President’s Report

Hi Friends, Isn’t it great to have the warmer weather returning? With spring well underway, we can definitely say now summer is on its way. That means more activities can be planned for outdoors, and that’s what we have in mind for the end of October. We have planned a little “country ramble” which will finish with a barbecue at the new facilities Ramaroa, in Queen Elizabeth Park. I hope you can all join us; many of you have said you will. If you are unable to join the ramble you are welcome to just come along to the barbecue to enjoy the friendship of other members. Full details are contained in the newsletter. Or you can just give me a call – 297 1622. The QE Park facilities are new at the completely re-built visitor centre, Ramaroa, which is in the location of the old ranger station and toilets just near the park entrance at McKays crossing. I was very impressed when I visited last year and immediately realised what a great venue it would make for one of outings. There is a covered outdoor area with seating together with a hall and fully equipped kitchen with a capacity for 60 people. I am sure you will be impressed also. Another FF Kapiti year is coming to an end and our AGM is just next month, the 18th November to be exact. The FF Kapiti board has decided this year to combine the AGM with our end of year function so our afternoon tea will have a festive theme. Immediate Past President Judy has promised to make us a Christmas cake and if you have tasted her cake (she made the one for our 30th celebration) you will know it’s worth coming to the AGM just for that! On a more serious note this AGM, as always, is the opportunity for a change of board members. I would like to ask all members, particularly our newer members, to give some thought to serving your club as a board member. This renewal of the board allows it to be refreshed with new ideas, new thinking and even a change of direction if need be. I would like to reassure any member considering a board role but unsure or concerned that their lack of knowledge of Friendship Force will hold them back, don’t let this stop you. The board works together so well that the experience of running this club will add to your knowledge and understanding of Friendship International - quickly. Dare I say it Christmas is just around the corner; the new year will gallop by and before we know it our first hosting for 2019 Quebec will be upon us. It must be my age, but the weeks seem to fly by. Fortunately our hosting team has things well under control and another enjoyable encounter with old friends will be experienced. In Friendship President Allan

Almoner

We are sending our best wishes to Graham Voyce, who has been having hospital treatment in recent weeks. We hope you are up and about and feeling much better soon.

Christmas Celebration

This year we are combining our Christmas Celebration with the AGM. The reason for this is the increasing cost of hall hire, plus catering increases and lower attendance numbers at last year’s Christmas Function. This will be our last social activity for the year, so please come along and join us. We are asking all members to bring a “festive” plate please. Judy will be making her famous Christmas Cake.

Did you see the report in the Kapiti News recently? Page 17

Visit of Friendship Force of Saitama to Kapiti

The Friendship Force of Kapiti Coast recently welcomed 15 Ambassadors from Friendship Force of Saitama, Japan.

They ranged in age from 14 to 80 and were hosted by members of FF Kapiti Coast. At the welcome dinner the

Japanese visitors were delighted to meet Mayor Guru and the 2 youngest visitors performed a traditional dance for

him. During the visit FF Kapiti members were treated to the Japanese Tea Ceremony, origami, singing and dancing,

and furoshiki (wrapping with cloth).

A very varied programme saw the Saitama members visit Kena Kena School, where students gave them a tour of the

school, and the Kapa Haka group enthralled them with their performance. Visits to the Foxton Flax Stripping Mill

and Wellington by train were included in the programme, together with Nga Manu Nature Reserve – a great favourite.

The Friendship Force of Kapiti are a group of local people, with a common interest in meeting and sharing cultural

experiences with people from around the globe. Friendship Force enables us to confidently travel (as ambassadors) to

places all around the world, including where language may be a problem. http://kapiti.friendshipforce.co.nz/

Visit of Friendship Force of Quebec Region

We were delighted to receive a request from the Friendship Force of Quebec Region to visit us in March 2019. Our members visited their club a couple of years ago and had a warm reception, so we are very pleased to reciprocate. Host Co-ordinators Jan Reid and Rhondda Harris have already started the planning process, and their suggested itinerary looks great. Watch this space.

Friendship Force International Website Update We were recently asked by Kimberly, our Regional Support Manager, to update our description on the FF International website. So we did and we were pleased to see that anyone, around the world, looking at the FF International website, can easily be directed to our own page and make an enquiry. https://friendshipforce.org/clubs/kapiti-coast/

THE FRIENDSHIP FORCE PLEDGE

As a member of the Friendship Force I recognise that I can make a difference. I recognise that I have a mission.

That mission is to be a friend to the people of the world. As I embark on this adventure I know that others will be watching me.

I know that through my example to my fellow citizens and people of other countries, the cause of peace and friendship can be furthered.

I can make a difference.
