July 4 th marks the signing of the Declaration of Inde- pendence in 1776 and each year we celebrate our nation and its values. One of the most important parts of the Declaration of Independence reads: We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness. We should all pause to reflect upon the meaning of that sentence penned by the founders of our coun- try so long ago. The values of our country expressed as life, liberty, and the pursuit of happinessema- nate from God. The founders said we are endowed with these rights. This makes the Apostle Pauls explanation of freedom in the Bible even more astounding. Paul says in Galatians 5: It is for freedom that Christ has set us free. Stand firm, then, and do not let yourselves be burdened again by a yoke of slavery. The values upon which our nation were founded are the values of our faith, emanating from God. Significantly these values call us all to a future deter- mined by our walk with God. We seem to have for- gotten that over the years. While we cherish free- dom, I question how free we really are. We seem to have ignored the words of Paul and made ourselves slaves again. While we may not be subjects of Britain any longer and we may no longer allow the ownership of human beings by other human beings we still allow and even endorse slavery in our country. Many American are slaves to drugs. Others are slaves to power or money. Many of us, even people of faith, are slaves of hatred and discord. Paul and the founders of our country recognized that we were meant to be free. Let us then redouble our efforts to spread freedom far and wide. Perhaps the British arent coming but we are under attack and we should sound the alarm just as Paul Revere did hundreds of years ago. Let us all stand up and pro- claim that freedom means the absence of slavery to everything and everyone but Christ. Perhaps we should see ourselves as a Paul Revere in todays world. We take great pride in our freedom as Americans. July 4th marks the signing of the Declaration of Inde-pendence in 1776 and each year we celebrate our nation and its values. One of the most important parts of the Declaration of Independence reads:

We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal,

that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights,

that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.

We should all pause to reflect upon the meaning of that sentence penned by the founders of our coun-try so long ago. The values of our country expressed as “life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness” ema-nate from God. The founders said we are endowed with these rights. The Stated Session meeting for July will be Sunday, July 8th at 7:30 am.

The Silver Lining Group will be holding their regular monthly meeting on July 17th at 11:30 am at Golden Corral in North Myrtle Beach.

Remember to support the Food Pantry with non-perishable food items. The first Sunday of each month is our day to focus on collections for the Food Pantry.

Children’s Church is available for children K-3rd grade every Sunday after the Children’s Sermon.

Please keep Pastor Tim updated on joys and prayer concerns.

There is a new Women’s Community Bible Study available on Wednesday mornings from 9:00 am -11:30 am. For more information, please contact Ginny Stanley at [email protected]. Flyers are available in the lobby.

Please pray for the Family Life Center Committee as they commit their time and talents to this project. Pastor Tim will be on leave July 1st through July 7th.

The Bible should be at the center of everything we do as a church. Bible Study is, therefore, an integral part of our lives as disciples. In order to make our small group Bible Studies more available we have several sessions, as listed below. Each of our Bible Study groups is different. Please consider attending one of these sessions on a regular basis or let Pastor Tim know if there is another time that would work better for you.

Greeting to all!

I hope everyone is enjoying their summer break so far! Our first ever mission trip has taken place and we are now entering into our first full month of sum-mer vacation! As we move into July, we are presented with many fun, mean-ingful activities for our youth and parents alike! And even though school is out, LFPC is as busy as ever serving our youth, our families and our community!

We have our Upward Baseball and Softball Camp, the return of VBS and our an-nual Christmas in July OCC Packing Party, all coming up this month. And to close out the month, our elementary youth will be attending Camp Pee Dee from July 29th through August 3rd! There's an activity (or two) for everyone! Come out and join the fun!

What does it mean to be free?

Adam and Eve enjoyed complete freedom and innocence in the Garden of Eden. Once their sin caused separation from God, they were no longer free but were enslaved because of their disobedience.

Jesus offers a new freedom. Through his death on the cross he paid all sin debt for each one of us.

“Now the Lord is the spirit, and where the spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom.” 2Corinthians 3:17

The History of

America’s Independence Day

"Taxation without representation!" was the battle cry in America’s 13 Colonies, which

were forced to pay taxes to England's King George III despite having no representation

in the British Parliament. As dissatisfaction grew, British troops were sent in to quell the

early movement toward rebellion. Repeated attempts by the Colonists to resolve the cri-

sis without military conflict proved fruitless.

On June 11, 1776, the Colonies' Second Continental Congress met in Philadelphia and

formed a committee whose express purpose was drafting a document that would formally

sever their ties with Great Britain. The committee included Thomas Jefferson, Benjamin

Franklin, John Adams, Roger Sherman and Robert R. Livingston. Jefferson, who was

considered the strongest and most eloquent writer, crafted the original draft document. A

total of 86 changes were made to his draft and the Continental Congress officially adopt-

ed the final version on July 4, 1776.

The following day, copies of the Declaration of Independence were distributed, and on

July 6, The Pennsylvania Evening Post became the first newspaper to print the extraordi-

nary document. The Declaration of Independence has since become our nation's most

cherished symbol of liberty.
