Pink was the color of success forthe APDT Rally trial at KeystoneCanine Training Club September 8& 9 and many teams conqueredthe color. Both Sterling and Cop-per had 3 successful runs to earntheir first titles. Both dogs wouldhave had 4 qualifying runs each IFtheir handler (namely ME) had notseen fit to miss a sign. Thank youto the committee as the event ransmoothly and professionally. Thejudges were delightful. This eventboded well for the club. Congratsto all - everyone was a winner.Plan on competing at the secondevent in Spring, 2013.Barbara Newman
Laika and I participated in our firstpack hike in Gettysburg, PA duringthe Samoyed Nationals in lateSeptember. We hiked 8 milesthrough the battlefields of Gettys-burg with 69 other Samoyeds. Thegroup was led by one of the guidesthat does the battlefield tours andwe learned a lot about the Battle ofGettysburg. To qualify for an“official” pack hike per theSamoyed Club of America’s crite-ria, the hike must be at least 5miles and the dog has to carry atleast 25% of it’s weight in the pack.We practiced some before theevent, “hiking” around the streetsin our neighborhood. Laika had toget used to carrying the pack firstand then get used to the gradualincrease in weight. The day of thehike she did beautifully! She wasvery eager to keep going andnever seemed to mind having the8-pound pack on her back. Laika’sbreeder, who is from the Erie area, was also on the hike and she hadLaika’s sister, Teal, and her father,Sir, along for the hike. We all hada good time and were all very gladto get back to our starting pointwhere lunch was waiting as wellas some chairs! The Nationalalways inspires us to trysomething different!
Icey and Crystal finished 1st and2nd, respectively, in PreferredJWW agility at the Samoyed Clubof America National Specialty InGettysburg, PA. Also, Crystal fin-ished 1st in Preferred Time to Beatand 4th in Advanced Rally.
Icey earned her 7th MastersJumpers Preferred title on October13 at the Cleveland All-BreedTraining Club agility trial in N. Olm-stead, OH. We are very proud ofour old girl and are very blessedthat she is still able to compete inagility!
