RESPECT LIFE “Only with prayer - prayer that storms the heavens for justice and mercy, prayer that cleanses our hearts and souls - will the culture of death that surrounds us today be replaced with a culture of life." -Pastoral Plan for Pro-Life Activities, U.S. Catholic Bishops– Tradition teaches us Christ was conceived on the Feast of the Annunciation. We will watch the parallel development of “Joseph” in the womb beginning on March 25 (Feast of the Annunciation) until December 25. The Office of Human Life and Dignity is making available a series of bulletin messages describing the fetal development of “Joseph.” Each week we will send out the messages to the parishes. Please consider inserting these messages in the bulletin for the upcoming weeks and each week through December 25.

Fetal Development of "Joseph” October 25 (week 32) I weigh three pounds now and will gain about a half pound each week until birth. It’s really cramped now, so Joseph has assumed the fetal position. I can see, but I don’t have 20/20 vision and I won’t have 20/20 vision until I’m 7 to 9 years old – hopefully. Mom is pretty uncomfortable. Fatigue is her constant companion. Sleeping on her left side may help, as it will remove some pressure on the nerves and blood vessels in her back. “For you love all things that are and loathe nothing that you have made; for what you hated, you would not have fashioned.” (Wisdom 11:24)

BREAKFAST: Please come and Join the parish November 1st for coffee, food and fellowship. Please bring a dish to share. We look forward to seeing.

Knights of Columbus of Transfiguration of Jesus, the Knights will sponsor the

Rosary on the 5th Sunday (and the Saturday night Mass) when there are 5 Sundays in the Month. The next month with five Sundays is November, so on November 29th, the First Sunday of Advent, the Rosary will be led by a Knight starting twenty minutes before the scheduled Mass. Cards: The Knights of Columbus Local Council #12921 is pleased to support: "KEEP CHRIST IN CHRISTMAS" by offering Religious themed Christmas cards ranging in price from $7.50 to $11.50. They will be offered after Mass and at events. Proceeds will be used to fund "Coats for (local) kids" for more information or to assist, please contact Rich Ciuccoli

The Knights of Columbus will be launching a "COATS FOR KIDS" initiative to provide warm coats for youth in our Community (Mission, Duplin and Pender Counties). Clean or new children's coats may be brought to the Church Hall starting October 24th and will be distributed between December 8th and 15th. Details on how you can help will be forthcoming. Children’s Choir: The current schedule for Parish music ministry activities: Children's Choir Practice - Wednesdays 3:45-4:30 Regular Choir Practice - Saturdays 3:00 Christmas Choir Practice - Saturdays 4:00 If you are interested in participating in any of these groups or if you play an instrument and would like to get involved, please call Lara at (910) 548-0505. All Souls Day, November 2nd: For those without envelopes or would like an envelope to honor the deceased for this Catholic Holy day, they will provided in the vestible and collected during the collection. DEAR PARISHONERS OF TRANSFIGURATION OF JESUS CATHOLIC CHURCH: The FOOD PANTRY at St. Joseph the Worker Catholic Church is in critical need of volunteers. This year 622 individual families from Duplin and Pender Counties received food. The Food Pantry is receiving/purchasing food on Tuesdays and distributing food every Thursday from 2-4pm to on average 70 families per week. We need to increase our volunteer base. This would allow for a rotating schedule that will provide volunteers the opportunity to work as much as they desire. To date we have provided 78,700 pounds of food, by way of scheduling families a pick up time every four weeks. This has resulted in 2,476 boxes of food being provided to many needy families. In the book by Steven Scott ‘The Richest Man Who Ever Lived: King Solomon’s Secrets to Success, Wealth, & Happiness, He provides the secret to happiness: “be grateful for all the things in our lives, by being generous,” which is to say - live a life of stewardship, a life where our time, talent, and our treasure are all put at the service of Christ and His Gospel. I sincerely hope that enough volunteers will come forward to fill this critical need that serves so many needy people within our community. Catholic Campaign for Human Development Parish Appeal Across the country, work is being done to fight poverty at its roots in places that offer inadequate education, tolerate unaffordable housing, and turn away from communities in need. The Catholic Campaign for Human Development (CCHD) is justice and charity in action through the Church. CCHD funds local community groups that work to change the systems that keep them in poverty. Through CCHD and its beneficiaries, we manifest Catholic social teaching and carry out Jesus’ mission to “bring glad tidings to the poor. / . . . to proclaim liberty to captives / and recovery of sight to the blind, / to let the oppressed go free” (Lk 4:18). In the last 10 years, nearly $1,000,000 in grant funding has been distributed to local organizations in our diocese. Your support during the November collection will create lasting change. Fight poverty in America. Defend human dignity. Give to the CCHD Collection.
