In contrast to water supply (i.e. is delivery of water to

final users including abstraction for own final use),

water use refers to water that is actually used by end

users for a specific purpose within a territory, such as

for domestic use, irrigation or industrial processing.

Excludes returned water (19).

Challenges ahead for (European) Water Statistics

Drivers: EU Water Framework Directive, SDS,… Climatic change floods and droughts

Current statistics are incomplete and insufficient!

Response needed: Reliable + adequate water statistics Completeness filling of gaps, additional information Coverage better resolution in time and space Quality improve accuracy & timeliness
