The following students were caught being RE-

SPECTFUL, RESPONSIBLE or displaying acts of

FORGIVENESS in the month of March! We are

very proud of each and every one of you!

Callawassie Garden Tea was truly a special

event! Our students helped serve lemon-

ade, tea, or water and cookies, lemon bars,

pie on a stick, as well as, seed ball pots

which were lovingly decorated and

wrapped by our second graders. Many

thanks to the Callawassie Garden Club for

their thoughtfulness, efforts, and

continued support!

Several families attended our CrossFit Kid's Night and fun was had by all. The highlights of the night were when the kids beat the teachers at tug-of-war and the Hunt/Peterson showdown on tug-of-war! Thank you to Coach Barry, Coach Angie, and Coach Adam from CrossFit Port

Royal Sound for coming out and showing our kids some fun physical activity.

Congratulations to OES, as we surpassed our March of Dimes goal of $1000.00!

We collected a total of $1032.00!!! Many thanks to Mrs. Summers for organizing

the event, and for Mrs. DeWeese and Mrs. Aaron for assisting her! Excellent team

work! Another huge thank you to everyone that came out to walk in the March of

Dimes Walk in Bluffton. It was a fun time!!

Congratulations to our April Character Winners for modeling and

demonstrating outstanding “forgiveness” daily. We are very proud of

Skylar Delpier, Addison Gourley, Jeremy Seabrook, Langley Ruth Hogs-

head, Rachael Wynne, and Max VanEsselstyn.

Over 80 owls attended our Sunset Science on Mitchelville Beach led by Mrs. Lauffer. Everyone that

attended went on a scavenger hunt for horseshoe crabs, shells, and other types of beach life. The

kids braved the water to pull the seine net and to swim. Everyone enjoyed sand castle building as

well. Special thanks to Mrs. Lauffer, Mrs. Wilson, Ms. Mulligan, Mrs. Gourley, Mrs. Newton, and

Mrs. Brown for helping out tonight!

Congratulations to Ana Cristina Tuzzo, who was voted OES’ 2016-

2017 Volunteer of the Year! Mrs. Tuzzo attends the majority of all

school events on and off campus, during the school day and after,

as well as any field trip she has the opportunity to attend. She

takes hundreds of pictures tha we post on Facebook or use for our

newsletters and Enews. She is a room mother for both of her

son’s classes and serves as a mentor. She volunteers with PTO,

field day, Jump Rope for Heart, and Math bowls. She is always

copying or creating beautiful bulletin boards. Mrs. Tuzzo, thank

you for EVERYTHING that you do to make OES a better place.

Congratulations to Lynn Nagel, who was voted as OES’

Support Staff Member of the Year!! Lynn is the face that

parents, business partners, district staff and staff see first

daily. She is the happy greeter and keeper of multiple rec-

ords, reports and schedules. She is always willing to help

anyone in the building! She is an amazing artist, and our

school has been blessed with many of her murals through-

out her years with us. She is also an amazing mom to Tay-

lor. Thank you Lynn for being OWLSOME!!!

Congratulations to Leigh Underhill, who was voted as OES’ Teacher of the Year. Leigh is OES’ band, chorus, and music teacher. She choreographs performing opportuni-ties for all of owls. Each student has at least one oppor-tunity to be on stage during the year. She also helps pre-pare our fifth graders and kindergarteners for their big days at the end of the year, as well as, our weeist owls. Leigh produces the monthly E-News, she helps out at the front desk each morning, which is our busiest time of the day. She heads up the Honor’s Choir helping coor-dinate the events with other music teachers. She assists with sound and music needs for PTO events and as need-ed for district meetings. A very active and supportive mom/parent and aunt. Congratulations Ms. Underhill!!

OES Staff members attended an awards luncheon on Friday, April 28 in Columbia, SC to accept two new awards for our school. Our OWLSOME Incentive program won a Golden

Achievement Award, and our 2016-2017 Agenda won a publica-tions award. Awards were presented by the South Carolina

Chapter of the National School Public Relations Association or SCNSPRA. SCNSPRA recognizes public relations efforts and pro-grams that seek to enhance communication between schools

and the community.
