www.NextDoor.com As a way of passing information to the community about upcoming events, fund raising activities, training, committee meetings and emergencies, a “Bulletin Board” was established on WWW.NEXTDOOR.COM. We are pleased to announce that as of press time, there are 89 members who have signed up! Members are using this site to report odd behavior in the neighborhood, posting items for sale, getting recommendations for pet sitters, and more!

It is completely free and the app is available for download on your IPHONE or ANDROID Device. NEXTDOOR is to be used as a “Bulletin Board” only. It is not a chatroom. GV Equestrian Alliance News

The Equestrian Alliance will be continuing with group riding lessons with Hope Adams several times each month, weather and schedules permitting. The cost of each lesson is split between the participants. It’s a great deal! Lesson topics will vary based on the needs and requests of the riders. All GV members are invited to come!

Occasionally we will be offering “mini clinics” on various topics in addition to the one hour lessons, to provide for more time to learn and practice. For a three hour clinic, the cost will be $45.

The first mini clinic will be held on October 15 from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. The topic of our first clinic will be “Horsemanship From The Ground Up”. Hope will start with a roundpenning demo with several different horses, followed by groundwork lessons in the arena. We will work on lunging and groundwork exercises including backing, moving the fore and hindquarters, sending the horses through and over obstacles, etc. Due to space and safety considerations in the arena, there will be a limit of 8 participants for the groundwork clinic. First come, first served so please RSVP right away if you are interested in this groundwork clinic! Please bring a rope halter and a 14’ lead rope if you have one. Spectators are welcome!

Please contact Melanie to RSVP or for further information: [email protected] or call 714-349-9800.

Update from Anza Electric Submitted by Steve Lauzier

The California Public Utilities Commission has received the application from Anza Electric Cooperative to approve the Phase 2 portion of the AEC's planned Hi-Speed Internet services connection as part of its ConnectAnza subsidiary. I have continued to push for support letters from area residents and companies - recently receiving support from Lake Hemet's Recreation vendor - California Parks - and University of California Riverside's Deep Canyon Research Center.

AEC's consultants believe the outlook is good for approval from CPUC, which if received will result in funding for and commencement of an environmental investigation and report on the proposed additional wiring to be added to the existing poles now providing electrical services. We shall be checking back and reporting monthly on the status of CPUC's review process.

Simmer Pot Recipes to Make Your Home Smell Like Fall The season for scented candles has begun! However, many scented candles are made of petroleum-based paraffin with dubious artificial scents. A better and safer alternative is to simmer a pot of spices on your stove. Ingredients like cinnamon sticks, apple peels, orange rinds, cloves, apple juice, vanilla, anise, and nutmeg will make your home smell like you have been baking all day! Get into the habit of saving, (rather than composting) your orange peels, lemon and lime peels, and apple and pear skins. Instructions: Very simply, fill a small saucepan with water and bring to a boil. Add the ingredients from your favorite recipe, continue to boil for a few minutes, then turn the heat down to simmer. Add water as needed, about every half hour or so. Any one of these recipes will make your home smell inviting!

Introducing Hope Adams Many of us have had the pleasure of working with Hope Adams in our continuing journey to improve our horsemanship and our horses’ training. Hope has done several clinics here in the Garner Valley arena on a variety of topics. Just recently, Hope worked with 12 members of the Garner Valley Equestrian Alliance, coaching them for their first ever patriotic drill team presentation at this year’s Western Day – a fun and challenging experience for all.

Hope has over 40 years of experience and currently specializes in working with many gaited horses -- Tennessee Walking horses, Rocky Mountain gaited horses, Missouri Fox Trotters, Spotted Saddle Horses, Peruvian Pasos, Paso Finos, and all other gaited breeds. Those of us with gaited horses have learned that achieving and maintaining proper gait is a process that requires dedication, training and practice. No matter the age of you OR your horse, Hope can help!

As a young girl, Hope found her passion for horses and has spent the rest of her life with them. She learned the discipline of the show ring early, starting by showing Quarter Horses as a child and winning some of the top shows. She then moved on to showing Western Pleasure, Trail, and In Hand, winning several awards, buckles and saddles.

Hope later discovered the rewards and challenges of long distance riding competition in AERC and NATRC events, eventually coordinating many events herself. Hope has ridden several sections of the Tevis Trail,

which is ranked as one of the toughest trails in the world in Endurance competition. During this time, she was introduced to gaited horses which made a big impression on her, thus beginning her passion for all things gaited. Hope has trained gaited horses for long distance riding, showing and competition, driving, and pleasure trail riding.

In addition to working with gaited horses, Hope helps all breeds and horse owners to address issues common to all horses – confident and calm trailer loading and unloading, standing still for mounting, good manners on the trail, and fixing barn sour or buddy sour behavior. Horses are worked in the arena and on the miles of trails right off of Hope’s AA Ranch in Anza. Full or part-time training and tune-ups are available. Hope always has a few nice horses available for sale too!

If you have any questions about training, lessons, clinics, boarding or sales, contact Hope at 951-295-0408 or email [email protected].

Come and see Hope in action on October 15 at the Garner Valley Arena at a roundpenning and groundwork clinic entitled “Horsemanship From The Ground Up”. See Garner Valley Equestrian Alliance News article on Page 2.

Garner Valley Home Tour The Garner Valley Gals are proud to again sponsor a Home Tour in our community on Saturday, October 14th from 10:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m. Included in the tour are an artist’s home in the nearby Thomas Village, a western themed log home, a luxuriously decorated architect’s home, a gorgeous owner-designed home with 360 degree views of the valley, and a wonderfully decorated home hidden among the tall trees. This is a great opportunity to tour five of our unique and lovely homes and for us all to highlight our beautiful valley. The tickets are $20.00 each and will be available on the day of the event at the Common. For more information, please call 951-659-0281.

Idyology: Food, Fun, and Music

Idyology, located at 54905 North Circle Drive in Idyllwild, has changed its format since the opening and/or is under new ownership. The concept is simple:

1. Grab a menu. 2. Find a table. 3. Fill out your order form. 4. Come to bar or counter to order and pay. 5. Food will be delivered to your table.

While waiting for your food to be delivered, enjoy the music out on the deck or play any one of the many box games available in the dining room. There is a pool table in the back room, that can be played for free and lots of seating around to watch or just hang out.

The menu offers fare from salads to dessert. The main dishes are mostly chicken or burgers. There is a huge list of burgers from veggie burgers to buffalo burgers. The menu is simple and the atmosphere is lively and fun. People tend to linger and visit or play games, which is encouraged. I hadn't been to the restaurant since it first reopened, and was pleasantly surprised by the changes.
