AdmissionThough a basic knowledge of yoga postures and phi-losophy is helpful, beginners are welcome. The course is intense and demands discipline. You must be sincere in your desire to learn and follow the rules. Please note that in keeping with the ancient Yoga tradition, spiritual practices such as meditation, mantra chanting, ceremonies, selfless service and study of philosophy constitute a large part of this program. You must be basically healthy.
No meat, fish, eggs, alcohol, tobacco or narcotics are allowed. Participation in all classes and punctuality are mandatory.
W H AT T O B R I N G
Two sets of uniforms are provided, but you will need to bring modest, comfortable clothes for asana practice, plus casual clothes. Be prepared for cool weather and possibly rain. We recommend that you bring a waterproof jacket, sweaters, wool hat, T-shirts, cotton pants, night clothes, swimming suit (for nearby hot spring), sun hat, shoes for nature hikes and a pair of slip-on shoes.
Please bring Yoga mats, meditation cushions, meditation shawls, blankets, toiletries, notebooks, pens, flashlights, alarm clocks and water bottles. Internet access is available. Cell phones and SIM cards need to be purchased or equipped prior to arrival. The location is remote.

The Complete Illustrated Book of Yoga by Swami Vishnu- devananda and the Bhagavad Gita with commentary by Swami Sivananda and other books are available for purchase at the Yoga Center in Chengdu.

Space is limited (maximum 50 students). A non-refundable deposit of $300 is required to secure your reservation. In the case of cancellation, a credit note (minus $100 adminis-tration fee) valid at Sivananda Yoga Centers and ashrams in China will be given. The outstanding balance must be paid upon arrival or before. The fees listed below include tuition.

The Gurus Swami Sivananda (1887–1963)Swami Sivananda’s teachings are a synthesis of all four paths of yoga. He was a medical doctor, wrote 300 books and is a great sage and yogi from the Himalayas.
Swami Vishnu-devananda (1927–1993)Swami Vishnu-devanda is the founder of ISYVC with headquarters in Canada. and total nine ashrams and 30 centers in 18 countries. He is a renowned authority on Hatha and Raja Yoga and author of the classical textbooks The Complete Illustrated Book of Yoga and Meditation and Mantras. He was a pioneer in starting Yoga Teacher Training Courses and yoga vacations throughout the world.

The Teaching
In 1969 Swami Vishnu-devananda taught the first Yoga Teacher’s Training Course in the West. Over 38,000 teachers worldwide have graduated. The 4-week course gives you the proficiency to transmit the knowledge of yoga to others and is a profound personal experience. The benefits are increased strength and flexibility, greater awareness, improved concentration, enhanced self-esteem and a new-found sense of self-discipline. CertificationUpon successful completion, students receive a certificate from the International Sivananda Yoga Vedanta Centers, and are entitled Yoga Siromani (teacher of yoga). This training gives 200-hour Yoga Alliance certification.

Location The course will be held at the Qian Yuan Taoist-buddhist Temple, an exceptional location two hours outside the city of Chengdu, China. The temple traces its history to 1,940 years ago. It is famed in China for its secluded yet accessible location, and for the exceptional air quality, which is full of healthy and energizing negative ions. The quiet, seclusion and excellent air quality make this the perfect location for Yoga practice. Situated on the mountainside at an altitude of 5,500 ft., the accom-modation is newly built to a high standard geared to international visitors. The views from the mountain are spectacular. The temple complex is surrounded by bamboo forest and many ancient trees, along with natural springs, waterfalls and limestone caves with many ancient sculptures and statues. The closest town, Huashuiwan, is famed for its hot springs.
