HICKS JOINS TARPONS ON REHAB: The New York Yankees have announced that OF Aaron Hicks is scheduled to begin a rehabilitation assignment with the Tampa Tarpons tonight. Hicks, 29, was placed on the 10-day injured list on March 28 with a strained left lower back. The San Pedro, California native recently returned to action, playing three games in Extended Spring Training last week, May 1-3. Originally selected in the first round (14th overall) by the Minnesota Twins in 2008, Hicks has not played in the Florida State League since 2011, when he batted .242 with five home runs and 38 RBI in 122 games with the Fort Myers Miracle. JOHNNY FULL-STAFF: Earlier today, scheduled starter RHP Clarke Schmidt was placed on the 7-Day Injured List. As a result, the Tarpons will depend on their bullpen in the series-opener against the Blue Jays. RHP Jefry Valdez will get the nod tonight, making his second-career start. The 23-year-old last started a game in his professional baseball debut with the DSL Rockies at DSL Orioles2 on August 20, 2015 (2.0IP, 4H, 5ER, 2BB, 0K, 1HB). DERMIS DELIVERS: Dermis Garcia tallied his eighth home run on Saturday, which proved to be the game-winning run in a 4-3 final. Garcia ranks first in the Florida State League in RBI (26) and Total Bases (58) and second in HRs (8) and SLG (.574). HOMER HAPPY: After Dermis Garcia homered on Saturday night, the Tampa Tarpons ranke second in the Florida State League with 24 homers, trailing the Bradenton Maraduers by one dinger. A dozen different Tarpons have con- tributed to the two-dozen long balls, led by Garcia's eight. ANDÚJAR RETURNS TO NEW YORK: On Saturday, the New York Yankees offically reinstated Miguel Andújar off the 10-Day Injured List in time for the 24-year-old to start at 3B against the Minnesota Twins in an afternoon game at Yankee Stadium. Andújar played in three rehab games with the Tarpons last week, going 3-for-10 with a HR and 4RBI and playing a total of 11 innings at 3B. TULOWITZKI EXITS: On Tuesday, Troy Tulowitzki batted second and started at shortstop in his second rehab game with Tampa. Tulowitzki lined a single to left in the bottom of the first, but was lifted for a pinch-runner. According to reports, the 34-year-old was bothered by tightness in his left calf. Tulowitzki had joined Tampa on Tuesday, batting second as the designated hitter in his first rehab game, and went 1-for-3 (HR, HBP, 2RBI, R) with a two-run homer.
