ROAD CLOSURES KNOW BEFORE YOU GO!

On Sunday October 12th Go St. Louis will again have their annual Half Marathon Race and some City streets will be closed. The Arsenal Street Exit will be closed. Our Faithful coming to Sunday Mass from the South on Interstate 55 will need to EXIT toward Interstate 44 West and then use the Jef-ferson Street EXIT. Going South to avoid delays.

KIRCHWEIHFEST SUNDAY, NOVEMBER 23

This year we will see again our Kirchweihfest, the celebration of the consecration of our magnificent church on November 26, 1908. According to the tradition here at the Oratory we will offer a festive lunch with German (Bavarian) food, catered by Two Mikes Catering, after the 10:00 AM Mass on November 23, 2014, in the church hall.

This year’s Kirchweihfest will again include a “Chocolate Cake Contest”. If you want to par-ticipate in this important culinary event, please register at the rectory before November 15, 2014, 12 Noon. Only chocolate cakes which were produced entirely “from scratch” (no cake mixes!) will enter the finals. “Organic in-gredients” and “gluten-free” cakes will gain special points.

The Kirchweihfest will include several features of the Summer at the Oratory event as well as the Seminary Society Breakfast. It will be an occasion for us to celebrate the many blessings God has be-stowed on this wonderful Oratory community, es-pecially the generosity and the fruitful hard work of its members, for which we are most grateful. Please mark your calendars!

GAUDETTE GALA 2014 Gaudete Gala 2014 will be glorious, elegant, and uplifting – a sublime moment of joy during Ad-vent. This year the Gala will take place on Sunday evening, December 14th, at the Sheldon (3648 Washington Blvd, Saint Louis), and will once again feature the Oratory’s choirs under the direc-tion of Mr. Nick Botkins.

Tickets for the Gala Reception and the Concert will go on sale November 5th.

Please reserve the date December 14 on your calendars, and plan on inviting your families and friends to share the joy of Christmas at the Gaudete Gala.

KNIGHTS OF COLUMBUS APPEAL FOR HELP

As members of the Oratory of Saint Francis de Sales, we embrace the mission of the Institute of Christ the King, Sovereign Priest, with the desire to “spread the reign of Christ in all spheres of hu-man life by drawing from the millennial treasury of the Roman Catholic Church, particularly her litur-gical tradition, the unbroken line of spiritual thought and practice of her saints, and her cultural patrimony in music, art, and architecture.” In 2005, with enduring appreciation and no shortage of pride, we received the great and generous gift of Saint Francis de Sales Oratory, granted to us by His Eminence, Raymond L. Cardinal Burke, then Archbishop of Saint Louis. We knew full well the monumental challenges that awaited us, with the faded grandeur of a neglected and abandoned sanc-tuary only too plain to see. Yet our resolve went undiminished. For the better part of a decade, we have labored and given where we were able to pro-tect and preserve the sacred liturgy of the Extraor-dinary Form of the Roman Rite, and the historical and sacred edifice we call home. It is not for lack of desire, nor lack determination, which prevents our giving, but a lack of means. The question re-mains, “How can I, a person of limited means, pro-vide the level of assistance needed to support the work of Institute of Christ the King Sovereign Priest and ensure an enduring legacy for future generations?” In response to such challenges, the Knights of Columbus offer a program of Charitable Life Insurance Giving, whereby for a nominal amount of money per month, an ordinary person can bequest an extraordinary gift in death and an income stream in life through dividends payable to the Oratory. Such minimal monthly premiums are tax deductible, and add a new dimension in giving to support our church and its community of priests. For more information, please call me at your convenience. The need has never been so great, and the cause never so noble. Help save our church. Joseph Hofer, Field Agent Knights of Columbus (314)225-5278

“selling” Tootsie Rolls for as much as they can get you to give. It is the annual Drive for Persons with Developmental

Disabilities. In 1981, the Missouri Knights of Columbus established the first developmental center in the region dedi-cated to children with special needs. Today the KofC Devel-opmental Center at SSM Cardinal Glennon Medical Center

(http://bit.ly/KofCDevCenter) supports children with autism and other neurodevelopmental disorders in reaching their highest potential through comprehensive evaluation,

TO ALL OUR GUESTS… Canon Wiener and the faithful of St. Francis de Sales Oratory welcome you, and hope that your time in the “Cathedral of South St. Louis” may be an opportunity to share in the tradition of the Roman Catholic Faith.

Please enjoy the beauty of this building dedicated to St. Francis de Sales, co-patron of the INSTITUTE OF CHRIST THE KING SOVEREIGN PRIEST.

According to liturgical tradition, and the Extraordinary Form of the Roman Rite, Holy Communion is received kneeling and on the tongue. All visitors who are not of the Catholic faith are welcome to join us in prayer, but are requested not to receive Holy Communion. Because the reception of Holy Communion is the sign of Divine and Ecclesial unity, only practicing Catholics who are free of mortal sin, and in full communion with the Catholic Church should present themselves for Holy Communion.

We pray for the full visible unity among all Christians.

To receive more information about the Oratory or if you desire to become a member of the Catholic Church, contact the rectory. St. Francis de Sales Oratory is an Oratory of the INSTITUTE OF CHRIST THE KING SOVEREIGN PRIEST in the Archdiocese of St. Louis.
