Food for People (FFP) was selected as the winner. The start-up took off last year after 23-year-old Atikur Rahman realized that a plentiful amount of food goes to waste every day in various functions and restaurants in Dhaka, which the city’s needy people could do with.

The first edition of Get in the Ring Bangladesh was held on 17th of January 2016 in Dhaka hosted by Daffodil International University. After a 60 days selection round and grooming 8 finalists got the chance to Get in the Ring in front of the audience and the chief guest Dr. Atiur Rahman, Governor of Bangladesh Bank. It was a unique evening in the history of Bangladesh with music, dancing and strong battles between the startups. The Eight finalists, The Bridge, One Roof, Bagher Bachcha, My Doctor, GameXot, Food for People (FFP) and Drisa battled for a spot in the final round to win the title of National Champion, Get in the Ring Bangladesh. The winner secures a ticket to the Regional Final in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia going to be held on 15th of February 2016.The winners of the first four battles – The Bridge, Drisa, My Doctor, and FFP faced against each other in the final battle. The tensions was high during this battle, even the jury deliberated needed extra time to choose a winner. In the end Food for People (FFP) was selected as the winner. The start-up took off last year after 23-year-old Atikur Rahman realized that a plentiful amount of food goes to waste every day in various functions and restaurants in Dhaka, which the city’s needy people could do with.Food for People CEO, Md Atikur Rahman said, “whenever people have excess food they will just inform us through the mobile app and we will then send personnel with logistics to collect the food and to distribute it among the people wo are really hungry.’ He also mentioned that his start-up is to respond the second millennium goal – “zero hunger”

Sabur Khan, Chairman, Board of Trustees, Daffodil International University, said that the international platform Get in the Ring will rapidly change the growth rate of entrepreneurial initiatives of the country. He also mentioned that more than nine hundred start-ups applied for the competition but 36 made the cut. Through two rounds of the competition the number was brought down to eight for the national final. The participants were from University of Dhaka, IBA-DU, North South University, Daffodil International University, Independent University, Bangladesh, BRAC University, BUET, Stamford, AIUB and more.BB Governor Atiur Rahman said all the eight start-ups that made it to the national final deserve finances and investment, so the banks can look at them as profitable projects. He also mentioned in his speech “It is heartening to see that the Get in the Ring puts the spotlight, giving them a podium for creating a global fan base and connecting investors.”

In the presidential address, highlighting the glorious achievement of the university since its inception chairman of the university Md Sabur Khan said: “Students of this university will gain world-class education through education exchange programme with the world’s renowned universities and get the opportunity to excel in the world job market. “Daffodil International University will be the country’s best higher educational institution within the next five years,” he added. He also said, “Most of the graduates of this university have got the job placement in reputable positions at nationally and internationally renowned organisations. Among all DIU graduates 700 became successful entrepreneurs who created job placement for more than 5000 people. He advised the students not to seek job, rather to become entrepreneur.

Daffodil International University started its academic activities with only 68 students in January 24, 2002. Now the number of enrollment has gone above 16000. Due to its quality education and outstanding performance, the university has become one of the top ten private universities of Bangladesh according to the evaluation of the UGC. Daffodil International University’s permanent campus in a green and serene environment provides students and faculties with academic building, administrative blocks, auditorium, residential halls, departmental faculties and an ICT center, football playground, gymnasium, swimming pool, basketball court, shahid minar and tennis court.

Foundation Day Daffodil International University celebrated its

14th Foundation Anniversary on January 30, with great enthusiasm and colorful festivity at Ashulia Permanent Campus. To mark the foundation anniversary, a week-long inter-department sports competition, math Olympiad, cultural competition and IT quiz were arranged. The day-long programme included bus rally, pitha utshab, blood donation programme, discussion, picnic, tree plantation, games and sports, fun events and raffle draw, live concert.Annisul Huq, mayor of Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) graced the occasion as the chief guest while many other renowned personalities, celebrities and dignitaries of the country attended the programme to join the celebration. Md Sabur Khan, chairman of Board of Trustees at Daffodil International University presided over the programme alongside others. The function was addressed by Professor Dr Yousuf M Islam, vice chancellor; Hamidul Haque Khan, treasurer; professor Dr SM Mahbubul Haque Majumder, dean of Faculty of Science and Information Technology; Professor Rafiqul Islam, dean of Faculty of Business and Economics; professor M Shamsul Alam, dean of Faculty of Engineering; professor AMM Hamidur Rahman, dean of Faculty of Humanities and Social Science; professor Dr Ahmed Ismail Mostafa, dean of Faculty of Allied Health Science; and professor Dr Engineer AKM Fazlul Haque. At the programme, Annisul Huq said: “People are equivalent to dreams and sometimes higher than dreams. People dream till they leave the earth and you just started dreaming. To become successful and great, you must dream.” In this regard, he advised the students to read about the lives of great men and good books. Reminiscing his personal experiences he said: “For my success and all the achievements, the main inspiration of my life was my mother.” He advised the students to be obedient and loyal to their parents and teachers. He urged the students to utilise all the facilities and opportunity of time and quality education to build their prospective career.

Grooming Sessions of WE CAN-Daffodil Apps Fellowship’s 2016 held at DIU

Mr. Susanta Kumar Saha, Additional Secretary, Planning and Development, Information and Telecommunication Division (ICT) of the Ministry of Posts, Telecommunication and Information Technology has mentored the Grooming Session-2 of “WE CAN-Daffodil Apps Fellowship 2016” on February 25, 2016 on Thursday. The Second Grooming Session was held from 10am to 5pm on February 25 and

26, 2016. The Fellowship program is organized by WE CAN, Bangladesh and hosted by Daffodil International University. Mr. Susanta motivated the participants to develop their innovation to the mankind. He said, “You should innovate such apps that can use in mankind.” The two days’ session was divided into thematic and technical parts. Mr. Syed Mizanur Rahman, Director of Students’ Affairs of Daffodil International University, Mr. M A Rakib, Development Worker and Researcher, Ms. Jinat AraHaque, National Coordinator of WE CAN, Bangladesh and Suparna Roy, Local Development Expert of Access to Information (a2i) Program moderated the thematic part. The technical part was conducted by Mr. Mahbub Hasan, Senior Android Developer of Coder Trust, Bangladesh, Dr. Touhid Bhuiyan, Head, and Software Engineering Department of Daffodil International University. This App Fellowship program is an app competition on Women Rights Issues. Nine finalist teams have been selected already in the secondary selection on February 24, 2016 based on the participants’ Idea and Apps presentation. The Grand Finale and Apps fair will be held in

March. Among them five teams will be selected as the winners of this Fellowship program. The prize will cost in total of Taka5 lakh.

Thalassemia Prevention & Carrier Detection Campaign” held today on 23rd February, 2016 at the Student Lounge of Daffodil International University (DIU). This campaign is implemented under a project named “Thalassemia Awareness, Prevention & Treatment Supporting Project” organized by Bangladesh Thalassemia Hospital with the financial assistance of Bangladesh Bank. The campaign is supported by Youth Club of Bangladesh and Daffodil International University Voluntary Service Club (DIUVSC). In the opening session Ms. Tania Roksana, Deputy Director (Sustainable Finance Department) of Bangladesh Bank, Mr. Juwel Mojumder, Assistant Director (Sustainable Finance Department) of Bangladesh Bank, Mr. Syed Mizanur Rahman, Director of Students’ Affairs, DIU, Mr. Mahbub

Head of Tourism & Hospitality Management, DIU and Dr. AKM Ekramul Hossain, Chief Operating Officer, Bangladesh Thalassemia Samity were present to make the campaign successful.

In this program students have got awareness about Thalassemia and also got the opportunity of Thalassemia carrier detection test at free of cost. In total 176 blood samples have been collected from this campaign. Students, Faculties and Administrative Members of Daffodil International University spontaneously gave their blood samples for Thalassemia Detection.

EEE Students under the course of Art of Living’ visited ‘Amar Ekushey Boi Mela 2016’

It has been perceived from different evaluation that intellectual ability needs to be exercised in an effective way through scheduled practice and performances. To achieve the ability to celebrate life in the way it is flowing and as a part of the course Engineering Ethics and Art of Living, the students of 11th Batch of EEE visited ‘Ekushey Boi Mela’ recently under the supervision and guidance of Ms. Nujhat Afrin, Senior Lecturer, Department of English. The students visited different book stalls, met with writers and bought some books.

DIU 5th Convocation at a glance

The fifth convocation of Daffodil

International University was held yesterday at its permanent campus in Ashulia, Dhaka.On behalf of People’s Republic of Bangladesh President Md Abdul Hamid, also chancellor of Daffodil International University, Education Minister Nurul Islam Nahid presided over the convocation ceremony and conferred the degrees.His Royal Highness Tuanku Syed Faizuddin Putra Ibni Tuanku Syed Sirajuddin Jamalullail – the Crown Prince of Perlis, Malaysia and chancellor of University Malaysia Perlis – attended the convocation as the event’s speaker. The convocation was also addressed by the university’s Board of Trustees Chairman Md Sabur Khan and Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Yousuf Mahabubul Islam. A total of 3,683 students was conferred graduation and post-

graduation degrees and among them 14 best result oriented graduates were awarded “Gold Medal” in different categories.The chancellors Gold Medal winners are Zulfikar Ansary from Textile Engineering, Fahmida Emran Mumu from MBA and Amena Khatun from Msc in Electronics and Telecommunication Engineering. Brigadier General Datuk Professor Emeritus Dr Kamaruddin Hussain, vice-chancellor of University Malaysia Perlis and an international motivational speaker, conducted a motivational session for the DIU graduates. While addressing the graduates, Nurul Islam Nahid said education is a power when it is applied to bring change in the society. He urged the fresh graduates to spread their light of achieved education towards those who are still behind in education.

Specialized experiences with the audience. The seminar focused on Sabrina Akhter, Senior Lecturer, and Ms. Rozina Akter, Lecturer, were present in the seminar. In his keynote speech, Mr. Shameem showed extensive banking specialized experiences with the audience. The seminar focused on E-Banking & E-Commerce which is generally followed by all banks and non-bank financial institutions of the country. The speaker explained the revolution and importance of E-Banking and E-Commerce in overall financial sector of Bangladesh. Mr. Shameem expressed that how the students, especially who are doing major in Banking and Finance, would can contribute to the banking industry. How they build their career as a high skilled professional banker and what are the benefits and compliments behind to be a banker. He also mentioned that students from Department of Business Administration will get the opportunity to do Internship at The Farmers Bank Ltd. and will get preference in case of employee recruitment.

20 students from DIU got the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award

Twenty students from different departments of Daffodil International University (DIU) have got ‘Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award’ at the Certificate Confer Ceremony. They all have got Bronze Award. Mr. Rizwan Bin Farouq, Chairman of Executive Committee and Mr. K. M. Shariful Huda, Director of Duke of Edinburgh’s Award Foundation, Bangladesh handed over the awards to the awardees at the DIU Auditorium on Sunday evening. Honorable Vice Chancellor of DIU Dr. Yusuf M. Islam presided over the ceremony. Mr. Md. Sabur Khan, Chairman of BoT of DIU was presented as chief guest and Mr. Rizwan Bin Farouq and Mr. K. M. Shariful Huda were the special guests of the function. Syed Mizanur Rahman, Director of Students’ Affairs coordinated the ceremony. Among the Awardees Ms. Nafiza Rahman Mou said, “During my graduation, I have achieved so many awards but it is because of the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award giving foundation-I could institutionalize my achievements as international.”Mr. Md. Sabur Khan congratulated the awardees and said that this award would assist to create healthy competitive environment and positive approach among young generation. Mr. Farouq said, “You have to take challenges from right now. I think this award teach us to take challenges.”Professor A. M. M. Hamidur Rahman, Dean, Faculty of Humanities and Social Science and other students from different departments were also present during the ceremony.

Department of Business Administration, Daffodil International University (DIU) organized a seminar on “Financial System in Bangladesh-Transition to E-Banking & E-Commerce”, on December 05, 2015 (Saturday) at DIU auditorium. The Keynote speaker of the seminar was Mr. A. K. M. Shameem, Additional Managing Director, The Farmers Bank Ltd. and special guest was Mr. Mohammad Ashiqur Rahman, Head of Regional Business, IDLC Finance Limited. The seminar was chaired by Professor Rafiqul Islam, Dean, Faculty of Business and Economics of DIU. The welcome speech was delivered by Mr. Mohammad Masum Iqbal, Associate Professor and Head, Department of Business Administration while Ms. Sabrina Akhter, Senior Lecturer, and Ms. Rozina Akter, Lecturer, were present in the seminar. Ageing Support Forum organized Youth Summit on Ageing-2015

The first Youth Summit on Ageing was held on 21 November 2015 at Shomajsheba Auditorium, Agargaon with the theme “Global Ageing: The Right of the Older Person”. The gala event was organized by Ageing Support Forum, a youth group of age-care and support in Bangladesh. The National Human Rights Commission, Daffodil International University, ISWR Dhaka University were the co-organizer of the event. Iqbal Sobhan Chowdhury, Information Adviser to Honorable Prime Minister inaugurated the program as the chief guest. Kazi Akram Uddin Ahmed Chairman, Standard Bank Limited and Former President of the Federation of Bangladesh Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FBCCI), Md. Sabur Khan, Former President of Dhaka Chamber of Commerce and Industry ( DCCI) & Chairman of Daffodil Group, Gazi Md. Nurul Kabir Director General, Shomajsheba Odhodoptor were present as the special guests.The key-note paper was presented by Kazi Reazul Haque, Full Time Member of National Human Rights

Commission. The session was preside over by Prof. Dr. ASM Atiqur Rahman, Director, Institute of Social Welfare and Research, University of Dhaka. The Summit started with a grand Rally from IDB Bhaban to Shomajsheba Odhidoprtor. Event partners were SBSF, Sir William Beberidge Foundation (SWBF), Resource Integration Centre (RIC) and Bangladesh Association for the Aged and Institute of Geriatric Medicine. It was a daylong event and more than 350 young people from different corners of the country were the participants. There were a Panel session entitled Global Ageing; Role of Youth. The Panel moderated by Dr. Qazi Kholiquzzaman Ahmad, Chairman, Polli Karma Songsthan Foundation (PKSF). Other Panelist were Mr. Md. Nazrul Islam, President, Bangladesh Association for the Aged and Institute of Geriatric Medicine (BAAIGM) Ms. Masuma Khatun Lipa, Derecor of Givensee Group and Oldage rehabitation Centre , Maj. Gen. (Retd) Jiban Kanai Das, Country Director, Sir William Beveridge Foundation Bangladesh Mr. Md. Haseeb Khan, Director, Resource Integration Centre, Dr. Md. Rabiul Islam, Associate Professor, ISWR, University of Dhaks Dr. Md. Hafizuddin Bhuiyan, Associate Professor, ISWR, University of Dhaka Syed Mizanur Rahman Raju, Head, Department of Journalism and Mass Communication of Daffodil International University was the Moderator of the intergenerational panel. The Panel was a live discussion, the representatives of both older and younger generation sat together and found the gap between them. Prof. Dr. Mizanur Rahman, Chairman of National Human Rights Commission was the Chief Guest of the Closing ceremony of the program. A huge number of young people were motivated to start community base age-care and support voluntarily. The Summit was a giant step for the welfare and support of the older persons in the country.

DIU Chairman Md. Sabur Khan joins WITSA Global Trade Committee Meeting Department of Business Administ-

ration organized a seminar on “Financial System in Bangladesh-Transition to E-Banking & E-Commerce”

Daffodil International University (DIU) organized a seminar on “Financial System in Bangladesh-Transition to E-Banking & E-Commerce”, on December 05, 2015 (Saturday) at DIU auditorium. The Keynote speaker of the seminar was Mr. A. K. M. Shameem, Additional Managing Director, The Farmers Bank Ltd. and special guest was Mr. Mohammad Ashiqur Rahman, Head of Regional Business, IDLC Finance Limited. The seminar was chaired by Professor Rafiqul Islam, Dean, Faculty of Business and Economics of DIU. The welcome speech was delivered by Mr. Mohammad Masum Iqbal, Associate Professor and Head, Department of Business Administration while Ms. Sabrina Akhter, Senior Lecturer, and Ms. Rozina Akter, Lecturer, were present in the seminar. In his keynote speech, Mr. Shameem showed extensive banking specialized experiences with the audience. The seminar focused on E-Banking & E-Commerce which is generally followed by all banks and non-bank financial institutions of the country. The speaker explained the revolution and importance of E-Banking and E-Commerce in overall financial sector of Bangladesh. Mr. Shameem expressed that how the students, especially who are doing major in Banking and Finance, would can contribute to the banking industry. How they build their career as a high skilled professional banker and what are the benefits and compliments behind to be a banker. He also mentioned that students from Department of Business Administration will get the opportunity to do Internship at The Farmers Bank Ltd. and will get preference in case of employee recruitment. This was a special announcement for the students of the department. His mesmerizing speech motivated the students a lot.

Mr. Md. Sabur Khan, Chairman, Board of Trustees of Daffodil International University and also the Chairman of Global Trade Committee of World IT Services Alliances (WITSA) joined WITSA Global Trade Committee Meeting hosted by NASSCOM held at Delhi, India from December 04-05, 2015. Mr. R. Chandrasekhor, President, NASSCOM attended the meeting. The meeting was attended by all respected members of the committee. Among the delegates, Deputy President of WITSA, President of ASOCIO; Secretary of WITSA; Vice President of NASSCOM; President of Taiwan Computer Association (CISA) and President of Computer Association of Nepal (CAN) attended the meeting. It created a great opportunity to know Global IT Scenario

and also enjoy the strength of Indian IT Industry. Mr. Md. Sabur Khan handed over a DIU souvenir to Mr. R. Chandrasekhor, President, NASSCOM, where aforesaid dignitaries were present.NASSCOM, a not-for-profit organization funded by the industry, is the industry association for the IT-BPM sector in India, its objective is to build a growth led and sustainable technology and business services sector in the country. Founded in 1978, the World Information Technology and Services Alliance (WITSA) is a leading consortium of ICT industry association members from over 80 countries/economies around the world. WITSA’s members represent more than 90 percent of the world ICT market.

Early in the morning the students, teachers and officers of the university brought out a rally from the academic building and gathered to Central Sheed Minar and placed floral wreaths at the Shahid Minar consequently in favour of Board of Trustees, VC, Faculty Members, students and administration lead by Prof. Rafiqul Islam, Dean, Faculty of Business and Economics of the university and paid

tribute to the martyrs of historic Language movement who sacrificed their lives for the recognition of Bangla as oneof the state language of erstwhile Pakistan in 1952. The rally was also attended by Dr. Md. Milan Khan, Librarian, Dr. Binoy Barman, Director, Daffodil Institute of Language, Mr. Anil Chandra Paul, Director (Uttara Campus), Dr. A B M Kamal Pasha, Head, Department of ESDM, Mr. Ashraful Islam, Special Assistant to Chairman, BoT, Dr. Harun Or Rashid, Deputy Director, Mr. Aktabul Alam, Senior Assistant Controller (Exam), Mr. Abdur Rumman, Senior Assistant Registrar, Mr. Anowar Habib Kazal, Senior Assistant Director ( PR), Mr. Kazi Md. Diljeb Kabir and other high Officials of the university. Beside this, to mark the day All Star Daffodil – a student organization of the university chalked out elaborate program including Rally, Recitation, Flash Mob, Choreographic Dance, Tribal Dance and Drama based on language movement.

signed 20 bilateral Memorandum of Understandings (MOU) and 01 Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) with top graded world renowned Universities including USA, Taiwan, Indonesia, Chile, Cambodia, Russia, Korea & Japan at 14th Asian University Presidents Forum (AUPF) 2015 held from November 05-08, 2015. With the theme “Asian Higher Education Connectivity: Vision, Process and Approach”, this year’s AUPF is hosted by the Guangdong University of Foreign Studies (GDUFS), Guangzhou, China. These separate bilateral agreements aim and form of co-operation on: Exchange students, Exchange Faculty Members, Exchange in Research, Twinning Programmes and Centers of Excellence. Through opportunity to Enjoy lot of international collaboration such as branch campuses, cross-border collaborative arrangements, programs for international students, establishing English medium programs and degrees. International University signed the MOU on behalf of DIU. He was also among the keynote speakers and presented his speech on“Asian Higher Education Connectivity: Vision, Process and Approach”. A two members ’delegation comprising Mr. Md. Sabur Khan, Chairman, Board of Trustees and Mr. Ahemed Shamim Ansary, Special Assistant to Chairman & Assistant Director, DIU participated at 14th Asian University Presidents Forum (AUPF) 2015.200 plus delegates from 80 plus top universities from 30 countries from around joined this great gathering and GDUFS created a delightful environment for university presidents and leaders of various institutions and organizations to interact and exchange collaborations. This year’s AUPF coincides with the 50th Anniversary Celebrations of the University. To cope with the global academic environment Daffodil International University is continuously adopting and upgrading its policies and practices by joining hands with different international organizations.

DIU students formed human chain to raise the Voice for the Elimination of Violence against Women

To raise the Voice for the Elimination of Violence against Women and mark the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women, the Department of Law of DIU formed a human Chain by the students of DIU in front of campus premises on November 25, 2015. They formed this as the whole world is observing the UN International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Woman Ms. Farhana Helal Mehtab, Head, Department of Law A large number of students, along with the faculty members of different department formed this human chain. The teachers of Holy Cross School, Dhaka University Law Alumni and some officials of DIU who possess the same feelings for the womanhood created a remarkable scene to stop violence against women. Ministry of Education, Government of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh has taken different steps to observe Elimination of Violence against Women in this year from November 25, 2015 to December 10, 2015. Being the part of it Department of Law, Daffodil International University has planned to involve the students in different events from 25 November, the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women, to 10 December, Human Rights Day.These two weeks Activism against Gender-Based Violence Campaign is a time to stimulate action to end violence against women and girls in Bangladesh as well as around the world.

The two weeks long activities chalked out at the university started through making Human Chain by the students of Daffodil International University.
