NOTES FROM THE DIRECTOR:

If you missed the Spring Samboree, you missed another great one. We had a great turnout…

close to a thousand people coming and going. I think everyone had a lot of fun. Now that

spring is here, a lot of Chapters have restarted their camping seasons and having a lot of fun

and fellowship. Be safe and have a good time.

The Fall Samboree is already well into the planning stages. We hope you all will join us in

September for Favorite Sports Team. We will be collecting blankets again for Project Linus.

We will also be collecting unwrapped toys for the United States Marine Corps’ Toys-for-Tots

program, and collecting items for the Veterans Hospital.

After Rick and I left the Alabama Samboree, we dropped our motor home off in Columbus to

get a leak repaired. We came home, packed and left for Ft. Lauderdale, FL the next morning,

to attend a Travel Agents Convention and Trade Show. On Friday night, April 24 after class,

about 20 of us went to Carrabba’s and had dinner. We exchanged business cards, laughed and

just had a great time getting to know each other better.

Rick and I decided to walk back to the Convention Center to get his truck and on the way

back I thought he turned around to press the button for us to cross the street and I looked

around and he was on the ground, could not get up and could not talk. I called 911 and we

were rushed to the hospital which was close by. The doctors did a brain scan and came out

and said he had had a stroke and he had a big blood clot on the left side of his brain that

needed to be removed. Dr. Agner immediately prepped for surgery to remove the blood clot

which was successful. Rick was paralyzed on the right side and he still could not speak.

I posted on Facebook Saturday morning at 4:22 am asking for all my prayer partners to

please lift Rick up in prayer for a complete recovery. To make a long story short, God heard

our prayers and He answered our prayers. Please keep the prayers coming for a complete

recovery. His body is completely healed but he will need more Therapy on his speech. He

goes to his first session this Friday morning at the Central Georgia Rehab. Rick feels good,

we have attended two of Katelyn’s ballgames this week, and we plan to attend a play at our

Macon Little Theater Friday night with some of our friends.

Chapter 3 - Sowega Sams

The Sowega Sams Chapter 3 February campout was held at Twin Oaks Campground, Elko, Georgia. Hosts were Dock

and Angie Breeden and Al and Jeanette Miller. On Tuesday as the club arrived, we played Hand and Foot and Play Nine.

We welcomed Ray and Mabel Stiltner (Trudy and Betty’s Brother and wife) and Billy and Joyce Breeden (Dock and

Angie’s Brother and wife) as visitors for the month. When Janice Rouse arrived in the afternoon, she brought a puzzle and

quickly set to putting it together with the help of several club members. Tuesday evening, we had a pancake supper

cooked by Dock and Angie Breeden and Ken Sanders and Al Miller. Wednesday evening, we all enjoyed a homemade

soup supper prepared by the hosts. Homemade corn bread was also served. Thursday, we were joined by Glen and

Carolyn Watson and Katherine Bateman and the entire group enjoyed a meal at Yodders where the group picture was

taken. Thursday evening, more games were played and the puzzle was finished. Several members went to the Carriage

House Restaurant for all you can eat Catfish Supper.

The Sowega Sams Chapter 3 March 2015 campout was held at General Coffee State Park in Douglas, Georgia. Hosts

were Fred and Ann Rossman, Gary and Gwen Smith, Jim and Lynn Hamner and Ed and Barbara McDonald. We had 14

rigs attending with Lamar and Ione Little visiting on Wednesday and Katherine Bateman attending on Thursday. On

Tuesday the host held our fund raiser of a pancake supper with the profits going to the VA Hospital in Dublin, Georgia.

On Wednesday night the hosts served the club with biscuit and sausage gravy. Afterwards, the prayer meeting was held

with J. D.Clark, Assistant Chaplin, doing the devotion. On Thursday, the club went to Aniston’s Restaurant for their

campout meal. The club played Bean Bag Baseball and many games of Hand and Foot and Play Nine. No meeting was

held. Our President, Jack Sangster, reminded the club of the up and coming Samboree.

The Sowega Sams Chapter 3 uses the Samboree in Perry, Georgia as their April Campout. We had 8 rigs present for the

Spring Samboree with David and Helen Harrell visiting. We welcomed Gene and Brenda Ramsey as a new member

joining our club at the Samboree. Our campout meal was held at the Red Lobster in Perry. The club received pins for

receiving the honor of second place in Bean Bag. Baseball competition. We are now looking forward to the Fall Samboree

held in September.

CHAPTER NEWS

Chapter 10 – 10kt Gold Travelin’ Sams

In January, many of us winter in Florida and we got together for lunch at a wonderful seafood restaurant right

on the water. We had a beautiful sunny day and enjoyed the warmth or weather and good friends. The food was

delicious and a good time was had by all. Those of us remaining in Georgia got together for dinner in February.

Again, good food and visiting with friends made it a wonderful evening.

Our next gathering was the Samboree in March. We all had a good time and especially enjoyed playing

“baseball” although we have decided we need to get some practice in before the next gathering so that we can

stand a better chance at winning. We welcomed two new members to our group, Fred and Elaine Sconyers and

John and Barbara Balducci. We are looking forward to spending more time with them at our 2015 campouts.

In April, we visited the Harvest Moon RV Park in Adairsville, GA. We had a pretty soggy weekend but there

were brief glimpses of sun and the clubhouse was dry so we got to enjoy great food and good friends. You can’t

ask for much more than that. We also had a fine meal at the Adairsville Inn and were able to shop till we

dropped at the Calhoun Outlet Mall. All in all a great time was had by everyone.

Chapter 11 - Yosemite Sams

We tried to go camping in February but the weather just would not co-operate. We scheduled a campout and

then the weather decided it had not been cold enough, so it got colder. We finally just decided it was too cold to

do anything.

March is our Samboree campout. We all have a great time and even won some prizes. That always makes it

even better. Even though we don't need anything, it's good time get something for free. Also, the flea market

helps us find all the bargains we just can't pass up. Thanks everyone for sharing their unwanted treasurers.

Chattanooga was our destination for April. What a great place to go camping except that it had rained and

rained and a lot of the campsites were little pools of water and mud bogs. The water dried up some while we

were there but then it rained again. We were joined by Chapter 12, Happy Hearts. We really enjoyed socializing

and eating with them. Just like us, they have some really good cooks. And we know about good cooks, ‘cause

we do love to eat. Days were just about perfect. Nights were just right for a campfire. And we took advantage of

it. Our pot luck dinner was really good, there were lots of different things to eat and no one went hungry. We

cooked breakfast together another morning and had pancakes and lots of goodies to go with them. You know

how we love our pancakes.

Wally's was another breakfast destination; they had a great buffet with anything you could think of to eat. I

know I didn't go away hungry. Several of us took driving lessons, so now we're all professionals. The river boat

ride was so much fun. We had a really nice sandwich buffet with ham, turkey, roast beef and all the fixins.

Some of us found a flea market with all kinds of goodies. Even found an antique mall or two. We didn't stay too

long in the antique mall, just in case someone tried to put a sticker on us. Dinner Saturday night ended up being

whatever we could put together. It was one of the best meals we had. Many thanks to Richard and Judy and

Denny and Cheryl for planning and putting together such a great campout.

We missed everyone that couldn't make it and hope to see you all in May at Alatoona Landing.

Chapter 12 – Happy Hearts Sams

FEBRUARY is our "rodeo month" and our campground was Fair Harbor in Perry. We had a brunch at Cracker Barrel on

Friday morning and enjoyed the rodeo on Friday night. We worked on the Project Linus blankets on Saturday in order to

donate them at the Samboree in March.

MARCH was looking "very green" at the Samboree. Happy Hearts #12 had eleven rigs present. We served ice cream on

Friday afternoon, participated at the flea market on Saturday morning and also had a beanbag baseball team which played

several games. We donated 48 blankets to Project Linus. We went to eat at the Swanson House and the Oil Lamp and

certainly will return to both restaurants.

APRIL was a special campout as the Happy Hearts and Yosemite Sams camped together at Chattanooga, Tennessee. We

camped at Camping World and I believe a good time was had by all. The Aquarium, Ruby Falls, Rock City, and

Cloudland Canyon were favorite places to explore. A riverboat cruise on the Southern Belle was the activity planned by

our hosts for Saturday. Ralph Miller, employee of Camping World, made sure that we had a good time and escorted us to

the Fish House on Friday evening. Hopefully, this will not be our last trip to Chattanooga since there is so much to do

there. Attached are pictures from the Samboree and the April campout.

Chapter 13 – Lucky 13 Sams

Feb 21, 2015 “Pig Out” at “The Garden Patch” in Barnesville, GA - February is traditionally a non-campout month;

we usually eat out instead (“Pig Out”). The campers enjoyed the food, friendly staff, and the atmosphere. All had a great

time, and we look forward to going to The Garden Patch again in the future.

Mar 17-22, 2015 Spring Samboree “Wearing the Green” in Perry, GA - March Campout was held at the Georgia

Samboree. Many arrived early (Tue, Mar 17 and Wed, Mar 18). We also had visitors from our previous campouts

throughout 2014 join the Lucky 13 Sams Chapter at the Samboree. We gained six (6) new rigs, two (2) from other States

(MS and FL), the others live near and/or around the Atlanta area. All enjoyed the activities. Our chapter had door prizes

winners, winners from the Chinese Auction, Samgo, as well as winners from the Cake Walk (apple spiced cake, 14 layer

caramel cake, angel food cake with raspberries. The seminars were great and well attended by our campers; not only the

Health and Fitness Seminars, but some also played in the games. We’ve even discussed attending Samborees in other

States (Mississippi). We made contact with additional future campers and made sure they received copies of our camping

schedule for 2015. All-in-all we all had a great time.

Apr 15-19, 2015 “Twin Oaks RV Park” in Elko, GA - In April, we found ourselves back in the Perry GA area. We

spent some time getting to know some of our new camping members. We continued to teach and/or refresh our new

members with games of Joker, some also learned Shanghi Rummy. We had additional time for exploring the area, the

restaurants, the flea markets and other specialty sites. All had a great time. Four (4) rigs extended the campout (some a

full week) by traveling to Freeport FL on the Gulf of Mexico. We had a great time there enjoying great food and taking

tours around the area as well as in Destin FL.

Chapter 15 - Good Sams with Mini-Sams

It was a great time for all at the Spring Samboree and the Wearin’ of the Green! It gave all of us a chance to get together

and camp, chat, play games, and just plain have fun! From our communal meal; to making Linus Blankets; to decorating

our table; to playing cards, Samgo, and Bean Bag Baseball; to enjoying the Mini-Sams Zone activities; to movie nights...it

never gets old. Love, love, love these families!!

A special “thank you” to the Shelton and Blitch families for getting our Chapter’s flags made for each rig to have!

AWESOME!!!

We can’t wait until our next campout…and the next Samboree in Sept 2015!!! We will be sporting our Favorite Sports

Team!!! Lots of great fun will be had, so invite and bring your children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren and meet

us at the “Mini-Sams Zone!!”

Chapter 22 - Free Wheeling Sams

MARCH 2015: Once again, The Free Wheeling Sams began this year’s camping season at the Georgia Good Sam Club’s

Spring Samboree in Perry, Georgia; members arriving early bird hosted a chili supper on Thursday. Everyone enjoyed

meeting and welcoming first-timers; seeing old friends; the vendors and seminars, food, entertainment, games, flea

market, auctions and wining some of the door prizes; and, WINNING the table decorations contest for The Wearin’ of the

Green theme!

APRIL 2015 (Rivers Edge RV Resort, Murphy NC): Twelve member rigs attended the April 23-25 campout with first-

time guests Dick Latour & Ulrike Weywoda. Meals included roasting hotdogs on an open fire, Rib Country Restaurant’s

world famous fried apple pies; and, attending a barbeque as guests of the campground owner, Gary Nickols. It was a

restful YOYO (you’re on your own) weekend; but, various activities included exploring quilt and antiques shops and the

flea market; visiting the Fields of the Wood Bible Park in Murphy and nearby John C. Campbell Folk School in

Brasstown NC; and, the Mercier Orchards in Blue Ridge GA. We had another nice, relaxing time of fellowship and fun

thanks to our hosts Joe & Carolyn Noble.

CAMPOUT 2015 SCHEDULE: June 11-14 Great Outdoors Campground, Franklin NC; July 23-26 Annual [Grand]

Kidz Campout, Calhoun GA KOA; August 27-30 River Vista, Dillard GA; September 10-13 Georgia Fall Samboree;

October 22-25 McKinney Campground, Acworth GA. Luncheons will be held in November and December.

Chapter 23 – Golden Eagles Sams

The April 2015 Campout Carrabelle, Florida.

Jan and Henry Howell were wagon masters. All arrived on Saturday, staying a week. Sunday brunch at St. James Country

Club and was thoroughly enjoyed by all. In the evening we gathered for hotdogs and bingo. Monday Jan and Henry had

smoked pork loin and we all add the side dishes. Our Golden Eagles are wonderful cooks. Afterwards we enjoyed our

game of Dominoes. Tuesday for lunch we enjoy seafood sandwiches and hamburgers at the country club. Thursday a trip

to Apalachicola for seafood at The Grill. We enjoyed our ride over to the beautiful St. George Island. Two of our He-Men,

Henry and David, caught some large sail catfish and had a lot of fun reeling them in. A wonderful area with beautiful

beaches. A delightful time had by all with great friends.

Chapter 27 – Coastal Sams

Coastal Sams, Chapter 27, returned to Beaver Run near Metter for our February campout. We always enjoy going there

where we are treated so well by owners, Jim and Shelley, and the entire staff, and the atmosphere is always so pleasing.

The weather might have been a bit more cooperative though. Some of the group arrived on Wednesday just in time for the

heavens to open up. Some more arrived on Thursday and Friday, with a bit better weather, but it was still quite cold on

Thursday. Friday warmed up a bit with some sun, and we took a trip to Freeman’s Mill in Statesboro. This was an

interesting afternoon at a very unique place. There are many, many antique tractors and other machinery on the grounds.

The owner, Mr. Stanley Freeman, toured us around a bit and explained many pieces of equipment. These ranged from a

late 1800 steam-powered tractor in the process of restoration, to a steam-powered sawmill that he still uses today. We then

went into the grain mill and had all the equipment and workings explained to us. He must hand build any repair parts he

needs. After the tour we all purchased bags of locally grown - and then ground in his mill - grits, cornmeal and flour.

Friday evening dinner was enjoyed at a local restaurant and some brave souls gathered around a campfire afterwards.

Saturday was a day to stay around the campfire and catch up with everyone’s “doings” in the previous month. Saturday

night we gathered together in the campground kitchen/meeting room for hot soups, breads and desserts. On Sunday

morning we met with other campers for a time of praise and worship before we made our way back home.

Like many of the other chapters, the Spring Samboree served as our March campout. We were happy to have twelve of

our rigs present. We were able to take part in most of the activities, and actually competed, for the first time in quite a

while, in bean bag baseball. We were eliminated in the first round but still had a great time doing it! We always enjoy the

Samborees and truly appreciate all the hard work and planning that our state staff does to make it possible. One of our

attached photos shows our president and vice-president presenting a $100 check from our chapter to the VA hospital.

Regretfully, our April campout, had to be cancelled, but we are looking forward to our next one at Charleston, SC, and

will report on it in the next newsletter.

Chapter 32 – Columbus Round Tuit Sams

Chapter 32, the Columbus Round TUITs, are off to a slow start this year. We had a good turnout at the Samboree in

March. We all enjoyed the weather, seeing old friends, making new friends and contacts and especially the entertainment.

We commend the staff for another great Samboree (Rally). This Samboree had some of the best table decorations and

theme costumes that I have seen. This shows how much the Good Sam’s enjoy this rally.

The April campout was scheduled for the 3

rd weekend, however, the severe weather for that week caused us to postpone

until April 29 – May 3. At the time of this writing, some members are enjoying themselves at Ga. Veterans State Park,

Cordelle, Ga. The chapter is scheduled to camp again May 20 – 24 at Albany Ga.

Chapter 33 - Yargo Sams

Yargo Good Sams does not camp in February.

In March you would have found Yargo at the Samboree. We had one new member attend their first Samboree. We also

had some visitors to attend the Samboree who later joined our chapter, Frank & Terri Stamey. We send out a welcome to

our new members! Way to go Frank & Terri. I think everyone enjoyed the Samboree.

In April, you would have found Yargo at the Great Outdoors RV Resort in Franklin, NC. This park always make you feel

welcome. We didn't have as many as we thought we would have. The park still gave us a cake and had a big bon fire on

Saturday night. They were also very helpful. We had good BBQ on Friday night at a local restaurant. We had a great

Italian supper on Saturday night furnished by our hosts, Jim & Kay Starkey.

Chapter 36 - SAMetro Sams

Wagon Masters Ted and Peggy Misenheimer took the Chapter to Olive Garden in Lithonia for our February 12, 2015

luncheon and graciously hosted the Chapter Meeting at their beautiful home in Stockbridge! We had an excellent turnout

with a total of 23 in attendance, including our honored guests and newest SAMetro Chapter Members, Tony and Nancy

Randolph! We are certainly excited that they have chosen to join our camping family! Bill and I are looking forward to

many years of fun and fellowship with them!

The Spring Samboree (March 19-21, 2015) took us to Perry, GA. We had 8 Chapter rigs in attendance, and the weather

cooperated rather nicely, with the exception of one day! I KNOW everyone had a GREAT time at the Samboree!

Everyone searched through their wardrobe and found their “hidden pot of gold” and we all were “wearin of the green” for

the occasion! A BIG thank you to Wagon Masters Haywood & Anne Fordham for planning our community meals! Good

job! We have two BRAND NEW, SAMetro members, Denis and Deborah Adams, who we met at the Samboree! We are

certainly excited that they have chosen to join our camping family, and we look forward to many years of fun and

fellowship with them!

Wagon Masters Bill and Cheryl Rogers took the Chapter to Pine Mountain RV Resort, Pine Mountain. GA (April 6-10,

2015). We had an exceptional turnout with FOURTEEN Rigs in attendance, including our honored guests and newest

SAMetro Chapter Members, Phil & Lynn Carreker and John & Dianne Fields!! We are certainly excited that they have

chosen to join our happy camping family and we look forward to MANY years of fun and fellowship with them! We were

especially happy to see Sylvia Drumm and Betty Winn at this campout, both are recuperating from recent surgeries, proof

of the power of prayer! The weather cooperated very nicely with us and we happily took advantage of the beautiful

weather and ventured out on each day exploring the City and the surrounding attractions. Everyone had a good time

visiting the sites including Callaway Gardens, Biblical Antiquity Center, Wild Animal Safari, and FDR State Park, just to

name a few! Of course no campout is complete without a corn hole competition and homemade ice cream, thanks to the

Carrekers! I am sure we would ALL agree that the fellowship and camaraderie is what made this trip EXTRA SPECIAL!

The Georgia Good Sam Newsletter is published six times a year; once after each Samboree, and once quarterly in

February, May, August and November. The deadline for submission of chapter information is the 1st of the month of each

quarterly publication. I’ll send a reminder to chapter editors and presidents two-three weeks before the deadline. Please

submit your chapter’s information to Kathy Nadeau at kfned@bellsouth.net, in MSWord format or as text in your email.

Summarizing each submission takes a lot of time, so I will publish whatever text you submit, without a lot of editing.

I appreciate receiving photos of your chapter’s activities. Please be sure that you convert them to jpg format and attach to

your email or you can imbed them in your document or text. I can usually copy and paste whatever you send me. Please

be sure to label all files and photos with your chapter name and number.
