Poinsettias & Food Donations
It’s time to order poinsettias and food donations. This year, Poinsettias and food
donations will be ordered together. The cost is $25.00 and will cover one
poinsettia and a donation for food to our Tucker Street Ministry. Order forms are
available in the church office. All orders and payments must be received in the office
by November 20, 2019.
Our Operation Christmas Child ingathering is this Sunday, November 10. The mission of Operation
Christmas Child is to provide shoeboxes filled with age appropriate gifts and the gospel to children af-
fected by war, poverty, natural disaster, famine, and disease. Our hope is to use these gifts to help share
the Good News of Jesus! Donations are still welcome. If you have questions, see Margaret Gurd.

Our Sympathy
The ministers, staff, and congregants of
First Baptist extend our deepest sympathy to:
Family and Friends in the loss of
William Herbert Parks, Jr.
“Bill”
I want to begin by thanking Joshua Spencer for being our Worship Leader at Awakening for the last two
years. He has invested a lot of time, and a lot of effort in helping us launch a new service. Joshua has
grown exponentially in leadership, and as an individual. However, Joshua’s time with us will be ending in
November.
Jerry Cerezo, who has been on our worship team for several months now, will be stepping into the role of
Worship Leader during the Awakening Service. Jerry recently moved to North Carolina with his wife Luz
(Lucy) from Pennsylvania. Jerry has a huge heart for the Lord, a heart for service, and an excitement to
help us reach those far from Christ. November 24th will be Joshua’s last day with us, help us say thank
you to him between now and then, and I look forward to you getting to know Jerry.
AWAKENIN G W ORSHIP NEWS
WELCOME NEW MEMBERS!
The staff, congregants and members
of First Baptist Burlington are happy to welcome
Jerry and Luz (Lucy) Cerezo!
Hillcrest Backpack Buddies
As we gather with family and friends for Thanksgiving, please remember our Hillcrest Backpack food
recipients' needs. We especially need individual boxes of cereal, individual small cans of beanie
weenies, pudding cups, granola/snack bars, small boxes of raisins, and peanut butter
crackers. Maybe you can challenge your family to bring one small item to the
meal that would provide backpack stock. We are filling 26 bags a week, and
appreciate all you can do to help.
Thank you for the support, and have a beautiful
Holiday with your loved ones!
Rev. Cameron West, NextGen Pastor
Called Business Meeting Notice
There will be two sessions of a called business meeting on Sunday, November 24. The first session
will be held at 9:00 in the Awakening Worship Service. The second session will be held immediately
after the 11:00 service. The following motion will be presented for consideration:
The Deacons in regular meeting on Sunday, October 27 agreed to recommended that five of the seven
due to rotate off at the end of 2019 be extended for one year as an exception to the by-laws.
The three who have agreed to place their name in nomination for 3 year terms beginning 2020 will be
voted on in a called business meeting on Sunday, November 24. Nominations from the floor will be ac-
cepted but please be sure to get prior approval from the nominee should you wish to do so.
The three who have agreed to serve are;
Hoyle Alexander
Ken Barker
Jason Graves
This process will give us the 8 additions needed for a full Board of 21 for 2020.
During 2020, the required number of Deacons to serve will be reviewed as well as the by-laws govern-
ing the Deacons. Before the end of 2020 a recommendation will be made to the church for vote based
on the review findings.
The five who have agree to extend for one year are:
Brenda Beam
Martha Fraize
Greg Grayson
Christine Landess
Roger Phillips
An additional advantage will be continuity during this year of transition.
Thank you for your prayerful consideration.

Candidate: Ken Barker (continued)
Leadership/Servant Positions:
Sunday School teacher, Nominating Committee, Stewardship Committee, Hospitality Committee,
Bereavement Committee, Educational Loan Fund, Deacon
Candidate: Jason Graves
Biographical Info:
I was born in Alamance County and lived in Graham and Burlington while growing up. I spent 4 years in Ra-
leigh while in college, then moved back to Burlington where I have been ever since. I graduated from Wil-
liams High School and North Carolina State University. I previously worked at LabCorp for a year and a half,
worked at Aetna in High Point for 19 years, and am currently employed at Marsh & McLennan Agency in
Greensboro where I have been for 3 months.
Statement of Faith:
I grew up in a family that attended church off and on. We had attended First Baptist Church in Graham and
First Reformed Church of Christ in Burlington. I always considered myself a Christian, but it wasn’t until I got
older that I realized I was not the Christian that God wanted me to be. I was baptized as a teenager by Rev-
erend Mike Hooper at First Reformed Church of Christ. I felt like I was then a lot closer to God and had start-
ed serving Him. I joined First Baptist Burlington in 2012 due to it being a church that is centered on God and
due to its caring people. I like to pass on that caring attitude to other people, and help them to grow in their
faith.
Leadership/Servant Positions:
I am currently on the stewardship committee. I have previously served as a deacon, and have been vice-chair
of the deacons. I have also been involved in some missionary activities such as the Backpack Program for
Hillcrest Elementary, and have previously served at the Allied Churches Homeless Shelter.
