National 4-H Week: Let’s make sure we send a strong message about the difference 4-H makes in the lives of young people. National 4-H Week is October 7-13, 2018 and this year’s theme is “#“Inspire Kids to Do” National 4-H Week is a rallying point and opportunity to build on the national marketing campaign, promote the 4-H brand, recruit youth and volunteers, and engage with alumni. Visit www.4-h.org for 4-H promotional kits and you can now download flyers, posters, and more on the new Marketing Online Resources Portal. Use these advertising materials to promote your program for National 4-H Week and beyond.

Officer Leader Training: Our 4-H Officer / Leader training will be at the Amite High School auditorium, October 24th from 10 am - 12pm. Parliamentary procedure, what’s that? After a long and busy summer it’s time to brush up and hone in on our parliamentary procedures to help run your 4-H Club meetings. Come and learn your responsibilities as a club officer and how to make your club meeting the best they can be. The training will help new and past club officers and their leaders. The 4-H staff and Jr. Leaders will be hosting this workshop. Leaders will be able to obtain useful materials to help plan a successful club year. All club leaders and their officers are welcome to attend. 4-Hers who attend will receive participation points for their club. We are looking forward to seeing each of you there!

Challenge Camp: Challenge Camp is slated for November 14-16. The camp is at the Lion King Retreat in St Helena parish. Challenge Camp is geared toward youth in 7th grade to build leadership, communication, and teamwork skills. If you are ready for the challenge, the cost for the camp is only $75, which includes t-shirts, meals, and lodging. We can only guarantee the first 4 girls and 3 boys. First come first served basis. A waiting / alternate list will then be formed. Registrations are DUE to the 4-H office by October 16th.Do not miss out, check with your leader for forms or email [email protected] for your registration forms!

**LIVESTOCK EXHIBITORS: BE PREPARED You MUST turn in this certificate when your papers are handed in to the 4-H Office on Nov 20th**LSU AgCenter Quality Assurance and Ethic’s Certification program: All Livestock Exhibitors are required to complete the Ethics Training and print the certificate for each species you exhibit. The website is available at http://qaec.lsuagcenter.com/. These forms are due with your entry forms by 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday, November 20, 2018!! Remember, if you still have a copy of your form from previous years, you do not need to repeat the certification, just give us a copy.

Shooting Sports Camp: November 30- December 2, 2018 in Pollock at Grant Walker Educational Facility Registration Due November 12th. The camp is geared for 4-H Youth ages 12-18 who are participating in advanced disciplines. Participants will choose one of the following: Advanced Shotgun (Trap, Skeet and Sporting Clays), National Archery (Field, 3D and FITA) and National Rifle (CMP, NRA 3P and Silhouettes). Parents and coaches are welcome to attend but it is not mandatory. Cost of the Camp is $100 per shooter and $100 per parent if attending. The cost includes 2 nights lodging, 6 meals, snacks, drinks, paper and clay targets and a camp T-shirt. Shooter will have to provide his/her own shooting equipment and ammunition as well as transportation. You also need to bring sleeping bag or sheets/blanket, pillow, towels, toiletries, sunscreen, shower shoes, clothes, etc. for your 2 night stay. No transportation provided.

Sewing Workshop: We will be having a sewing workshop for any youth interested ages 9 -19 to help sew aprons, pajama pants, skirts, or full outfits. The workshop will be Monday, November 19, 2018 from 9 a.m. until 12 noon at the office in Amite. There will be limited extra patterns and materials for anyone on a first come first served basis. Please call and let us know if you wish to attend. Limited space available. (If you know anyone getting rid of sewing machines; we need them, please think of 4-H.)

Fashion Camp: January 25-27, 2019 Textile/Apparel Project for 10-13 year olds (5th – 8th Grade) At Camp Grant Walker, Pollock, LA Deadline for Registration: DEC 3rd. Each parish has the opportunity to send a maximum of two 4-H campers (10-13 years old, 5th-8th) and one adult leader (project leader, junior leader, parent, grandparent, aunt, uncle, etc.) for camp. Campers will be registered on a first come, first paid basis due to limited space. No transportation provided.

Participants are required to have completed 8 hours of a 4-H Shooting Sports disciple training each year in each discipline in which they want to compete. 4-H members who have passed their 10th birthday on or before January 1st MUST have also completed a certified Hunter Education Course in order to compete. This training is available through the Louisiana Department of Wildlife & Fisheries only at www.wlf.state.la.us/hunting/education. (Please contact them directly for more info about Hunter’s Ed.)

Best 4-H Club Meeting Judging in November: After officers have been trained, their ability to conduct club meetings will be judged at the November club meetings. Criteria for judging will be the way business is conducted, club and educational programs, & behavior of the members. Certificates and points will be awarded to the Best 4th Grade, Elem, Jr High and High School. Winning clubs receive certificates at 4-H Fest.

Drug Free 4-H Clubs: Drug Free and Master Drug Free 4-H clubs are being organized in the parish. To be recognized as a drug free club, members must sign a petition that says they will remain drug free and clubs must submit an original anti-drug slogan with their signed petition. Clubs may become a Master Drug Free club by completing these requirements and conducting at least 3 activities during the year that promotes staying drug free. This will give you points. You have until Record and Project Books are due March 11th into our office to turn these forms in and report your 3 activities to the 4-H office.
