Natural History Society of Sia.In. Volum e III. BANGKOK. Nnmbet· 3.

A LIST OF THE MAMMALS AT PRESENT KNOWN TO INHABIT SIAM.

BY N ILS GYLDENSTOLPE, D. Se.

Onr lo10wlNlge of the Mammalian Fanna of Siam ha::; in creaserl

mnch during t he last few yea r;; and numet·ous additions han-1 been

made since Mr. Stanley S. Flower drew up his list "On th e Mammalia

of Siam and t he Halay Peninsnln." , whi ch was published in t he Pro-

ceed ings of t.he Zoological Society, London, ] 900, pp. 306-379 . Th e compilat ion of a nominal list of the Mammals at present

known to inhabit S iam may, t herefore, be of some use, and no apology

seems to bfl neecl t> d fot· publishing it. Many new furms have recently

been added to the Fauna of S iam, hut much work still re mains to be

done befurt' a complete li st may be dmwn up . However, the author

has tried to do his best to make the list as complete a nd up to date

    as possible.

~ few brief remarks a t·e attached to each species and subspecies,

as to t he ir geographica l dist ribn t ion in t he country, and the divisions used are those clr·awn up and ddined by Mr. C. Boden K loss, though

    with some small arlditions.

No bulky li st of sy nony ms has been added t.o each species, but

some short references are g i \'en as to ll'h ere the orig inal descriptions

nre to btJ found , so that thPy m:ty eas ily be loL>kecl up . The type

localities are also mentioned, but as the older authors ge nemlly cli rl

not definit ely state where th eir new forms were obtained, it has not

been possible to ascertain I he t ,rpe localiti es of some of t he ~pec ies.
