The Temiskaming Foundation

January  2017

Dear  Community  Champion,

If  you  are  reading  this  letter  and  report,  you  should  consider  yourself  a  Community  Champion.    I  would  like  to  thank  you  for  your  interest  in  the  Community  and  our  Community  Foundation.

The  Temiskaming  Foundation  (TTF)  has  now  reached  an  amazing  6.7  million  dollars  in  endowment  funds,  giving  over  $300,000  back  to  our  community  in  2016  alone.    As  you  read  on,  you  will  discover  the  generosity  of  many  individuals  from  our  community  and  also,  many  living  outside  our  community.

In  2017,  among  many  other  projects,  we  are  hoping  to  increase  our  Community  Funds.    These  types  of  funds  do  not  have  fund  restrictions  which  gives  the  committee  unrestricted  dollars  to  better  align  disbursements  where  the  community  needs  are.    The  disbursements  from  the  Community  Fund  in  2016  are  outlined  in  this  report,  making  a  difference  for  individuals  and  community  groups.

Your  donation,  big  or  small  makes  a  positive  impact  on  our  community.

I  would  like  to  thank  our  dedicated  Board  of  Directors  and  Advisors  for  their  commitment  and  dedication  to  making  the  TTF  what  it  is  today,  and  especially  Claire,  our  Executive  Director  for  continuously  going  beyond  the  call  of  duty  to  make  sure  everything  runs  accurately  and  efficiently.

Thank  you,

Michele  Lamoureux  President  The  Temiskaming  Foundation

One Foot Forward – Gord & Greyson Zubyck Fund

On December 26th, 2015 John & Shelly Zubyck suddenly lost their two-year-old son, Greyson. As a means to bring positivity from their tragic loss they honoured his short life with a memorial event in order to raise funds for the Gordon and Greyson Zubyck Memorial Fund through the Temiskaming Foundation.

The “One Foot Forward: Greyson Zubyck Memorial Dinner and Auction” took place on July 9th, 2016 in Temiskaming Shores. There was a fun run, golf at a privately owned course, and a sports charity dinner that took place in the evening.

These events raised $375,000 for the Gord & Greyson Zubyck Fund. The Zubyck Family recognizes the positive effects participation in sport have on youth and the goal for this fund is to provide support to youth sports programs, healthy active living activities and scholarships within Temiskaming Shores and surrounding area.

TEMISKAMING In 2016 The Temiskaming Foundation partnered with charities and professionals in the community to participate in a LEAVE A LEGACY ™ project. A series of one page information articles were published in the Temiskaming Speaker during the month of May. Each week highlighted a local example of people making a difference in the lives that follow. LEAVE A LEGACY™ is a national initiative of the Canadian Association of Gift Planners to promote interest in and create public awareness of charitable giving through a will or an estate plan. Its national mission is to encourage all Canadians to have a Will and to consider the personal and financial benefits of making a charitable bequest to the charities of their choice. Our goal is to encourage everyone to "Make a Difference in the Lives that Follow." For more information on this project contact LEAVE A LEGACY™ at 1-800-430-9494 or check out the LEAVE A LEGACY ™ TEMISKAMING website at www.northernontario.ca/leavealegacytemiskaming

The i150 Manifesto

Soon, we Canadians will celebrate the birth of an idea.

A vision. A hope and a dream. A promise.

In 2017, we will celebrate the 150th birthday of our great nation.

Let us rise, we passionate Canadians, we dreamers and builders.

And bring our nation the gift of our boundless imagination.

Once again, as we have done generation after generation,

let us imagine an even greater Canada.

A Canada even more generous and just.

Even more bold, more innovative.

Even more vital, more compassionate.

Even more strong and free.

As we approach Canada’s birthday let us speak, entre nous, of the nation we could be.

On the day, let us bring Canada the gift of a new dream.

And the next day, and in the days to follow, let us roll up our sleeves and build it.
