During the 2018 Fiji National University's (FNU) Graduation, held on 7th December 2018, The Auditor General presented the OAG's Award for Best Postgraduate Auditing Student to the first recipient Mr. Sarwan Kumar. This was an historical occasion for the Office as a sponsor of an award and partner with Fiji National University to strengthen public awareness of the roles and responsibilities of OAG. A three-year Memorandum of Agreement between OAG and FNU was signed in October 2018 on award for the most outstanding postgraduate auditing student. The Executive Leadership Development program workshop was held at Fiji's Warwick Hotel from 30 October – 1 November 2018.This is part of the Twinning Program with Tasmania Audit Office and funded by DFAT. The workshop was attended by the Executive Management comprising of the Auditor-General, Deputy Auditor General and Directors. The workshop aimed at strengthening the Executive Management's leadership skills and covered topics such as Leadership Style and Climate, Emotional Intelligence, Coaching, Managing Performance and Having Difficult Conversations.

The 2018 OAG Retreat and Awards night held at the Inter Continental Fiji Golf and Spa Resort on 01/12/18 was a success. The President of the Social Club, Mr. Dineshwar Prasad said “The turn out for this year’s retreat was good”. Mr. Prasas also stated that staff look forward to annual retreat with the opportunity of taking time out with colleagues and their families. The winners of the awards are as follows: Auditor General Award - Best Group was presented to Financial Audit Group 2 headed by Director Moshin Ali;Best Audit Manager -Mr. Mohamed Firoz Best Senior Auditor - Ms. Alani Nanovu Best Auditor - Mr. Shadab AliBest Graduate Auditor - Ms. Sonam Prasad and Ms. Maritina Cirikisuva. Best Team Player Corporate - Mr. Malbindar Singh.

The Auditor-General Mr. Ajay Nand spoke at the official induction for the new Members of Parliament held at the Fiji's Warwick Hotel, on 6th December 2018. Mr. Nand discussed the specific powers of the Auditor-General as specified in the Constitution and the Audit Act 1969. He also elaborated more on the work of the Office of the Auditor-General whose staff assist the Auditor-General in the performance of his duties, and future developments planned as specified in the OAG's Strategic Plan.Effective from the 2017-2018 financial year, Parliament has approved a one-line budget for the Office allowing necessary flexibility to the Auditor-General to perform the functions required by the Constitution.

The Quality Assurance Team recently attended a workshop in Vanuatu,

funded by the INTOSAI Development Initiative (IDI) in conjunction with the

Pacific Association of Supreme Audit Institutions (PASAI). The workshop’s

aim was to create a pool of quality assurance reviewers for Financial,

Performance and Compliance audits in the PASAI region. Reviews will be

carried out using the ISSAI compliant Quality Assurance Tools, developed

by IDI for the three audit streams. Auditors Aminiasi Koroi and Jane

Motufaga attended the workshop with 15 other participants from the region.

Senior Auditor Meresimani Katuba was one of the 7 facilitators for the

workshop.

The Western office for the Office of the Auditor General will be opening

soon. The office is located at the Gosai

Complex in Namaka, Nadi.There will be 10 staff based at the

new Nadi Office.

Angel TreeThe OAG Women’s Committee organized

a voluntary gift drive for children of inmates held in the Suva Corrections

Facilities .This was part of the Angel Tree initiative by the Prisons Fellowship.

OAG's participation in Angel Tree initiative has been revived after its last participated

in 2014.

The Office of the Auditor General mourned the loss of one of its longest serving staff,

Audit Manager Nunia Michael. Nunia passed away on the 1st of January

2019 and will be greatly missed by her colleagues.

Nunia Michael, has been an employee of the Office of the Auditor General since 1992 and has served the OAG for 26

years.In delivering the Office's eulogy, Director

Moshin Ali said "Nunia was a good supervisor to the officers under her charge, a loving wife, and a devoted mother to her

children. She was also a good friend to many and a great colleague”.

Nunia was laid to rest on the 4th of January, 2019.

May her soul rest in peace.
