BEHIND THE WINDSCREEN

I was sad to learn of the passing of Mary Duffy's brother on Friday the 18th. My condolences to her and her family. THANK YOU Connie Wright for getting a club website up and running. Also I want to thank Mary Duffy, and Ian O'Shea for their help in getting the beginning of the website going. [email protected] is the new website. (continued from page 1) Several club members went to Callaway Gardens from10-13 October for a GOF. Con-gratulations to Hank Rippert, First Place in his class and Charles and Perky Long, Second Place in their class. Both have beautiful MGTD's. Several members are making plans to Attend MG2014 in French Lick, IN during June 2014. It is the annual show for NAMGBR, but there is an "other British" class. Now is the time to think and make any plans to attend this great event. It looks like the round trip drive and show would take five days.

PRACTICE RUN FOR CAR SHOW Sunday afternoon Oct 20th was a great day for the Pre-Show drive of SBCC. The route Gary Higbee took us on was a road that most admitted we had never been on before. The views of Chattanooga were astonishing! Seven cars and 10 club members gathered at Track 29 for the drive. Teresa and I were running a bit late, causing a later than 3PM start time. Paul and Tricia had problems with their Jag, so they piled into Les Nations' Bentley. Once Teresa saw Tricia was going to ride in the Bentley she deserted the MGB for a chance to ride in luxury too. Those in attendance were Gary in a 3000, Charles in his Mini (Austin Seven). Robert Smith in his Midget, Scott and Vickie in their MGTF, Les Nations with his Bentley, Paul and Tricia in a Jag, and Teresa and myself in our MGB. The route took us on top of Missionary Ridge following Crest Drive. I did not count the curves, but Gary stated their were 90 curves in the eight mile run. The road is narrow and there are repairs being made, so the speed was slow. But, that was OK, because you needed a slow drive to enjoy the views and large homes (mansions) along the drive. This is the route that will be used on Saturday, November 2d. Due to the number of curves and stop signs, more club members will be needed to lead our guest along this gor-geous drive. If you do not know the road, please take a few minutes to drive it and vol-unteer to help on November 2nd. Crest Drive starts in Rossville at the Iowa Monument on McFarland Avenue. The planned turn around to head back to the Choo Choo is at the old Governor's Lounge just before the bridge on Bonny Oaks Drive. Having SBCC Fun in The Sun Mike

GOF AT CALLAWAY GARDENS

The GOF (Gathering of the Faithful) hosted by the SEMGT Register at Callaway Gardens was a great experience for the MG community. The weekend started on Thursday for those arriving early with a showing of "Casablanca" with hotdogs, coke and popcorn at 1940's prices. Whether you drove to Warm Springs and the Little White House, shopped in antique stores, played golf, or took in the beauty of Callaway Gardens, the four day show was an terrific experience. The weather was great and the participants were greater. SBCC was well represented by Hank in his TD, Charles and Perky in their TD, Scott and Vickie in their TF, Mike and Teresa in their B, and Gil and Marge in their BGT. Hank Rippert won First Place in the '50-51 TD Class, while Charles and Perky Long received Second Place with their TD in the '52-53 TD Class. The drive to Calloway Gardens was uneventful. The drive back on Sunday was another matter. At two of the three rest stops we had some minor difficulties that were quickly corrected adding about an hour to our drive time. That is just part of the MG experience.

SBCC MEMBERS AT CLASSIC MINI UNITED

WYTHEVILLE VA Classic Minis United invaded Wytheville Virginia Octo-ber 9th-13th, 2013. About 50-60 Minis came together from all over. We saw tags from Pennsylvania, Connecti-cut, Ohio, Wisconsin and Florida just to name a few. There was even one couple that flew in from Australia to join the fun. Thurs- days drive was 150 miles through Burkes Garden and some amazing twisting roads on the Back of the Dragon. We ended Thursday with a ice cream run in the dark up the mountain to BW Country Store in Big Walker Lookout. From there we started our nighttime scavenger hunt which didn't end till 10:15 that night. Day 2 was about 130 miles which included some more twisty roads as we climbed our way up White Oak Mountain. We had a group photo then a catered lunch. At that point we split into two groups. One group took some roads back to the campground and the rest of us did the 17 mile mountain bike ride on the Virginia Creeper Trail down White Oak Mountain into the town of Damascus. We ended the evening with a swap meet, catered dinner and bonfire. Day 3 was 200 miles. We took some twisty roads and dirt roads to get to the town of Mountain City for lunch. We then had police escort us through town to get us through the traffic lights in town. The officer led us to the 421 Snake. We traveled the 489 twisty curves of the Snake which led us to the Holston Dam for another group picture. Then back to the campground. It was an awesome trip that was just jam packed and non stop. I know Jim Watson is one of club members and we want to send a BIG thank you to him. Not only does he help the ones that break down and need mechanical help he follows us with a truck and trailer in case one breaks down and sacrifices driving his Mini just to make sure we're all safe and not left stranded. Thank you Jim, all of us can't thank you enough My dad and step mom (Wayne and Kim Eddingfield) were also present for the trip. This was their first trip with the Classic Minis United. We were very proud of dads driving as these are very, very aggressive driving trips once we get on the back mountain roads. He was right up front keeping up with the group better than some of the members who have been on these drives

before. We were glad they could join us for the fun. Charles and Perky were missed! CMU told us to send their love and hope

you guys can join us in April of 2016 for the Mini 56. ! Clay and Tiffany Brooks
