Past Events | Division Council Meeting

The August DCM at the Yosemite Recreational Center was very informative and fun. The meeting started off with the pledge of allegiance and the Key Club oath. Introductions were made and we started the first icebreaker, the model, the sculptor and the statue. Then the second icebreaker was a game where you had to cross the lava river by standing on pieces of paper. The last icebreaker was "I love my Key Clubbers who...". After these three icebreakers we went inside the building. Presidents gave their update on their home clubs. Then the presentations were started. Presentations were given on the Pediatric Trauma Program, the Eliminate project, and what Key Club is. These presentations were very informative. After, we pied people for fundraising for PTP.–Priscilla Kim (Holy Family)

Past Events | Division Council Meeting

The Division Yard Sale was a very good experience as a member. Although it was not a very big event, we still had fun advertising for Mrs. Jekarl to help raise money for PTP. We helped set up her entire front yard with stuff for sale and people came out and supported us. We went to publicize to the people down the street and put up signs all along the boulevard in an attempt to capture people’s attention. I think that it was a pretty successful event considering that we helped raise a good amount of money for a worthy cause. I am glad that I got to go to this event because Mrs. Jekarl fed us Porto’s and tea as well. I hope that if we ever have another yard sale that it is even more successful than this one. I hope that raising money for PTP triggers a reaction in some of you because it is one of the most significant charities that are out there. I am eager to see some of you donate and participate in our endeavors against Pediatric Trauma. Hopefully we will have future events similar to this one to help expose us of the reality that is Trauma among the Youth. – Aram Vartanian (John Marshall)

Past Events | Scavenger Hunt

On August 11, I attended

Benjamin Franklin Key Club’s 2nd

Annual Scavenger Hunt at the

Glendale Galleria and the

Americana. We were divided

into groups of 2-3 people, and

we each paid a donation of $2

to participate in the event. Then,

we were provided with 25 riddles

to solve. The answer to a riddle

would be a store located in

either the Galleria or the

Americana, and we had to take

a picture in front of the store. The

first four groups to finish would

receive prizes. Our group

finished second and received a

prize of $10. The event was very

creative and I had a bunch of

fun. It was organized, so people

were able to compete without

causing a disturbance. Even

though it was a hot day, Key

Clubbers were still spirited and it

was a success. This event was

very different from other events;

it was a fundraiser, but people

were able to have fun while

helping PTP. – Jenny Huang

Member of the Month

For the month of August, our member of the

month is Jade Archuleta! Jade is also our

Division Secretary. She is a dancer and singer

who devotes great amount of time into Key

Club. Jade takes tremendous responsibility in

everything she does; whether she’s at events,

meetings, or socials, Jade is an amazing role

model. Whenever she attends events, she

would play her ukulele to soothe the attentive

atmosphere. Her beautiful voice will always

brighten smiles because she makes

volunteering more enjoyable. Jade

demonstrates an amazing example of

leadership where she takes charge in

informing others about volunteering

opportunities and encourages others to be a

part of the club’s big family. Her kind services

allow individuals to be inspired and to be

involved in events with her. Jade not only

works hard volunteering, but also provides us

with a snippet of her dance performances

during breaks. She is a member who

establishes excellent achievements in her

assignments and awesome contributions to

the club. Jade can be a selfless individual

when it comes to helping others because she

is willing to put others before the benefit of

herself. She voluntarily helps out with

fundraisers because she wants to be a part of

the organization. She hopes to spread her

knowledge of Key Club to others; hopefully to

help the club gain more magnificent

members. Jade is an excellent role model for

others because she is responsible, talented,

and charismatic.

Officer of the Month

For the month of May, the officer of the month

is our lovely president, Aljelen Paraiso! Just like

her last name, she is our club’s paradise.

Despite having a lot on her plate, she always

has a luminous smile spreading across her

face. Aljelen wants what’s best for our club

and constantly thinks about the

enhancement of the club. She is productive,

steadfast, and determined. In her eyes, we

can achieve success because she believes

that our club is efficient and capable of

making our community a better place. In

early August, our school had an orientation for

incoming ninth graders. Aljelen immediately

thought of targeting incoming freshmen for a

perfect recruitment for the club. Being the

amazing person that she is, Aljelen successfully

gained more students signing up for Key Club

than she initially expected. She is fully

committed to ourclub, where she spends

numerous of time planning for events and

organizes fascinating volunteering

opportunities for members. Aljelen wants

members to be active by attending events,

having the initiative to offer services for the

community. Her devotion surpasses helping

out the community events. She makes sure to

complete her club assignments before ending

her day with her social life and school work.

Aljelen is our ultimate inspiration because she

is entirely committed to the club as she

establishes a great stepping stone for our

fellow members. She hopes to encourage

members to be willing to sacrifice their time

for the benefit of others.

Education Corner

What is Key Club? Key Club International is the high school organization sponsored by Kiwanis

International. Key Club assists Kiwanis in carrying out its mission to serve the

children of the world. High school student members of Key Club perform acts of

service in their communities, such as cleaning up parks, collecting clothing and

organizing food drives. They also learn leadership skills by running meetings,

planning projects and holding elected leadership positions at the club, district

and international levels.

Key Club International brings together all Key Club's members' efforts and

energies into an area that makes an international impact through the Major

Emphasis, "Children: Their Future, Our Focus.” The Major Emphasis unites Key Clubs

under the banner of service that deals with the most important part of our

community, our youth.

The Key Club service initiative is the hands-on element of the Major Emphasis. All

of the hands-on service provided to children by Key Club International members

is directed to a single area of need, to make a substantial impact. The current

service initiative, The Eliminate Project, allows Key Clubbers joining forces with

Kiwanis International and UNICEF eliminate maternal and neonatal tetanus.

Each year, Key Club International teams up with its three partner organizations,

March of Dimes, Children’s Miracle Network and UNICEF, for the fundraising

element of the Major Emphasis. As you plan your club’s service programming for

the year, keep these organizations in mind. Each Key Club is encouraged to

participate with our partners as we join together to make a difference in the lives

of children.

* We do not make Keys.

We are however, the Key Students

helping to make a brighter future!
