Call to Confession
Prayer of Confession (Unison) You, who in Christ have assured redemption, hear our confession and forgive our sin. Christ proclaims your goodwill toward all people, yet we pursue vengeance. Those who mourn go uncomforted, as warfare continues in the earth. Captives without number await deliverance while we take freedom for granted. The afflicted await some sign of good news. Amid the ruin of cities and the clamor of protesting voices, we confess our disobedience. Save your people, O God, and cleanse us of our sin, for the sake of your Anointed One, Jesus Christ.

Sermon “The Importance of the Physical Presence of God”
Affirmation We believe in God the Father, infinite in wisdom, power and love, whose mercy is over all his works, and whose will is ever directed to his children’s good. We believe in Jesus Christ, Son of God and Son of man, the gift of the Father’s unfailing grace, the ground of our hope, and the promise of our deliverance from sin and death.
We believe in the Holy Spirit as the divine presence in our lives, whereby we are kept in perpetual remembrance of the truth of Christ, and find strength and help in time of need. We believe that this faith should manifest itself in the service of love as set forth in the example of our blessed Lord, to the end that the kingdom of God may come upon the earth. Amen.

The King’s Brass will perform this Wednesday, January 16th as part of FPC’s 2018-2019 Concert Series at 6:30 p.m. in the Sanctuary. A freewill offering will be taken.
Fellowship Dinners have resumed for 2019. Please join us this Wednesday at 5:30 p.m. in the Fellowship Hall. Bring a covered dish or dessert and gather for food and fellowship. Most importantly, bring your joy! What a gift it is to have time to sit together and get to know one another as fellow Disciples of Christ.

Next Sunday, January 20th after the 11:00 a.m. service, there will be a reception for Grietje Lewis honoring her 90th birthday. Please join us, all are welcome.
Interfaith needs this month are canned fish, canned meat, pasta, pasta sauce and rice. Thank you for placing your donations in the narthex or at the back of Fellowship Hall on Sundays, or by bringing them to the church office during the week.
Pledges Thank you to the many of you who brought your pledges forward on Dedication Sunday. Our pledges for 2019 are significantly less than last year, therefore, significant budget cuts can be expected. If you were away or somehow missed that opportunity, we would still like to hear from you. You may place your pledge in the offering plate today or send it to the office. Receiving pledges is a vital step in our budgeting process. Thank you to all who have already pledged!

Adult Sunday School Classes Great Figures of the New Testament by Amy-Jill Levine. The class meets at 9:30 a.m. in the Conference Room. Nita Williams is the moderator. The Blakely Class studies the Uniform Bible Lessons. The class meets at 9:45 a.m. in Room 2 in the Education Building and is moderated by Jean Morse with others as substitutes.
Adult Weekday Classes All study books are available in the church office at no cost.
Faith Sisters are studying Being Presbyterian in the Bible Belt. Classes meet on Tuesdays at 10:00 a.m. in the parlor. For information about this class, contact Elaine Cox ([email protected]).
