S.T.A.M.P (SCIENCE, TECHNOLOGY, ARTS, MATHEMATICS & PREPARATORY)

The  first  S.T.A.M.P.  Program  Parent  night  was  held  on  September  29,  2015.    Families  spent  the  evening  learning  about  the  program  highlights  available  to  their  children  this  year.    They  also  had  the  opportunity  to  visit  the  classrooms,  where  the  teachers  discussed  exciting  learning  opportunities  and  the  focus  for  this  year.  Students  shared  their  classroom  projects  with  their  families.    Students  were  thrilled  to  have  their  parents  visit  the  classrooms.

S.T.A.M.P.  students  are  off  to  a  great  start  this  year.    On  September  18,    they  visited  the  BB&T  Center  to  grow  their  appreciation  of  the  arts  while  viewing  Disney  on  Ice  -‐  Treasures  show.    The  show  promoted  a  positive  message  that  left  students  understanding  the  importance  of  friendship.    Students  were  amused  by  these  breathtaking  performances  on  ice.

Photography ClubStudents  that  were  accepted  into  the  2015-‐2106  Photography  Club  were  notified  on  October  2,  2015.    The  next  meeting  will  be  held  on  October  5,  2015.    The  meeting  will  take  place  in  the  Art  Room  from  2:15-‐2:55  p.m.      Students  must  be  picked  up  by  3:00  p.m.      meeting.

Math TeamVillage  Elementary  participates  in  the  Florida  Math  League  Contest  for  Broward  County  students.    This  year  we  will  again  sponsor  a  fourth  and  fifth  grade  team.    Each  team  will  be  composed  of  six  members,  4  regular  and  2  alternate  members.    The  Thirty  Sixth  Annual  Elementary  Mathematics  Competition  will  be  held  in  March,  2016.  If  your  child  is  interested  in  joining  the  Math  Team,  please  contact  Ms.  McDowell  or  Mrs.  Brown  for  further  information.    The  club  will  begin  recruiting  in  October.

THE PANTHER PRESS OCTOBER 2015

Zero the HeroZero  the  Hero  was  a  special  delivery  to  all  first  grade  classes  on  Friday,  September  4.    His  mission  is  to  help  the  students  learn  to  count  to  100.    Students  listened  to  his  story,  “A  Place  for  Zero”  and  enjoyed  a  zero-‐shaped  treat.    He  will  be  hiding  in  the  classrooms  every  time  the  number  of  schools  days  has  a  zero  in  the  ones  place.      Find  him  and  wear  his  cape!

We  are  back  to  creating  mischief  with  math.    Beach  Ball  Party,  Funny  Money,  and  Ramp  It  Up  are    some  of  the  activities  that  students  in  Year  2  will  complete.    There  will  be  two  Year  1  Crazy  8‘s  clubs—grade  2  and  grade  3.    Invitations  to  participate  were  recently  distributed.    Call  Mrs.  Brown  at  754-‐322-‐8750  if  you  have  any  questions  about  the  program.

School Uniform PolicyVillage  Elementary  School  continues  to  be  a  mandatory  uniform  school.  Uniforms  have  had  a  positive  impact  on  issues  such  as  peer  pressure,  classroom  discipline,  student  safety  and  bullying.    Uniform  colors  will  remain  red,  white  and  black  with  black  or  khaki  pants,  shorts,  skirts  or  skorts.    It  is  mandatory  that  students  wear  polo  shirts  with  our  school’s  logo.    Please  see  front  office  staff  for  logo  information.    Students  must  wear  uniforms  on  Mondays,  Tuesdays,  Wednesdays  and  Thursdays,  but  on  Fridays,  students  can  wear  their  Village  Panther  T-‐Shirts  or  their  favorite  outfit,  as  long  as  the  District  Dress  Code  is  being  followed  (all  shirts  must  have  sleeves  and  no  skin  can  be  exposed;  no  “short-‐shorts,”  mini  skirts  or  midriffs).    Also  they  can  dress  according  to  the  designated  school  spirit  day.    For  example,  one  Friday  was  “Pink  Day,”  students  wore  pink  for  Breast  Cancer  Awareness  Month.  Students  are  required  to  wear  their  red  uniform  shirts  or  red  Panther  Shirts  for  field  trips.    At  all  times,  students  must  wear  closed-‐toed  shoes  with  rubber  bottoms  and  covered  heels—no  sandals  or  flip-‐flops.    Remember  our  school  uniform  colors  are  red,  white,  black  and  khaki.    Only  these  colors  will  be  considered  in  accordance  with  the  uniform  policy.NOTE:  Students  in  the  S.T.A.M.P.  Program  will  follow  their  uniform  schedule.
