This film is based on the novel, “The MAKIOKA Sisters” by TANIZAKI Junichiro. The story focuses on the daily lives and activities of four sisters living in Osaka during the pre-World War Ⅱ period. Themes of family roots and marriage issues are dominant throughout the film which is paralleled to the four seasons in Japan.
