The Parish Office will be closed on Monday. November 1st for All Saints Day.

The month of November gives us the opportunity to lift our minds and our hearts toward our eternal destiny. The month starts out with the Feast of All Saints, when we cele-brate all members of our Church who have lived holy and virtuous lives and are now enjoying the eternal happiness in heaven with our God. On the second day of the month, the Church commemorates all the Souls in Purgatory who are awaiting the union with God in heaven. The prayers, work of charity of the living, and especially the Holy Masses of-fered for these souls, would tremendously help them during this period of purification. This year, the Vatican has decided once again to grant a ple-nary indulgence to Catholics who visit a cemetery to pray for the dead on any day in the month of November. In a typical year, the Church only grants this plenary indulgence for the souls on November 1st—8th, the week of the Solemnity of All Souls’ Day. The usual conditions to obtain these indul-gences while visiting the cemetery include: being free of mor-tal sin, praying the Our Father and the Creed, and directing the prayer according to the intention of the Holy Father. At our parish, we will celebrate the Solemnity of All Saints at 6:00 p.m. on Monday, November 1st, and the Mass for All Souls at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, November 2nd.

Parish Hour of Chant

It's hard to believe but we are now only a few Sundays away from the First Sunday of Advent. Advent begins a new liturgical year and marks a change in liturgical seasons. The lectionary readings will be taken from Year C in the cycle, and we begin chanting parts of the Mass in Latin. OLM parishioners are already adept at chanting the entirety of two distinct Latin Masses. We can be proud and happy when our Spanish and English speaking communities come together for Holy Days, Christmas, and Easter, and we can all sing the parts of the Mass as one. We would like to begin introducing another Latin Mass setting that we will begin singing in Advent. We will be adding Mass XVII to our repertoire The setting can be found in the St. Michael Hymnal and the Lumen Christi Missal, both of which are in our pews. For your convenience, we will be posting scores for each Mass part for you to print out if you would like. We will also post practice videos over the course of the next several weeks. In addition, we will be hosting a Parish Hour of Chant on Thursday, November 4th, from 7:00 p.m. — 8:00 p.m. This hour will give everyone, young and old, the opportunity to come together as a parish and learn to sing the new Kyrie, Sanctus, and Agnus Dei with the help of our choirmaster and our awesome choir and cantors. The Parish Hour of Chant will also be a chance to review the use of the pew missal and how it can be used to help us pray and sing the Mass.
