• Foundation for many Office 365 services
• Cloud-based storage – anywhere, anytime access to your files – PC, Mac, browser, mobile, Office desktop apps
• Similar to Novell J: drive, but much more space – 1TB upgradable to 5TB
• Intended for University business files
• You are the owner
OneDrive for Business
• Allows sharing of files and folders
• Useful for one-to-one sharing and small
group/team/project collaboration
• Work on documents (Word, Excel,
PowerPoint, OneNote) together online
• Not convenient for large group sharing
(365 Groups are the solution for that!)

app – Microsoft “web first, mobile first” strategy
• Limited functionality available through Outlook
2016 for PC – Mail and Calendar through client,
One Drive, Notebook are web only
• Can replace distribution list – e-mail sent to a
group will be in group + sent to members
• Members can choose to unsubscribe to e-mails
if they wish

• Much of the same functionality (mail,

• Added One Drive file storage functionality
• One Drive space quota different from
individual - max. 25TB!

• A group has an e-mail address
and displays in the directory
• Allow internal e-mail only, or both
internal/external messages
• Messages sent to group are e-mailed to all

• Ideal for new people joining group – can
view conversation history over time

• Can use used to note important
dates/milestones for the group
• Can send invitations out from the group to
group members
• Does not tie meeting invite to an individual
