Incidents of police brutality and violence against African Americans have reached epidemic proportions. In the midst of police misconduct and

inappropriate behavior, many ask the question, ‘What is the Black community going to do?’

The African American community is in a precarious position, as the social climate postures for turbulent change. They predict that this shift will alter the fate of generations of Blacks and affect the socioeconomic positions of more than 43 million people. Social activists agree that a restless tension exists in many predominately Black communities throughout the nation.

Lauren Crump, advocate for justice and equality, in Baton Rouge, La. says, “it’s [unrest] an unbalance in the air and suggests a climatic season is fast approaching.”

Social media reports verify a surge of police violence on the black community in recent months. and more often than not, the targets are young black males. Reports of unarmed youth gunned down in their own neighborhoods and racial epithets used indiscriminately, by police are increasingly numerous and frequent.

Political strategists urge that community members look within the African American population for solutions to violence by police against African Americans. Religious and political leaders once played pivotal roles in Black communities, but serious questions arise, as a result of the growing concern of safety. John V. Garner, life—long resident of S. FCommunity Involvement- Participation in local state rally’s, protests, movements. Local council meetings, Only 2 members stated appreciation for local involvement. Distrust of local leaders and religious ofÞcials (‘preachers’) were frequent statements. Many felt the African Americans are self-absorbed and too selÞsh to look beyond their own household, however, they all agree people in the Black community are quick to come to the aid of others in need. All admitted they would remain in the vicinity, and offer some type of assistance (Þlm, call tv station/news, testify later) if they witnessed an incident involving police misconduct. None said they would try to interfere- most cited being charged with any number of infractions such as ‘accessory, to a crime,’ ‘resisting arrest’ or ‘police interference.’

Organization Commitment-Only one member of the study had membership

in a socially conscious Black group, however 1/2 the participants expressed interest in receiving additional information. The consistent complaint was distrust of white leadership and indecision about political participation @the end of Obama’s administration.

D-Comments Participants ranged in ages from 18-76yrs old, represented 26 states, half male and female with 1 preferring not to be identiÞed by gender. says, “The church was really important to our community at one time, but many of the preachers ‘sold out.’” Garner’s concerns are not unfounded.

Concerned citizens seek leadership and support but maintain that select pastors and city officials have failed to take immediate action or attempt resolutions of court cases, involving police brutality in the African American neighborhoods. Dr. James Tucker, long time political change agent in Colorado Springs claims, “These folk in so-called ‘positions of power,’ have genuine credibility issues, relative to their ethics, commitment and dedication to resolving the problem of police violence in this Military Police State.’”

The future for African Americans and their generations of children is entirely dependent on the willingness and susceptibility of the entire community to acquire, disseminate and practice the highest level of consciousness, imaginable. T.H. Foster, social activist in Denver, CO for more than three decades states, "Time constraints make it imperative for the community to join together on one accord, unify our priorities and achieve a common goal - Organize."

The need to organize as a community comes as impulse responses of self preservation and survival, In this, our final season, questions abound relative to how the Black community will respond to this epidemic of police violence against its members. What will be the predominate mode of action? The face of nihilism? The effect of hopelessness? The practice of apathy? Or could the change in climate reveal

a forecast of victory? Hope? Unity? Determination to portray deliberate acts of pervasive consciousness?

In an attempt to answer these questions and ‘Grade’ our community the African American Voice conducted a

random poll with the margin of error of 2. Participants received points based on their answers which reflected community involvement, current event awareness (local and national) and organization participation. Comprehensive results

reflected levels of consciousness.Although the analysis from the African

American Voice poll were disconcerting, the results are inconclusive. The keys to resolving issues of police brutality in the African American community are organization and incorporation of a unified conscious. Amefika Geuka. co-founder of the iamoneofthemillion Movement paraphrases Marcus Garvey and states:

[it is] necessary for black people to organize ourselves if we are serious about lifting ourselves out of the condition into which our oppressor has placed us.

Partial list of names of victims who suffered at the hands of corrupt policeman and/or an inept judicial system include Sandra Bland, Michael Brown, Rekia Boyd, Eric Garner, Walter Scott, Freddie Gray, Tamir Rice, Samuel DuBose, Ryan Brown, Vincent Browning and Sharod Kindell.

African American Community activists members, mothers, fathers, sisters brothers, cousins, friends ask the questions black conscious individuals “What are you going to do? When are you going to start?”

Scientists say that it takes 10,000 hours to become an expert on most things. That's 10 hours per day for about three years or eight hours a day for about three and a half years. If you work 8 hours a day and take off on the weekends, it'll take you about five years. So, if you want to be great at something, dedicate your life to it right now, grind consistently every day for the next 3 - 5 years, and settle in for a long and consistent process. One day, you'll wake up and realize that you've got something special. The key to all of this is consistency. Greatness does not occur overnight.

These leaders shared a vision that we continue to benefit from today. To be an Alpha Man means a continuation of adherence to a code of values, dedication, self-discipline and honor. It is because of determination, willingness to succeed, and efforts to venture forward to help build a stronger community by educating and mentoring our youth, that we have been so successful in our endeavors all these years.

1 Black Man Is Killed Every 28 Hours by Police or Vigilantes:

America Is Perpetually at War with Its Own People; from the

war on drugs to the war on terror, law enforcement’s battle against minorities serves as pacification.

By Adam Hudson Police officers, security guards, or self-appointed vigilantes extrajudicially killed at least 313 African Americans in 2012 according to a recent study (http://mxgm.org/wp-content/uploads/2013/04/Operation-Ghetto-Storm.pdf). This means a black person was killed by a security officer every 28 hours. The report notes that it’s possible that the real number could be much higher. The report, entitled “Operation Ghetto Storm”, was performed by the Malcolm X Grassroots Movement, an antiracist grassroots activist organization. The organization has chapters in Atlanta, Detroit, Fort Worth-Dallas, Jackson, New Orleans, New York City, Oakland, and Washington, D.C. It has a history of organizing campaigns against police brutality and state repression in black and brown communities. Their study’s sources included police and media reports along with other publicly available information. In 2012, the organization published a similar study (http://mxgm.org/wp-content/uploads/2012/07/07_24_Report_all_rev_protected.pdf) showing that a black person is killed by security forces every 36 hours. However, this study did not tell the whole story, as it only looked at shootings from January to June 2012.Adam Hudson AlterNet alternet.org

Have Police Declared War Against the African American Community?

Continued from page 1

According to family members, Sharod Kindell miraculously survived a murder attempt on his life by Denver police officer, Jeffrey DiManna* in January of 2015, and has become the victim of harassment, trivial court sentences and retaliatory actions by the Denver Sheriff Department. Prior to the incident in question, Sharod had been stopped, detained, harassed and unconstitutionally searched more than 40-50 times since in the past few years that he began driving.

According to Sharod’s account, on this particular evening, he was stopped by officers when he pulled in a driveway to answer his phone. He refused their demand to get out of the vehicle and asked for the reason that he was being detained, this time. When he saw that DiManna had drawn his gun, Sharod says that he raised his hands and begged, ‘Please don’t shoot.” The vehicle rolled in reverse when the policemen physically pulled him from the driver’s seat in an attempt to place him under arrest. During the scuffle, Sharod, who was unarmed, was shot in

his hand, arm. and groin. He claims that DiManna’s gun was aimed at his face and/or head and so he raised his arm to block the bullets.

Sharod emphatically insists, “They were trying to kill me.” Interestingly enough, the incident happened within a few blocks of Sharod’s residence on his trip to deliver baby formula to his brother-in-law. In the after-math of the shooting and his subsequent arrest, he has been released on bond several times, and then re-arrested, with the bond(s) revoked.

The African American Voice attempted on several occasions to speak with the District Attorney who most recently revoked the bond on Sharod, but met with no success. However, the African American Voice secured documentation relative to pre-trial jail confinement in Sharod’s case and rationale for bond revocations. The information was reviewed by several legal experts who reported that the offenses listed as reasons to hold Sharod in jail prior to his court hearing ranged in degrees of incredibility; ridiculous,’ ‘outrageous,’ ‘racially motivated’ and ‘pre-determined to fail,’ were the conclusions reported by our experts.

Protesters cite Sharod’s case as a rallying point for civil demonstration and refer to his shooting as an example of excessive violence by Denver police officers on members of the African American community. Protests and vigils, organized by his mother, Sherri Landrum, continue to gain momentum. Daily documentation of his plight

may be reviewed on social media (see freedom for Sharod Kindell). However, spokesperson’s for the release of Sharod Kindell, call for an impartial investigation, of the incident which led to his injuries, as well as impartial inquiries of criminal and misconduct against the Denver Sheriff Department and officers. Furthermore, Landrum maintains the protest needs more aggressive, dedicated, and consistent support from the African American Community.

Activists in Denver serve as a reflection of restless, exasperated citizens throughout the nation who demand accountability of police accused of violence against Blacks. Protest Movements, such as #blacklivesmatter and One Million Black Conscious Black Voters and Contributors/iamoneofthemillion have emerged and are gaining significant support. The platforms of both organizations contain a demand for the immediate establishment of Citizen Constituency Councils and or Civilian Review Boards to monitor police misconduct and intervene on behalf of Black victims of police violence. The proposed councils will consist of nonpartisan citizens with no police or government or judicial affiliations.

Social media catapulted the death of Trayvon Martin in 2012 and made the subject of Appropriated Violence against Black youth a household topic. The media is inundated with stories about police abuse against young, black men and the ensuing consequences of placement into the criminal justice

system. An unending cycle, with identical variables has permeated the communities across the country. More and more, Incidents like that of Sandra Bland in Texas, are filmed or videotaped to allow an unbiased audio visual accounts of the actual confrontations. Various websites promote use of emergency documentation for persons who suspect possible police misconduct.

A disturbing question resonates throughout the Black community: ‘Has War been declared by the Police Department Against the African American Community?’ An equally significant question follows: ‘What are Blacks going to do about it?’

Unfortunately, the case of Sharod Kindell is a familiar one for African Americans, who find themselves braced for news about police misconduct on a daily basis. Blacks across America, are aware of the growing abuse, which has been coined ‘Violence in a Military Police State.’

*According to public records, DPD officer Jeffrey DiManna has been involved in three vehicle related shootings within a 6 month timeline and one shooting in 2009. The Denver Office of District Attorney has cleared DiManna of any wrong-doing in the shooting incident of Sharod Kindell.

Want to lose weight? Monitor your heart rate? Count the number of your steps you walk? Your smartphone helps you do all of these things. With various apps and advances, smartphones remove the guesswork and create fitness tools to help you take your health seriously. Over half of adult smartphone owners use them for medical and health information, according to Who Is Hosting This, which shows that tracking fitness is more than a trend. Now are you curious about what features will put the zing in your next routine? Take a look to see how you can use your smartphone to take your fitness to the next level.

Run TrackersAre you unsure about the route you

are running and how many miles it covers? Are you running with a new destination? Take the guesswork of how many miles you run and at what pace with apps designed to track your route. The “Map My Run” app tracks your route with your phone’s internal GPS and calculates how much mileage you are logging. It also pulls up previous routes you’ve run and keeps a history

of your time and pace. It eliminates the need of driving your car in a new neighborhood to determine how far it is from point A to B. Other run tracking apps like RunKeeper, Strava and Nike+ offer similar features with additional bells and whistles.

Step CountersAccording to Mobi Health News

smartphone apps count steps more accurately than other pieces of wearable tech. This means you don’t need to buy additional gear when apps like Fitbit, Withings and Moves count your steps for you. Plus, you are more likely to forget a wearable device when you’re running out the door than your smartphone, making it much more convenient. These apps also enable you to log your steps, workouts and meals, so you can monitor your entire fitness plan and see where you need to make adjustments.

Health PlansA Nielsen study reports that health

and fitness apps are incredibly popular with consumers. For example, “My Fitness Pal” has 8.7 million users. This app tracks how much you exercise, how many calories you have eaten and what the nutritional value of your food is. Another great example is “Apple Health,” which is a built-in feature on the iPhone 6. This app monitors your steps, walking and running distance, and flights of stairs you climb each day. In addition, it displays your name, known allergies, emergency contact information and blood type even when your screen is locked. This new feature helps first responders know critical information in case of an accident or unexpected medical situation.

Meditation AppsMeditation is an important part of

overall wellness. With your smartphone,

Use Your Smartphone to Take Your Fitness to the Next Level

you can meditate anywhere you go, meaning you no longer need to go to a yoga studio or break your routine when traveling. Apps like “Calm” enable you to set a preset time to meditate with the sounds of the ocean, birds or white noise whenever and wherever you choose.

POINT OF VIEW

Correcting Vision in African AmericansOne Million Black Conscious Voters

&Contributors are tirelessly at work to secure commitments from one million African Americans and realize that an additional two-thirds of the community will offer excuses to justify their lack of participation. The urgency to unify and organize the Black community, unfortunately, escape the comprehension of the vast majority of nay-sayers. The inherent political system of American government is allegorized as rhetoric to convey hidden meanings through the symbolic interpretations of [inner] sight and vision.

Correcting our Vision is a rhetorical article which examines exaggerated societal disorders associated with Blacks who frequently offer excuses for

political involvement. Their defense of the status quo, and unyielding devotion to existing political parties are suspect. It has been theorized that this group may suffer from lack of consciousness interlaced with ignorance. The fictional disorders listed are based on actual vision impairments. The descriptions represent an attempt to categorize conspicuous members of the African American community who chose to exist in a perpetual state of dis-organization.

Vision/eyes are used interchangeably to epitomize the mindset of the community as the OMBCV&C Movement moves forward to garner support for its mission and enlist one million Blacks. Growth of the Iamoneofthemillion Movement may serve as an impetus for the conscious to Identify and understand the underlying fundamental problems associated with lack of inner-sight, among unconscious.

Select Vision Impairments• Currently, many members of the

African American community suffer from Political double vision and have simultaneous perceptions of various images/ideologies of two political parties that are displaced. It is result of propaganda via the unscrupulous use of media, and historical measures. In addition deliberate actions of mind control and brain washing techniques have weakened their abilities to discern certain truths. While the inner sight of African Americans, relative to justice and truth, is still functional many refuse to converge, as a single entity, to target the desired solution.

• Municipal Blurred vision from hyperopia (farsightedness) is when lawful concepts may be distinctly understood but the mind can’t

rationalize illegal activities. The suggestion that unlawful and lawful are socially constructed realities, advanced by changing social climates may cause disorientation and confusion. In cases of severe farsightedness, even legal decisions, against oppressed communities may appear blurred.

• Governmental Binocular double vision occurs when the constituents’ ideologies are consistently incongruent. The double vision will disappear if one or both traditional suppositions are dismantled.

• Political monocular double vision in the Black community continues when biased ideologies are unchallenged. Subsequently, this disorder surfaces comes from the refusal to investigate other points of view, which may contradict the status quo. When the bias belief system is disproven, double vision, relative to political conviction usually disappears.

• A large percentage of African Americans

suffer from Civic Physiological double vision. This societal disorder emerges when irrelevant issues are used as distractions from palpable concerns in the community-and appear dominate. Subtle techniques of propaganda are often created by mainstream political entities and reported by mass media as diversions. The illusion is undetected because the individual’s brain will compensate and justify the mendacities.

• Bureaucratic Nearsightedness, or municipal myopia, is the most common disorder and has become more prevalent in recent years among African Americans. With this condition, people have difficulty distinguishing truth from fiction in society and comprehending issues contrary to their own conditions. However, they may understand the problem clearly, when it is mirrors them or their situations. Symptoms of municipal myopia among African Americans may include squinting to comprehend the enormity of a social problem, which frequently leads to strain, and discomfort. When uncorrected or ignored, the symptoms may lead to fatigue which in turn conforms to attitudes of discernment, apathy or worse, nihilism.Though the exact cause for this increase

in Bureaucratic Nearsightedness among African Americans is unknown, many feel it is brought on by a genetic predisposition of racial inferiority. This social disorder is also linked to disbelief in concepts of racial discrimination and inequality by younger generations of African Americans.

Solutions to Impaired Vision in the Black community:

All forms of vision impairment suffered by members of the African American community may be corrected by the following social prescription:• willingness to read and comprehend

information presented by OMBCV&C @www.Iamoneofthemillion

• active participation in the Movement to unite and organize the Black community

• immediate registration and membership with Iamoneofthemillion

• partnership and/or sponsorship with OMBCV&C State Representatives

• assistance with Recruitment efforts• Conference attendance in Philadelphia

-Oct. 16-17, 2015• Leadership volunteerism• Financial contributions

The success of this Movement is dependent on the conscious African Americans. May the Ancestors be

pleased with our efforts.

BLACKONOMICS

Spectator Politics

Here is something to think about as we watch the political circus that is currently dominating the news: Black people are nowhere to be found in the real action, nowhere to be found in determining the candidates from which we will eventually choose to compete for the Presidency, and nowhere to be found in the debate questions or answers. We are merely watching from the balcony, as we had to do back in the 1950’s in segregated theaters and churches that relegated Black people to the rear of the building. We were also told to be quiet, especially in the churches, way back when.

All Black folks are doing right now is watching. Yeah we talk a lot, from our vantage point in the peanut gallery, but we have absolutely zero skin in the political game at this point, which means we lack self-determination in the political process. Yes, we have the individual choice to vote, but that’s about it, y’all, and even in that act, we will only be choosing between the decisions that others have made.

Have you ever wondered why two small states, Iowa and New Hampshire, have so much impact on the national election? Is it simply because they are the first two states to conduct caucuses and primaries every Presidential election year? Is it because they have such a large number of electoral votes? Even though some candidates who win those states do not always get their party’s nomination, these two states are held up as the political “trend-makers” and benchmarks for a candidate’s success. That’s why they all flock to those two little states long before the election really begins.

For all of you critical thinkers out there, try these stats on for size: Iowa is 91% White and 2% Black; it has 6 electoral votes. New Hampshire is 93% White and 1% Black, with 4 electoral

votes. There are 538 electoral votes among the states, 270 of which are needed to win the Presidency of the United States. I ask again, why are Iowa and New Hampshire so important in the scheme of things?

And I reemphasize that Black folks, comprising a grand total of 3% of the total population of these two small states, have absolutely no influence, not to mention power, in what is taking place right now in the political arena. We are relegated to being spectators if we care to watch this current show; it is a rerun, so many of us are not interested anyway.

By the time you read this article the séance for Ronald Reagan, known as the Republican debate, will have taken place at the Presidential Library in Simi Valley, California. You remember that famous city, right? It’s the place where the White cops who beat Rodney King within inches of his life were declared not guilty. Of the 500 there, I saw just five Black people in the seats at the CNN Debate. Another insult to Black voters, or another indication of political impotence?

We are just spectators, brothers and sisters, watching the Dems and Repubs race toward the finish line in November 2016. They will put on a great show for us though, as they invoke Rosa Parks’ name and cite the sanctity of the Black

vote. Each party will try to convince us that it can and will “take care of us” because God knows we can’t take care of ourselves. Then, in January 2017, Black people will settle in, once again relegated to their plantation of “choice” for four more years, without having gotten one ounce of quo for our quid.

My article, “Black Political Dilemma” (2014), posed the possibility of Ben Carson running against Hillary Clinton for President. Some folks responded by saying, “That will never happen:” “You’re crazy, Jim;” and “Carson will never be nominated.” Some folks even laughed at the question, “What will Black people do if that happens?” Well, you may want to stay tuned.

Black people have dug ourselves a deep political hole, and now we must figure out how to get out of it. It really doesn’t matter who wins the highest office in the land, Blacks will be in the same relative position as we have been under a Black President for the last seven years. In other words, we ain’t got nothin’ comin’. Only we can save us, not Hillary, Carson, Sanders, or Trump.

Because we have tried to play politics without having a strong economic base, we have become impotent and irrelevant. Reflect on the words of T. Thomas Fortune, Journalist and co-founder of the National Negro Business League: “No people ever became great and prosperous by devoting their infant energies to politics. We were literally born into political responsibility before we had mastered the economic conditions which underlie these duties.”James Clingman Writer on Economic Empowerment www.blackonomics.com

Join One Million Conscious Black Voters & Contributors

A ‘Black Paper’ by Baba Amefika D. Geuka

I was prompted to write this ‘Black Paper’ in response to a question from my elder daughter Malaika, who recently became involved with our “One Million Conscious Black Voters and Contributors” (OMCBV&C) campaign. Because her mother and I separated and divorced when she was only eleven years old, Malaika grew to adulthood without being exposed to the Black Nationalist and Pan-Africanist ideology which has been the driving force in her father’s life since the age of fifteen or so. Like the vast majority of people of African descent in America, my daughter is not attuned to whatever it is that causes people with beliefs like mine to feel the way we do about matters related to our African Race. Realizing that like Malaika, most black people coming into contact with the term “conscious black” could find it confusing, and they might not understand who we are referring to when we use it, it is indeed appropriate that I make an effort to shed light on this matter. First, a bit of background.

Use of the term “conscious blacks” began to emerge in the 1980s in the aftermath of the devastation caused by the government’s use of the “Cointelpro” program during the 1970s to destroy the effectiveness of the black liberation movement. That movement was led by people who referred to themselves as “Black Nationalists” and “Pan-Africanists.” Key to the effectiveness of the Cointelpro scheme was its almost total destruction of any semblance of

‘trust’ among Nationalists. Government agencies adroitly planted the impression that every other Nationalist was an informant for the government, and led wives and husbands of Nationalist activists to believe that their spouses were only pretending to advocate for the uplift and advancement of black people, and were in fact using the ‘movement’ as a cover for assorted sexual affairs with members of the opposite sex among their supposed ‘comrades.’ Having thus been ‘routed,’ Nationalists came to be viewed as incompetents capable only of spouting empty rhetoric. Many started to distance themselves from use of or identification with the term. ‘Race-conscious’ came into use as an alternative frame of reference. Now-a-days, one seldom hears the term Black Nationalist used, even by many who consider themselves to still hold to beliefs that were once associated with Nationalists exclusively. “Conscious Black” is devoid of any such ‘taint,’ but unlike ‘Nationalist,’ few people have a clear understanding of what it actually means, and quite likely, there are as many different interpretations of its meaning as there are people who purport to adhere to it.

My personal preference as a formal definition of Black Nationalism is that given to us by Dr. Maulana Karenga in his seminal work: “Kawaida Theory: An Introductory Outline,” to wit: “Kawaida defines nationalism as the concept and conviction that we are a distinct people with a distinct historical personality and that, therefore, we should unite in order to gain the structural capacity to define, defend, and develop our

interests as a people. He goes on to add that “...nationalism is social analysis and strategy for social change.” For me then, this definition also applies to “black consciousness” as is used in today’s parlance. Therefore, a conscious black person knowingly and deliberately prioritizes the enlightened group self-interest of black people above and beyond all else - without apology! A conscious black voter would apply this mindset to the arena of partisan electoral politics.

Black Nationalists were those ideologues among their Race who genuinely loved black people, we were the only ones who could claim that distinction. A person today who claims to be a ‘conscious black’ ought to love his/her people, even though that love is more likely than not, to be unrequited these days. That will be the subject of another black paper.

The One Million Conscious Black Voters and Contributors then, refers to black individuals who are fully aware that our Race needs the best-and-brightest we produce to place the interests of our people collectively in “first-position.” In doing so we put into practice what all other racial and ethnic groups do routinely and automatically. I will use the people known as “Jews” to illustrate this latter point. The people known as Jews today are not the people referred to in the Christian Bible or the source material from which that Bible was constructed. They are an eastern European people who converted to Judaism to take advantage of the concept of a “Chosen People” as referenced in the “Old Testament.” That too will be

the subject of another black paper. The principal institutions used by

those converts to Judaism were 1) the FAMILY; and 2) the SYNOGOGUE (church). From birth the converts’ children were taught what their parents and religious leaders wanted them to believe was who they were, from whence they came, and their purpose for being on Earth. Seldom do ‘Jewish” children attend non-Jewish schools during their “formative” years (from birth to early ‘teens’). This period corresponds to today’s formal schooling from pre-school through middle-school, or the completion of eighth-grade. At that point modern-day Jewish children are subjected to a “rights-of-passage” known as “Bar-Mitzvah” for boys, and “Bat-Mitzvah” for girls. They are then ‘passed’ from adolescence into adulthood, fully indoctrinated with the belief that they are to uplift and advance the best interest of their group. Jewish children are thus immunized against the “vagaries-and-vicissitudes” of the ‘outside-world’ as they enter adulthood. In sharp contrast to those practices by Jews, neither the black family or ‘black church’ of today emphasizes or teaches racial history, heritage, and culture of and for people of African descent. The importance of that contrast is readily evident in the comparative relative difference in the status and position of Jews in society and the world, as opposed to that of black people. Jews practically control the world, while blacks are controlled by nearly everybody and everything in the world!

By calling the best and brightest among us to join forces and pool resources to build the capacity of our Race to advance and protect its collective interests, the One Million Conscious Black Voters and Contributors campaign seeks to have Black people do what other groups have done and do every day: Lift ourselves out of our lowly condition by our own collective efforts! A ‘conscious black voter’ would do this by voting as part of a solid block of black voters determined to influence public policy decisions so that they favor rather than hurt Black people, and open pathways to a better future for our children.

Correspondingly, a ‘conscious black contributor’ would readily pool his/her financial and other resources and resourcefulness, to provide the wherewithal to underwrite the costs of projects and programs designed and intended to serve the needs and interests of our people.

WHAT IS A “CONSCIOUS” BLACK VOTER?

EDUCATION

By Your Black Education

In order to achieve success in the classroom with African American and Latino students, the educator must understand the population that he/she teaches, as well as consistently analyze if his/her teaching practices are effective. If you do not understand the population of students you teach, your success in the classroom can be greatly minimized.

With all the recent debates on ways to reach the African American and Latino student population, here is a list of twelve tips all educators of African American and Latino children should know. Some of the tips can apply to all students.

Check StereotypesCheck any stereotypes you might

have at the door. Limiting views can result in limiting expectations of the African American and Latino student. Limiting expectations can result in limited performance. If you believe in the stereotype of the loud mouth Latina, or the bad boy thug, you’re doomed. Do not make false assumptions about your student population, especially if they are contrived from negative stereotypes. If you view the urban school environments as a “mad” house then guess how you directly or indirectly view your students?

Connect with ParentsEstablish a positive connection with

parents from the first day of class. A phone call to report good news is as equally vital to the success of your student as informing parents when children are struggling.

Cultural ImagesDue to the overexposure to white

identities in media, African American and Latino students need to see images of themselves where they are not portrayed as inferior or subordinate to white culture. Hang positive images in your classroom that reinforce the beauty of African American and Latino culture. No images that consists solely of music and sports icons. Explore images from the Harlem Renaissance, or photos of great African American and Latino folks. If you have students from a variety of backgrounds in your class, select images that speak to each student, not merely images that reinforce white privilege.

IdentityLearn the name of each student. When

you’ve memorized the name of each student, you are saying to your student, “I am interested in who you are.”

MotivationNegative putdowns create uncooperative

shutdowns. Be a motivator. Tell your African American and Latino students what they can do, not merely what they can’t do. Work on areas of improvement without using antagonistic language. Offer sincere praise and positive faith. Having students state positive affirmations as a class creates a team-winning mentality and establishes community. Expressing positive faith

in your African American and Latino student can make him/her improve in leaps and bounds academically.

EnthusiasmShow your enthusiasm towards the

content you teach. The love for your area of expertise should transmit to each and every student. National education surveys conducted with African American and Latino students suggest enthusiastic educators have far greater success in the classroom. Could you fathom listening to one that does not particularly show interest in what they teach? A bore!

After School ProgramsExpose students to your knowledge

of after school programs that might be offered in your school or district. Not only does the student get to acquire a new skill, in areas riddled with high incidents of crime, research suggests students involved in extracurricular activities are less prone to fall prey to mischievous activity.

Value of Education and Real LifeExpress the value of education.

Explain the varying levels of educational possibilities one can attain. Do not assume your students know how many high school credits they need to graduate. Do not assume your students knows what a bachelors, masters or doctorate program consists of. Sharing your personal journey with African American and Latino children helps them to see you as a human, and not just some robot with formatted lesson plans. Share how education connects to real life. Be bold; invite students to discover the works of those great thinkers in your academic area.

ForgiveIt’s important for the African American

and Latino student to know that after any challenges or misunderstanding, you do not harbor any animosity or use grades as a weapon to “get even.” Remember you are in the process of educating children, not mini adults.

Model Appropriate Behavior and Dress for Success

You are a role model first and foremost. Show through your actions what’s considered appropriate conduct. Dress for success each day you enter the classroom. Would you trust one to educate you with sloppy or unprofessional attire? Students also need to see how they will one day be required to dress as professional adults.

SuspensionBlack and Latino students need

viable options other than suspension. Suspended students most likely engage in watching television or playing video games while home on suspension. Most students view suspension as a way to take a break from school. Neither contribute to the academic growth of any child.

Classroom FormatIf your African American and Latino

student can’t sit still for long periods of time or listen to lecture format, do not send a request for special education paperwork. African American and

Latino students, at times, might struggle with lecture format in grades

6-11. Allow students to get up and stretch in between instruction, or rely on small group instruction. Also, remember, every student does not learn

instruction in the same manner, you must vary instructional methods.

CIVIL RIGHTS VIOLATORS

Rico MunnSuperintendent

Aurora Public Schools

What is the Civil Rights Act of 1964?The Civil Rights Act of 1964 was designed to end racial segregation and outlawed most forms of discrimination in the workplace, schools, public facilities and separate requirements based on racialized distinctions, such as discriminatory voter registration requirements. The Civil Rights Act fails to protect the civil rights of African Americans.Title VI - Prohibits discrimination by federal agencies when providing services or administration. Violating agencies ignore civil rights laws and the U.S. government supports civil rights violators.Title VII - Was designed to ban discrimination by employers on the basis of race, religion, color, sex or national origin. It also added for protections for individuals associated with other races, such as an interracial marriage.

INCLUSIVE CAPITALISM

By Cynthia McKinney

According to its website, Inclusive Capitalism, every corporation must be a citizen of the society in which it operates. This ensures long-term growth and company health. They even write that “inclusive capitalists” will not attempt to free-ride on services that others have paid for.

Inclusive Capitalism “is a global effort to restore capitalism as an engine of broadly shared prosperity.” It claims to be an effort to improve environmental, social, and governance indicators. The founders write that there are many different forms of capital (environmental, social, and governance) that corporations should take into consideration as they conduct their business.

The Coalition for Inclusive Capitalism was founded in 2014 by Lady Lynn Forester de Rothschild. Beside her in this noble task are, according to the Coalition’s website, a Working Group comprised of such luminaries of social justice as Sir Evelyn de Rothschild of E.L. Rothschild, Dominic Barton from McKinsey and Company, Ann Cairns of MasterCard, Sir Sherard Cowper-Coles of HSBC, Paul Polman of Unilever, along with CEOs of various pension plans and philanthropic foundations, like the eponymous Ford and Rockefeller foundations.

The Working Group meets its requisite allotment of at least one African and/or Asian, but not more than two of each. The four board members of this august group are the two Rothschilds, a tax lawyer, and the leader of a networking investment club.

I find this all so very interesting. As I write this, I think about the slave laborers in the eastern Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) camps who are mining coltan so Microsoft and others can have plenty of it for their Xboxes, Play Stations, iPhones, and laptops and desk computers. Will the families of the seven million people who have been murdered in this blood trade now be acknowledged and made whole in just this one Wild, Wild West capital of capitalism? Is the future rip-off of DRC not going to happen because capitalism’s scions are now asking for “Inclusive Capitalism?” To find out more about capitalism’s current role in DRC, please read anything written by Keith Harmon Snow in all its horrid details.

What role is HSBC, the bank that helped its uber-wealthy clients avoid paying their fair share of taxes, going to play in improving the lives of those ruined by the same neoliberal capitalism championed by The Economist? How many banks will recompense their clients who lost their homes in the 2008 mortgage casino and shake down? I don’t think too many. So much for not being free-riders or for being good citizens of the place in which a business operates.

So, understanding the ills of capitalism - from spawning the Trans-Atlantic slave trade and genocide of indigenous peoples, to today’s virulent

Photo, Gary Cameron / Reuters

racism that some scholars are trying to put back into the bottle by declaring that there is no such thing as race - one has to wonder: “What is going on in the world when “Inclusive Capitalism” is being championed by the same capitalist outposts that brought us “Exclusive Capitalism?”

Well, it couldn’t be fear of prosecution. It is true that US prosecution of white collar crime is at a twenty-year low, setting the robber barons loose on a defenseless public. There remains at least one reason that comes to my mind as explanation for Lady Rothschild’s interest.

One possible explanation that makes the notion of “Inclusive Capitalism” so au courant could be that a critical mass of people are now “on to” the robber barons and the governments purchased by them; these “democratic” governments specialize in representing the robber barons and not the people who “elect” them.

Could it be that there are finally enough among the masses of people who are acutely aware and so refuse to fall for the old divide and conquer trick?

Could it be that the there has reached a critical mass of people who are unwilling to be manipulated or remain open to a cultural invasion that consigns them to second-class and impoverished world citizenship? And that denies them their right of self-determination?

Could it finally be that the historical cultural interlopers are concerned that they might be out-muscled by the poor and middle class who vastly out-number them, say 99 to 1?

Could it be that it is now time for those who benefit the most from a status quo global economic organization to trick a new generation into supporting its own disempowerment? Could it be that more and more people now recognize that capitalism, with its side dishes of genocide, slavery, and virulent racism, is not the answer for human and ecological advancement? After all, capitalism was

invented by certain Europeans and then imposed on the rest of humanity.

One clue to all of this could come from author Thomas Piketty who has provided incredible ammunition for those of us who say that capitalism is inherently ex-clusive. In his 2014 tome, Capital in the Twenty-First Century, Piketty, a French economist, investigated wealth inequality over a very long period: 250 years. What he found is what we know from our own personal experiences-over time, in capitalism and today’s extreme version known as neoliberalism-income inequality gets worse as economies expand. Piketty predicts that wealth inequality will worsen in the future. His prescription? A global progressive tax on wealth. The Economist, owned by the Rothschild empire, opined that while Piketty might be onto something academically, his ideas need not infect public policy. In May 2014, The Economist headlined, “A Great Piece of Scholarship, but a Poor Guide to Policy.”

A second clue to all of this could be the recent landslide victory of Jeremy Corbyn to leader of the UK Labour Party. I have been to many pro-peace, anti-war events and Jeremy Corbyn has

been in attendance at EVERY one. He is a stalwart anti-Zionist peacenik and the thought of Corbyn as UK Prime Minister probably makes the robber barons very uneasy. He survived terrible caricaturizing and demonization. I’m hoping that we will be able to pull off a similar upset here in the US and elect a President that is truly for all of the people.

By the way, the Inclusive Capitalism Conference of 2014, whose theme was “Renewing Trust,” ended in a squabble among “inclusives” that resulted in Lady Rothschild filing a lawsuit against the Henry Jackson Society for breach of trust.

The 2015 Conference recently ended with a whimper. So much for “Inclusive Capitalism.” They are having these meetings because they sense their weakness. They are the ones who introduced disaster capitalism to the world; they know that a revolution in the way the masses think and behave could topple them. Now is the time for us to demand systemic change - that is, deep, transformational, second-order change.Cynthia McKinney RT www.rt.com

Don’t be Fooled by “Inclusive Capitalism” It’s Still a Disaster!

REPARATIONS MOVEMENT

communities across the country. To date, 10 national African

American organizations (see list at the end of this article) representing thousands of members, have endorsed the NAARC request for Obama to establish a commission on reparatory justice that will address white supremacy “in all of its individual, institutional and structural manifestations.”

The letter describes white supremacy and racism as “a deadly disease” that remains deeply embedded in the American psyche and in the social, economic and political fabric of US society.

“Reparations are a form of historical correction and justice not only for the descendants of those enslaved, but for the enslavers as well,” said Prof. Dr. Ray Winbush, a reparations scholar based at Morgan State University in Baltimore and a member of the NAARC.

The NAARC has recommended that the commission be named in honor of esteemed historian and scholar Dr. John Hope Franklin who had chaired President Bill Clinton’s Commission on Race some 22 years ago. “In honor of Dr. Franklin’s 100th birthday, we call upon you to have the vision to create a commission on reparatory justice in his name. This is only fitting as it also offers an opportunity to complete the unfinished work of President Clinton’s Commission on Race”, states the letter.

Among his many distinctions, Franklin was President of Phi Beta

Kappa and the first African-American president of Atlanta University. Before he died in 2009, he wrote: “Most living Americans do have a connection with slavery. They have inherited the preferential advantage, if they are white, or the loathsome disadvantage, if they are black and those positions are virtually as alive today as they were in the 19th Century.”

Dr. Ron Daniels, convener of the NAARC and President of the Institute of the Black World 21st Century (IBW), said that from Ferguson to Baltimore to Charleston, this most recent period has

revealed that white supremacy is alive and well in the United States. “Despite these realities, polls and studies indicate that a substantial number of white Americans fail to see or are in denial about the stubborn persistence of racism and its effects on Black people.”

Kamm Howard, a leader of the National Coalition of Blacks for Reparations in America (NCOBRA) and a member of the NAARC sees the push for the executive order as a means to re-frame the national discussion of reparatory justice around the international standards of full repair.

“This includes halting many discriminatory practices, efforts aimed at restoring and making whole our peoplehood, a variety of compensatory polices, dignity enhancing projects, programs and policies as well as various modalities that initiate healing from post-traumatic slavery syndrome and its many manifestations,” said Howard.

NCOBRA recently held a successful national convention in Milwaukee that involved a high percentage of young racial and social justice activists.

The national organizations endorsing the NAARC letter are:

Association of Black Psychologists Black Psychiatrists of America National Association of Black Social Workers International Black Women’s Congress Samuel DeWitt Proctor Conference National Black United Front All Healers Mental Health Network Community Healing Network A Black Educators Network National Association of Blacks in Criminal Justice.

“Brazil: DNA Africa” is a series of five hour-long documentaries that traces the African roots of Afro-Brazilians, as well as investigate the important contributions Africans made in the construction of Brazil as we know it today.

From DNA tests done on 150 African descendants of five Brazilian states with the most African descendants (Bahia, Maranhao, Minas Gerais, Pernambuco, and Rio de Janeiro), the project aims to help identify the ethnic origins of these Brazilians.

The series will show how the arrival of millions of Africans over the course of centuries had a strong influence on the arts, religion, cuisine and the formation of Brazilian people.

“Above all, slaves lost their names and their identity. With these DNA tests, they can re-establish the connection,” says Carlos Alberto Jr, the writer and director of “Brazil: DNA Africa.”

Slavery was abolished 127 years ago in Brazil, an institution that gave birth to a black and mixed population that today accounts for more than half of the country’s population. “Brazil: DNA Africa” has opened the door to tracing each identity trail back to its roots.

The tests were done by a company called African Ancestry, which is available to just about anyone (with a database of more than 30,000 indigenous Africans, the company says it can trace many original ethnic groups).

The Black Women of Brazil blog published a more in-depth piece on this; here’s an excerpt: “For decades, Brazil has developed its reputation as one of

the most racially diverse countries in the world. After centuries of mixing between descendants of Africans, Europeans and Native Brazilians, the phenotypes of many Brazilians are often unique to Latin America’s largest nation. And although Latin America in general is associated with all sorts of racial mixtures, Brazil, while far from being the only nation that imported Africans to work in situations of enforced labor, is unique in the sheer numbers of Africans that arrived on its shores. Brazil received about 9 times more Africans than its northern neighbor, the United States. The cultural and racial mixture of the original three racial groups of Brazil was of such a widespread and intense nature that famed anthropologist Gilberto Freyre wrote that: ‘Every Brazilian, even the light-skinned fair one, carries about with him on his soul, when not on soul and body alike…the shadow, or at least the birthmark of the native or the black.’ For many Brazilians, this mixture has often lead to a confusion in terms of racial identity. When combined with centuries of deeply-ingrained negative connotations associated with blacks and Indians and it is understandable as to why others often avoid claiming identities as African descendants altogether. In the past few decades, Afro-Brazilian activists have made great strides in helping Brazilians of visible African descent proudly assume identities as either negros (blacks), or afrodescendentes.”

The cross-continental documentary effort is executive produced by Monica Monteiro.

Much of the press on this that I found isn’t in English, making it difficult to gather further information (Google’s translate application isn’t exactly the

best); the Black Women in Brazil blog really is the only English piece I found. But I’ve sent a message to the filmmakers (via the project’s Facebook page), asking for more information about the documentary series - especially whether it’ll travel (as I expect it will). So when I know more, so will you.

In the meantime, watch a preview at the link below, which thankfully does come with English subtitles:

The latest result of the population and economical growth in Ethiopia’s capital, Addis Ababa, is an urban metro. The addition comes as a result of the high-density population and the chaotic conditions of travel throughout the city. A portion of the metro’s route was opened on September 21, allowing for safer and less hectic traveling conditions.

Though some African countries have a commuter rail service, this is the first light rail system to be built. It currently runs for 11 miles throughout Addis Ababa—from outlying industrial sites to the center of the buzzing city. Another route, ranging 11 miles east to west, is still in the process of construction.

As soon as the two main lines becomes fully operational, it will begin transporting at least 60,000 passengers within one hour. The cost of travel are 6 Ethiopian burr (.27 cents) per ride.

Addis Ababa is a city with a growing economic rate of 10% yearly and maintains its population and welfare because of useful additions such as the metro line. Interestingly enough, China is very involved in the process of growth and economical support of this African city.

In fact, 85% of the loan for the $475-million-dollar metro project came from a Chinese loan source. Much of the line was built within a 3-year range and imported workers did the work.

The line is expected to fall under the management of Shenzhen Metro Group and China Railway Engineering Corporation for the next five years. Another major railway project that is also underway is being funded by a Chinese source.

The next railway will link Addis Ababa with neighboring Ethiopian city, Djibouti. Plans will begin next year and other lines in Kenya and Nigeria are also in the works.

Metro lines are not as highly favored in other African cities, like Nairobi (Kenya), which is investing more in regular roads for travel. Other cities, like Lagos, the largest city in Nigeria, struggle to manage a large project and the funds that go along with it. They have been funded by World Bank but have been unable to get their system in place now for several years.

TRIBUTE TO JOHNNY LEE TUCKER

Creator of a Legacy of Warriors and The Tucker Empire: An Epic Tale of African American Survival - (February 7, 1928 - September 7, 2015)

By Dr. Sharon HonoreToday we pay homage to Johnny L. Tucker Sr., second child, eldest son born to the union of Dovie and Gertrude Tucker; brother to Willie May, Pearline, Aline, Adell, Ernestine (Judy), James (Jake), William, Robert Lee, Rebecca and father of Ernestine, Johnny Jr., Carla, Sharon, Charles (Chuck) Lennox, Tillie (Mona) Booth, James (Red), Harold, Donald, and Ralph.

We acknowledge certain extraordinary truths about the legacy of Johnny L. Tucker. As we prepare for his burial, unmitigated factors emerge. He created an astounding legacy of warriors, which in turn created a familial empire and laid the unprecedented foundation for an epic tale of African American survival. There is overwhelming evidence that Johnny L. Tucker possessed an extraordinary spirit whichisexemplifiedinthelegacyheleavesbehind.Thestrengthofa man and the legacy he leaves behind may be most powerful when demonstrated through the characters of his children, his children’s children, and his children’s children’s children. The offspring of Johnny L. Tucker are strong, successful individuals. James contributes their success to being part of a strong family.

Along the journey to becoming fathers, Johnny’s Kids acquired character traits of spiritual enlightenment, monogamous beliefs, and marital stability. The dominant presence of these character traits confirmstheconceptoftheexistenceofalegacyofwarriorsandsupports the ideology that Johnny’s Kids have produced an African American Empire. For example, all the children possess strong work ethics, athletic abilities which they individually utilized as a means to an end, political ambition (some more overt than the others), military ties, and a commitment to family. His offspring personify a family Empire led by strong, competent fathers, interlaced with conscious objectives and positive outcomes.

Johnny worked for many years at Wagner Electric in St. Louis, providing for his family. After retiring, he moved to Las Vegas where he resided until he became ill. His son, James, traveled to Las Vegas after receiving a call from the hospital in 2012. The decision was made to take Johnny back to St. Louis where his daughter, Ernestine could care for him. Ernestine took on the responsibility of becoming his primary caregiver and looked after him for two and one half years. She has fond memories of life with Johnny L., her brother, Johnny Jr., sister, Carla and mother, Carol.
