HALL
OF
FAME
March 4, 2016
A Message from the Committee
Mar 4, 2016 Welcome to the Point Pleasant Foundation for Excellence in Education’s 18th Annual Point Pleasant High School Hall of Fame Dinner. This evening, we are honoring five new Hall of Fame inductees who have distinguished themselves and have honored our community through their accomplishments and contributions to society. It is also our privilege to recognize eight teachers and one educational support professional for their exemplary service and commitment to education; and ten senior students for their initiative and leadership characteristics, which one day may bring them back here as Hall of Fame inductees. As a group, these exceptional individuals represent the best of Point Pleasant, and truly demonstrate why this is a wonderful community to call home. The Committee extends a special thank you to the individuals who have supported our efforts, and to the educational and business communities for their continued cooperation and support. The Community’s generosity has been the principle source of our funding since the Foundation’s inception in 1997 and we ask for your continued support. You can support the Foundation in a number of ways, but two of the best ways are either by becoming involved as a Foundation member or through donations. We are always looking for more members to share in the personal satisfaction that comes from helping our students and schools. Point Pleasant is a great community and we all play a vital role in its continued growth and success! Thank you!

ACCOMPLISHMENTS TO DATE
In the 19-year history of the Point Pleasant Foundation for Excellence in Education, this 501(c)(3) not-for-profit organization has raised over $372,000 for the Point Pleasant School District, providing funding for Student Leadership awards; teacher grants; innovative programs, such as the Positive Behavior Support in Schools, an initiative to improve the school climate by identifying, recognizing and rewarding students for positive behaviors, and becoming more inclusive of all students; and new technologies & equipment that are not supported by the District’s budget. This past year, we gave over $7,000 to purchase 20 Chromeboxes for the high school Media Center. In addition, each summer since 2008, we have provided funding to the District’s Summer Reading Program, which involves students at all the schools and grade levels, to purchase i-Pads and e-Readers as prizes. The Foundation members are parents, alumni, and community members, most of who are not affiliated with the School District, but share a common concern for the children of the District and a vision for educational excellence. We continue to look for other high priority opportunities in the District for which the Foundation can provide financial support. We appreciate your continued support of our fund-raising events, including our Annual Treasure Island Sprint Triathlon; a new event coming this fall, Boro Bikes & Backyard BBQ’s; and this dinner.

BE PART OF THE
POINT PLEASANT TRADITION
Point Pleasant has been recognized for scholastic excellence and
enthusiastic school spirit. Over the years, there have been many
people who have contributed to this heritage. This positive
community image continues to attract solid citizens to our
neighborhoods and maintains our quality of life.
In 1997, the Foundation for Excellence in Education was established
to strengthen community participation in programs that would enrich
these values and traditions of the Point Pleasant Borough schools.
The Foundation encourages excellence through enhanced
community partnerships, student development, and creative
teaching.
The Foundation needs your help! It needs ideas, energy, and
resources to provide opportunities beyond the traditional learning
experiences, and that are not funded through currently established
programs.
The students of Point Pleasant Borough schools are our children and
our future. Help make the difference between a good education and
an exceptional education.

Point Pleasant Foundation Hall of Fame
Excellence in Education
Do you know someone who belongs
in the
Point Pleasant Borough High School
Hall of Fame? The Hall of Fame sponsored by the Foundation is not the typical one that
recognizes only graduates strictly for athletic accomplishments while in
high school. Rather, the Hall of Fame recognizes individuals in two
different categories – Alumni and Community Members.
The following guidelines have been established for nomination to the Hall
of Fame:
An individual who graduated from Point Pleasant Borough High School
no less than ten (10) years prior to nomination and completed at least
two full academic years at the high school prior to graduation; and
distinguished themselves academically, with recognized participation in
school activities and/or achieved recognition in athletics, performing
arts, community service, humanitarian affairs, in their chosen field, or
other activities deemed by the committee to merit this special
recognition.
or
A graduate who achieves extraordinary public recognition for their
accomplishment/talent/benevolence so as to warrant a special
appointment by the committee.
A non-Point Pleasant Borough High School graduate who has made a
significant contribution over a period of time to the well-being of Point
Pleasant Borough Schools and/or the children of Point Pleasant Borough.
If you know someone who is worthy of this special recognition, please use
the form in the back of this book or visit our web site at www.point-
foundation.org to nominate them.

In Memory Of
James S. Williams
June 30, 1928 – May 9, 2015 Jim Williams was the first principal of Point Pleasant High School. He
graduated from Trenton State College in New Jersey with a teaching
degree and continued his education at Seton Hall to obtain his Master’s
Degree in Administration. He was a physical education at the Ocean Road
School and progressed in his education career to become the Principal at
the school. He was then named the first principal of Point Pleasant
Borough High School when it opened in 1963. He was an outstanding
leader to his colleagues and students. Many of the teachers who have been
honored by this Foundation through the years have credited Mr. Williams
and Dr. Lawrence DeBellis for recruiting and hiring them, leading to their
successful careers at the Borough. The faculty and staff that Mr. Williams,
Dr. DeBellis, and Mr. Jack McHugh (the first Vice Principal at the high
school) established in the school’s early years created the environment and
tone that made the Borough an outstanding high school when it opened,
and it continues that tradition today.
During his years as an educator in Point Pleasant, Mr. Williams was
always a supporter of and strong role model to his students. There are
likely many who are attending this evening that have their own memories
of Mr. Williams and the impact he had on them. But the most lasting
impression of Jim Williams for all is probably his warm smile and white
knuckle handshake.

In Memory Of
Clifford A. McKennan
Jun. 10, 1946 – March 20, 1966
Clifford A. McKennan was part of the first senior class at the Boro.
Cliff, a running back on the football team, scored the "First" varsity
touchdown in 1964.
In 1965, after leaving school, Cliff volunteered to serve his country
in the US Army. After completing training at Fort Benning, GA,
and Fort Dix, NJ, he was assigned to the U.S. Army's 101st Airborne
Infantry Unit. On Christmas day, 1965, Clifford was in Saigon,
South Vietnam.50 years ago this month, on March 20, 1966, Cliff
volunteered for a search-and-destroy night patrol mission. His unit
crossed a river to their post line, where they were ambushed by the
Vietcong. Cliff was providing cover fire for his unit to re-cross the
river when a sniper's bullet took his life.
PFC Clifford A. McKennan was posthumously awarded the Purple
Heart, the Bronze Star Medal for Valor, the Military Merit Medal,
and the Gallantry Cross with Palm. Cliff was the first and only Boro
High School student killed in the line of action. He was only 19
years old, 3 months shy of his 20th
birthday. In his last letter home,
dated March14th, he mentioned thoughts of Point Pleasant Boro.
In remembrance of our fallen Hero.

EDWARD M. POLHEMUS
CLASS OF 1967
Edward M. Polhemus was born and raised in Point Pleasant, where
he attended Ocean Road Elementary School and was a 1967
graduate of Point Pleasant Borough High School. Ed was in the
first freshman class to enter the Boro. He was an “original
Panther”, attending the high school for 4 years, 1963 – 67.
Ed was the first soccer athlete in school history to win 4 varsity
letters. He played on the first Shore Conference championship team
and played in the state finals game versus Chatham in 1965.
Although the team lost in that final game, it was the first significant
championship that Point Pleasant was involved in, and the team
finished 17-2-1. Ed also played 2 years of varsity basketball and 2
years of baseball, and earned a varsity letter in track. His biggest
influences while at the Boro were Mr. Dave Dean, Mr. Tom Porter,
Mr. Richard Lansing, Mr. Al Saner, Dr. Lawrence DeBellis, Mr.
Jim Williams, Mr. Jack McHugh, Mr. Richard Morris, and Mr.
Lincoln Jividen.
After graduating from the Boro, Ed attended Morris Harvey College
(now the University of Charleston) in Charleston, WV. While at
Morris Harvey, he played soccer, helping to lead the team to their
first 3 winning seasons, with a record of 22-11-1. Amazingly, the
1970 team had 8 starting players from Point Boro, and was the only
team to defeat Davis and Elkins, which went on to win the NAIA
Point Pleasant Foundation Hall of Fame
Excellence in Education
National Championship that year. During his career, Ed achieved
the following All Conference honors - Honorable Mention - 1968;
Second Team – 1969; and First Team – 1970.
He was named to Who’s Who in American Colleges and
Universities in 1971. Upon graduating from Morris Harvey in June,
1971 with a BA in Health, Physical Education, History and English,
Ed returned to the Jersey Shore, and taught Health, Physical
Education, and Drivers Theory for 2 years in Manasquan Public
Schools and 34 years in the Toms River Regional School District.
Ed coached 60 seasons of various sports in the Shore Conference,
with stints at Manasquan, Toms River North, Toms River South,
Toms River East, Point Pleasant Beach, and Brick Memorial. He
coached 19 seasons of boys’ soccer; 22 seasons of girls’ soccer; 2
years of baseball; 14 years of boys’ and girls’ basketball; and 3
years of girls’ track. His most significant achievement was serving
as the first head coach for girls’ soccer at Toms River East High
School, winning 245 games, 6 Class A South championships, and
back-to-back Shore Conference Championships in 1984 and 1985.
He was named the NJ Girls’ Soccer Coach of the Year in 1985 by
the Newark Star Ledger.
Ed has been a role model for many and helped many students and
athletes achieve their goals as players and citizens. Currently, Ed is
involved in instructing behind-the-wheel driving and actively serves
at Grace Bible Church in Allenwood, NJ. He has been married to
his college sweetheart, Phyllis, for 44 years and they have 3
children and 3 grandchildren. Their son Daniel serves in the United
States Coast Guard as the Officer-in-Charge at Lake Tahoe;
daughter Leah is a teacher and coach in Florida; and Adam is a
sergeant in the NJ State Police. Ed has been blessed to be a pioneer
and leader at Point Boro and Morris Harvey, and a teacher and
coach in the Shore Conference.
He is thankful for being awarded this outstanding honor.

WENDI PEARCE YOCUM
CLASS OF 1991
A lifetime of goodwill and a dedication to excellence is clearly evident
when reviewing the wide-ranging achievements of Wendi Yocum. A
1991 graduate of Point Pleasant High School, Wendi lead an
extraordinarily active role in the athletic community during her four years.
Wendi was a three sport athlete, playing varsity level field hockey,
basketball, and soccer. During her junior year, the field hockey team won
the Shore Conference Tournament. Wendi was selected to the All-Ocean
County first team during her junior and senior years, as well as the All-
Shore Conference first team her senior year. In addition, Wendi played
varsity basketball for three years. During her senior year, the team won
the State Sectional Group II Championship. At the end of her senior
season, she was named to the All-County and All-Shore 2nd
teams.
Wendi contributed greatly during her time playing varsity soccer. She
was part of an exceptionally talented group of players that held the
Division Championship for all four years. Playing soccer in the spring
didn’t allow for playing in the state tournament, but the team won the
Shore Conference Tournament in 1990. Wendi had the honor of being
selected to the All-County first team for three years and to the All-Shore
first team her senior year. In 1991, Wendi was named the Ocean County
Athlete of the Year. Although Wendi enjoyed success in three sports, she
decided to focus on soccer after high school. She accepted a soccer
scholarship to Monmouth University in West Long Branch, NJ. The team
won the ECAC Championship in 1994, and also held the longest winning
Point Pleasant Foundation Hall of Fame
Excellence in Education
streak in the nation with 17 wins. While passionate about soccer, Wendi
was also focused on her academics, and graduated with her degree in
Elementary and Special Education.
After graduation, Wendi followed her desire to become a mathematics
teacher, and secured a position at Manchester Township Middle School,
where she has taught for the past 20 years. In the early years as a teacher,
Wendi found time to play semi-professional soccer for the Central Jersey
Splash and the New Jersey Stallions for several years. Continuing with a
legacy of achievement and excellence, Wendi was awarded the title of
“2010 Teacher of the Year”. She remains fully involved in two charitable
organizations sponsored by the district. They are “Helping Hands for
Hunger” and “Kevin’s Kids”. These two activities provide help for
Manchester Township families in need.
In 2008, Wendi, along with Alex House, formed and began coaching a
youth soccer team called the Barracudas. Thanks to Ms. Yocum’s follow-
through and perseverance, and the dedication of the players, the
Barracudas are still going strong after seven years. Under her guidance,
the girls understand the meaning of TEAM and know to leave “it” all out
on the field. This team spirit and dedication has been rewarded by the
team winning back to back State Cup Championships. Wendi is so proud
of the girls for their hard work and for their exemplary conduct, on and
off the field.
Wendi resides in Point Pleasant with her husband of 16 years, Drew.
Here, the Yocums enjoy their greatest achievements - their two daughters,
Paige, age 14, and Shae, age 12. Both of the girls are students in the Point
Pleasant School District. Wendi loves watching her daughters grow up
into amazing young women and is delighted that the girls are flourishing
in her own beloved hometown.

CHRISTOPHER CONSTANTINO
CLASS OF 1992 Christopher Constantino has been a full time resident of Point Pleasant for
32 years and prior to that he enjoyed spending time at his family’s ‘shore
house’ that his grandfather built in 1956. Chris and his wife, Kim,
currently call this same house “home”. Chris is a 1992 graduate of Point
Pleasant High Schooll and was a member of the High School’s freshman
wrestling team. During his early youth, Chris enjoyed playing baseball in
the Borough’s Little League programs. However, his true passion was
bodyboarding – both recreationally and competitively.
His love for the ocean and interest in the Earth Sciences led him to pursue
a degree in Marine Sciences from Richard Stockton College, where he
graduated in 1998. Chris has enjoyed a career trying to understand the
ocean’s physical interaction with land and working on projects to protect
New Jersey’s coastal resources, infrastructure and the recreational
elements that have brought many of us to the shore in the first place.
Chris has been an Environmental Specialist at the New Jersey Department
of Environmental Protection’s Bureau of Coastal Engineering (BCE) for
over 11 years where he interacts, on a daily basis, with groups from the
federal level all the way down to the municipal level as well as with
members of the public. Prior to working at the BCE, Chris was a research
assistant at the Stockton College Coastal Research Center, where he
assisted Federal, State and municipal groups with coastal issues related to
recurring storm damage and shoreline retreat.
Point Pleasant Foundation Hall of Fame
Excellence in Education
His interests in the environment and trying to protect the Borough’s
natural resources drove him to become involved with the Environmental
Commission and Climate Action Committee; he has been a member
since 2005 and 2007, respectively, and is currently the chairman of the
Environmental Commission. Being a part of these advisory groups, as
well as being a past member of the Borough’s Open Space Committee,
has allowed him to interact with the local officials, other advisory
groups, educators and residents to share the missions of each of the
advisory groups. Chris has worked with the Environmental Commission
over the last 10 years to continue the Commission’s biggest annual
feature - the Borough’s Earth Day Celebration. This event showcases
vendors of ‘green’ products/ideas and environmental organizations, as
well as local and small businesses, in an effort to instill environmentally
responsible ideas and practices into all generations. This April event at
Riverfront Park is known as one of the first events to get the community
together outdoors after the cold winter months. In addition, Chris and
the Commission have worked with the schools and local scouts by
conducting environmental presentations, performing community clean-
ups, and helping coordinate service projects, such as Eagle Scout
projects.
Chris was the Ocean Star’s Person of the Week in June 2009 and the
recipient of the 2012 Point Pleasant Chamber of Commerce Service to
the Community Award, and has received several proclamations for
community and career service.
During his free time, Chris enjoys time with his wife, Kim, and their dog,
Eddy; hanging out with family and friends; bodyboarding at his favorite
local surf breaks; and trying to pair good food combinations and the right
craft beer.

SCOTT BRADY
CLASS OF 2000 Scott Brady, CFP
®, born and raised in Point Pleasant, graduated Point
Pleasant Boro High School in 2000. As a student-athlete, Scott was a
multi-year captain and MVP of both the wrestling team and the golf
team. After graduating, Scott attended Loyola College in Maryland,
where he graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration,
specialization in Finance.
Returning to Point Pleasant after college, Scott began working at
Associated Financial Planners, LLC. He earned his CFP® (Certified
Financial Planner™) designation in 2007, completing the course
requirements through Boston University’s center for professional
education. At the time, he was one of the youngest CFP’s® in the
country. Scott purchased Associated Financial Planners, LLC in 2010.
Today, the company services over 600 clients nationally, but primarily in
the local and regional area. Scott received TFS’s (Tomorrow’s
Financial Services) Community Service Award in 2013 and has been a
member of their Inner Circle Advisory Board since its inception.
Scott is co-founder of the Carmie Brady Foundation, Inc., which is a
501(c)(3) charitable organization dedicated to helping local children who
are suffering from serious illnesses. Since 2008, the foundation has
raised close to $500,000 through local fundraising. The Carmie Brady
Foundation is run by all volunteers with no overhead, meaning all the

money raised goes to sick children right in our community. To date, the
Carmie Brady Foundation has helped over 70 local families.
In addition to the fundraising for local children, a cancer walk is held
each year to support the Carmie Brady Room at the ACS Hope Lodge in
NYC. The Hope Lodge is a building where anyone being treated for
cancer can stay free of charge. The foundation has donated over
$150,000 to the Hope Lodge to date. Throughout the years, Scott has
been a guest speaker at several events for the American Cancer Society’s
Hope Lodge.
Scott has been an assistant/volunteer wrestling coach at Point Boro since
2008. Throughout his tenure, the team has produced 14 district champs,
4 region champs, 4 state place winners, and 3 divisional championships.
Most importantly, Scott has been able to work with the wrestlers to pass
on the lessons taught to him, which continue to be the foundation of his
accomplishments.
Scott’s most recent accomplishment was earning his Private Pilot license,
allowing him to fly small airplanes.
Scott is fortunate to have his father and brothers all living in the local
area and spends as much time as possible with his nieces and nephews.
He also travels the world as much as time allows, having visited over 30
countries.
Scott continues to support as many local organizations and events as
possible, especially in the Point Pleasant community. He is a perennial
supporter of the Point Pleasant Foundation, Point Boro Boosters, Elk’s,
VFW’s, American Legions, Just Us Girls, Friendly Sons of the
Shillelagh, events run by Point Pleasant schools and athletics, along
with many local fundraisers not run by a formal organization. His
continuous goal is to give back as much as possible to the people
of his community.

CORINNE BRENNAN
COMMUNITY MEMBER
After graduation from Ocean Road School, St. Rose High School,
and College Misericordia, Corinne Brennan returned to Point
Pleasant during the early years of the High School to teach French
and English. During those early years, she started the Future
Teachers Club and the Keyette Club, and enthusiastically cheered
sports teams.
She married her college sweetheart, Tom Brennan, and settled in
Point Pleasant Beach. There they raised two children, Sarah and
Tom, who shared athletic and social interests with friends from
both Point Boro and Point Beach. On holidays, the family
delivered meals from Pantry dinners to shut-ins and transported
guests to the Friendship dinners. Today, Sarah lives with her
husband, Bill Brazill, and sons, Finn and Cormac, in Media,
Pennsylvania; and Tom lives with his wife, Katelee, in
Bordentown, NJ.
Corinne spent her entire 39-year professional career in Point
Pleasant Schools, teaching French and English, becoming
Chairperson of the English Department, Supervisor of World
Point Pleasant Foundation Hall of Fame
Excellence in Education
Languages, and for the final 8 years, Supervisor of Extended Day
Programs. Throughout this time, she thoroughly enjoyed
interactions with students, teachers, and parents and was active in
education associations and various committees.
Early in the 1980's, she was presented with the opportunity to
bring her senior students to Saint Gregory's Pantry after school to
carry and deliver groceries to families who lacked transportation.
This holiday work provided an ideal vehicle for them to learn first-
hand community service and the complex nature of the term
"community."
Over the years, the needs of the Pantry grew, and with them, the
involvement of Point Pleasant students, until today two class trips
for each holiday distribution involve the carrying and delivering of
groceries, from 50 pound bags of potatoes to groceries for a family
of 9 lacking transportation. This work is physically and
emotionally exhausting, but done with a ready smile.
Since her retirement from Point Pleasant Schools in 2008, the
organization of this student involvement in Saint Gregory's has
been picked up by her fellow teachers at the High School who
share her belief in this job.
In her retirement, Corinne expanded her involvement in the Pantry,
helping with their office and monthly Friendship Dinners, and also
discovered a need for her help at The Center in Asbury Park,
which provides assistance to HIV positive people in the area. This
work has drawn her into yet another community whose needs have
taught her so much.
Her family, the community, and travel fill her life, even in
retirement.

Scott,
It has been said that we are conditioned to think our lives revolve
around great moments. Truth be told, great moments catch us
unaware, beautifully wrapped in what others consider small ones.
Thank you for all the small moments of laughs, car rides, root beer
floats, pizza, and more. Most importantly, for making a lasting impact
with your kindness, compassion, and integrity, best exemplified by
your love of your family,
CONGRATULATIONS
TO ALL OF THE
EVENING’S HONOREES!
