As in previous years, we have had an interesng events programme, starng in February with a talk on the Duke of Newcastle and Gladstone by Dr. Richard Gaunt of Nongham University. In May our annual oung was to Kedleston Hall, an 18th century Robert Adam building. In August we had a wonderful social evening and barbeque at the home of Sylvia and Godfrey Cozens. Unfortunately, due to illness, we had to post- pone our Autumn Georgian event to 25 Feb. 2015. This year we have been able to support the museum in the purchase of three painngs by Peter Brannan who worked in Newark for 30 years. As you can see from the picture on the leſt, these painngs were unveiled by the Mayor, Cllr B. Richardson, and are now a permanent feature of the Art Gallery. 2015 NEWSLETTER

Dear Friends

Every good wish for 2015.

Guy Taylor, our Chairman for 4 years, sadly died in April this year. He was an excellent Committee leader and kept the team work-ing well together.

As in previous years, we have had an interesting events programme, starting in February with a talk on the Duke of Newcastle and Gladstone by Dr. Richard Gaunt of Nottingham University. In May our annual outing was to Kedleston Hall, an 18th century Robert Adam building. In August we had a wonderful social evening and

barbeque at the home of Sylvia and Godfrey Cozens.

Unfortunately, due to illness, we had to post-pone our Autumn Georgian event to 25 Feb. 2015. This year we have been able to support the museum in the purchase of three paintings by Peter Brannan who worked in Newark for 30 years. As you can see from the picture on the left, these paintings were unveiled by the Mayor, Cllr B. Richardson, and are now a permanent feature of the Art Gallery.

In September, we promoted Heritage Open Days and the Friends by having costumed tours and a stall on the market place.

Another big project was the reupholstery of the two George Hepplewhite (1727-1786) chairs. These were beautifully done by an-tique upholsterer, Sylvia Cozens over the summer of 2014.

We will be showing the detailed process of the restoration of the chairs in their new green fabric coverings which are of horsehair at our next function. Further information

about the chairs is available in the art gallery.

The programme for the Spotlight Gallery is attached for Jan to June 2015. Please support the museum by visiting these interesting temporary exhibitions. Details of the museum’s events throughout the year can be found on the website: www.newarktownhallmuseum.co.uk.

As January is subscription month, we are most grateful for your subs. of £3.50 by 21st January. At a recent meeting we have decided to formalise the Committee by having a Constitution and an Annual General Meeting in May. At this point we will be proposing that the subs. are increased to £5.00 per person for 2016.

Thank you for your continuing support.
