The Christian Call
July 7, 2010
Brothers and Sisters in Christ, This weekend, I will be continuing my series of ser-mons on the numerous parts of our worship service and why we do what we do every Saturday and Sunday. On July 10-11, I will be preaching on the reading of scripture during our Sunday services. The question is: why is read-ing scripture publicly so important during the worship ser-vice? Maybe this seems a trite question for you, but it is good to remind ourselves now and then as to the necessity of scripture not only for private devotions but for public reading as well. One of the best ways to know and remem-
ber scripture is to read it out loud, or at least that has been my experience. Reading aloud, for me, seems to bring the scriptures more to life when you can hear them by merely read-ing them to yourself. Give it a try sometime. When you are alone having your private time with God, read some scripture out loud. Who knows; you might find that scripture viewed a bit differently when it is heard as well as read. My point is, there is a reason we read scrip-ture aloud on Sundays. No matter who reads it and in what style, the power of the Word is magnified when read aloud. Well, that is my opinion anyway. Also, the 2010 Vacation Bible School is set. We will be having it again with the United Methodist Church this year and we at the Christian Church will be hosting. The theme is “Saddle Ridge Ranch” and the dates will be August 9-13 from 6:00 pm - 8:30 pm each eve-ning. Classes and activities will be held from Monday the 9th through Thursday the 12th with all families and friends invited to the closing assembly in the sanctuary on Friday the 13th (!!). This will be a great week and a fun VBS. If you would like to help our, please call Kristen Horine at 542-3411. Thanks to one and all for your contributions for Victoria Sullivan’s expenses for the National Youth Leadership Conference in Boston, July 11-16. The breakfast prepared by Tori and her family was outstanding! Those of you who missed this meal missed out on quite a treat!! Tori will be leaving for Boston on July 11, so let us pray for her safe journey and her safe return home. I know this conference will be a great learning experience for her. Please remember to be safe and sound this summer season as you go about your travels hither and yon. Have a great time and please do not text and drive at the same time! We would like to see you back in one piece, as it were. God bless you all and be careful; God be with you all until we meet again. As always, I am, Your brother in Christ, Larry

This I Know I do not know what troubles I may meet with on my way. I cannot guess what part I shall be called upon to play.
I cannot see the pattern of my future destiny. I cannot tell what purpose God is working out for me.
But this I know - whatever I may have to fight or face. He'll be there at every moment and in every place.
I shall not dread the unmapped road or fear the great unknown. Wherever I may find myself - I shall not be alone.
The need is constant. The gratification is instant.
