its heart-sickening record of violence and lawlessness, of indifference to human
suffering; of brutal, fiendish destruction of human life. Everyday testifies to the increase
of insanity, murder, and suicide.” (9T 89) “The calamities by land and sea, the
unsettled state of society, the alarms of war, are portentous. They forecast
approaching events of the greatest magnitude.” (9T 11) “Bold robberies are of
frequent occurrence. Strikes are common. Thefts and murders are committed on
every hand. Men possessed of demons are taking the lives of men, women, and little
children. Men have become infatuated with vice, and every species of evil prevails.”
(9T 11)
The above quotations were written by Mrs Ellen G White more than 100 years ago. A
person who does not know her may think that she is a current news commentator. She
depicted the daily happenings as reported by the daily news. She said, “these are the
signs of the times declare that the coming of Christ is near at hand.” (9T 11)
The theme for 2008 chosen by our world Church is “Signs of Hope”. The signs are not
our hope. They simply point us to the soon coming of our Lord Jesus, THE HOPE. Mrs
Ellen White described “the days in which we live are solemn and important”.
As I worshipped in Kuala Lumpur English Church on the second Sabbath of this year,
the sister who led out in the pastoral prayer made a timely plea to God. She asked
God to help us to wake up and go out, to do something that will make this 2008 a year
of difference. Let us be prepared for the imminent return of our Lord Jesus. Let us
respond to that prayer with a commitment in the beginning of the year, to prepare
ourselves and others for that GREAT DAY.
I hope and pray, in 2008, the existing congregations in our Mission will spread the three-
angel message far and wide by personal testimonies, publication, and using the small
group ministry to cover every part of the cities and towns. Together with the Mission,
let us take every “un-entered” cities and towns for the Lord. “He who testified these
things said, ‘Surely I come quickly’. Amen. Even so, come, Lord Jesus.” (Rev 22:20)

KUALA LUMPUR (KL) ENGLISH CHURCH VACATION BIBLE
SCHOOL (VBS) SHARED BY PR TERRANCE SIM: The KL
English Church had another opportunity to introduce
the gospel to the young ones through the VBS which
was conducted on Nov 26-30, 2007, after the First Part of
the “Kids in the Kitchen - Come Meet Jesus Series”
conducted in Nov 2006. The VBS was led by about 10
teachers, assisted by 6 youth and attended by 40
children. It was divided into 3 main classes: The Junior
Class with 12 students, the Primary Class with 17 students
and the Kindergarten Class with 11 students.
In the daily programme, apart from singing songs
heartily, the children learned about health through
puppet shows and PowerPoint presentations. Bible
lessons were taught through stories and dramas. The
kids enjoyed most were the cooking times. They learned
how to make pizzas with their own designs, delicious
honey bee cookies, tasty jelly with beautiful faces
decorated by fruits and non-diary ice-cream with
natural sweetness.
VBS is an effective way to win the young hearts for
Jesus. Half of the students in our VBS were friends or
students of our members. Some of them are attending
our Sabbath Schools now. Let us pray and work for
these young souls!
VACATION BIBLE SCHOOL (VBS): Pontian Chinese Church conducted a VBS from Nov 19-23, 2007, in the Church.

VISITATION TO THE CARE TAKER HOME FOR THE
ORPHANS SHARED BY MRS RUTH T JOHN: The Women
Ministry Department (WM), Pr T John, Elders and
church members of the Banting Church, together with
Mrs Leong Fai, visited the home of 15 children. Mrs
Leong Fai shared about how ‘Jesus Christ heals the

prepared by the WM. The WM holds weekly gathering
after Sabbath worship. We will always pray for the
Mission workers, PEM Churches, church members,
family members, relatives and friends. God has
listened to our prayers and perform many miracles in

2007 CHRISTMAS EVE PROGRAMME IN KLEBANG CHURCH
SHARED BY PR DAVID KUMAR: Like the Wiseman from
the East, members from both the Klebang and Taiping
Churches came presenting their praise, adoration and
worship to Jesus during Christmas 2007. The youth of
both the Churches planned a very special programme
each. Taiping Church celebrated the Christmas
Sabbath on Dec 22, 2007, where else Klebang Church
celebrated the Christmas Eve on Dec 24, 2007. Three
young ladies, Jeevithra Robert, Daisy Peter and Priya
David, presented short Christmas messages. At the end
of both the programmes, the children received gift
packets reminding them of baby Jesus receiving gifts
from the Wiseman. 2ND KLANG VALLEY YOUTH AND PATHFINDER CAMP
SHARED BY MR JEFFERY JAMES, COMMUNICATION
LEADER OF SUNGAI WAY CHURCH: During the
Chinese New Year holidays, from Feb 7-10, 2008, the
2nd Klang Valley Indian Youth and Pathfinder Camp
was held at Taman Pertanian Bukit Cahaya, Shah
Alam. There were 43 participants, and with nearly
10 visitors each day. Our guest speaker was Pr
James Edward, the Youth Director of PEM. We had
participants from Banting, Kuala Selangor, Shah
Alam, Puchong and Sungai Way Indian Churches.
Sungai Wai Church was the host.
We enjoyed every minute of the outdoor activities
like Camp Cooking (cooking each meal by
ourselves); Jungle Tracking (bitten by leeches and
pricked by thorns!); scary torch-light Night Walks;
Orienteering (using compass); Tent Pitching; Fire
Building; Charobix (Anna as the instructress);
Campfire; ‘Fear Factor’ games; BBQ, etc. We also
completed three pathfinder honours—Camping Skill,
Orienteering and Hiking, taught by MG James
Edward and MG John Peter.
Each of us learnt to be a responsible person with
enough practical lessons to survive an outdoor
camp. We were spiritually awakened by the
devotional thoughts and by the challenge placed
on our shoulders by our guest speaker. We were
awarded with certificates and specially designed
camp pin. Consequently, we also would like to
thank the Mission and the Sungai Way Indian Church
for the subsidies given for the camp expenses;
moreover it was not easy to run the programme with
daily visitors and 43 campers. This camp was indeed
a blessing from God for today’s youth. We hope to
conduct another youth camp next year!

Vision 8 Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding. Proverbs 3:5, NIV.
Christian Ways to Reduce Stress ~ contributed by Mrs Amy Chung
of Skudai Chinese Church ~
1. Pray 2. Go to bed on time. 3. Get up on time so you can start the day unrushed. 4. Say NO to projects that won't fit into your
time schedule, or that will compromise your mental health. 5. Delegate tasks to capable others. 6. Simplify and unclutter your life. 7. Less is more. Although one
is often not enough, two are often too many. 8. Allow extra time to do things
and to get to places. 9. Pace yourself. 10. Take one day at a time. 11. Separate
worries from concerns. 12. Live within your budget; don't use credit cards for
ordinary purchases. 13. Have backups; an extra car key in your wallet. 14. Watch
our tongue. 15. Do something for the Kid in you everyday. 16. Carry a Bible with
you to read while waiting in line. 17. Get enough rest. 18. Eat right. 19. Get
organized so everything has its place. 20. Write down thoughts and inspirations. 21.
Every day, find time to be alone. 22. Having problems? Talk to God on the
spot. 23. Make friends with Godly people. 24. Keep a folder of favourite scriptures on
hand. 25. Remember that the shortest bridge between despair and hope is often a good "Thank you Jesus". 26. Laugh. 27. Laugh some more! 28. Take your work
seriously, but not yourself at all. 29. Sit on your ego. 30. Talk less; listen more. 31. Slow down. 32. Remind yourself that you
are not the general manager of the universe. 33. Every night before going to bed, think of one thing you're grateful for that you've never been grateful for before.
GOD HAS A WAY OF TURNING THINGS AROUND FOR YOU.

OOn Jan 13, the first NEWSTART
programme of the year was held
at ACC in Cheras, Kuala Lumpur.
Six participants attended this
programme, four of whom were
non-SDA; from nine in the
morning until five in the evening
these people enjoyed and
participated in all the activities
that this programme provided.
The programme started with a
lecture on Nutrition given by the
Nutritionist/Dietitian of the
centre, followed by a fitness test
where the participants have to
do a three-minute step test to
know what their fitness level is;
after that an exercise lecture
was given to show the benefits of
exercise.
Then the participants gathered
around for the cooking
demonstration to learn how to
prepare healthy food, the centre
specializes on vegan food
(complete plant-base foods)
and right after that, they finally
get to test the food by enjoying
a complete vegan lunch served
for them. This is the time where
they all were able to share with
each other about themselves
and comment on how much
they were enjoying the
programme.
After lunch, the second part of
the programme started with a
stress test, this was given to them
so they could find out the level of
stress they are having. Then the
lectures continued on Water and
Sunlight conducted by Mrs Jane
Yap, PEM Health Director.
After knowing the benefits of
water, the attendants took part
on the Hydrotherapy
demonstration.
A Stress and Rest lecture was
conducted by a Preventive
Health doctor explaining the
importance of these two and
providing practical tips on how to
reduce the stress level, by this time
the participants already knew
what their stress level was.
And finally an exercise session in
which our very own CHAROBIX
(Community Health Aerobics) is
taught to the participants.
At the end of the whole-day
journey, there was gratefulness on
the faces of these people, some
of them promised to come back
and some of them said they
wanted to share with their friends
all about this NEWSTART
programme, we only hope that
through the health message, we
can reach more and more
people to the feet of the cross,
that is our only desire and
prayer.

PRAYER CIRCLE SHARED BY PR DAVID KUMAR: Klebang
Church’s New Year Eve’s programme was held on
Dec 31, 2007. It was a time to reflect on God’s past
leadings and blessings. Members thanked God for the
new Church building and many other blessings. They
had also decided to set their minds to have an even
closer walk with God in 2008. I led out the programme
with many interesting items such as Bible trivia, info
zone and flash backs. Following these programmes
were the touching special music and testimonies in

IIn order for the LEs to do a better job on selling books,
a group of them gathered up to take good
advantage of the resources that ACC has.
A 2-day training on Chronic Diseases and their
recommended treatments which include heart
diseases, stroke, diabetes and cancer were provided
for them.
The training started with a devotion by Pr Terrance
Sim in which he encouraged the LEs to continue on
this calling to do God’s work as we all want to be
imitators of Jesus on spreading the good news of
salvation to the world.
The first part of the training started with a lecture
about understanding the functions of the Heart
followed by another on Heart Diseases.
Then a nutrition lecture was conducted on the
nutritional recommendations for healthy lifestyle and
treatment for all the above mentioned chronic
diseases.
Cancer and Diabetes were another two topics
discussed, this time by a Preventive Health doctor
who explained what the diseases are and their risk
factors, concluding that most of these risk factors are
related to the lifestyle of our societies nowadays.
During the second day, the functions of the brain
were covered as well as all the important facts on
stroke. Finishing the 2-day journey with a lecture on
exercise, the benefits of it and how to start a regular
exercise programme, all these followed by a
CHAROBIX demonstration where the LEs had the
opportunity to move and sweat.
The food was one of the most “delicious” moments of
the training according to the trainees that were all
asking for the recipes of the food cooked for them at
the centre.
We would like to mention and at the same time
congratulate this team because when the time for a
small quiz came, they were ready to answer all the
questions and they did very well. Keep it up LEs! May
God bless your ministry.

BAPTISMS IN JOHOR BARU SHARED BY PR SAMUEL MONEY: 23 people were baptized in the Johor Baru Church on
Dec 29, 2007, by Dr Richard Sabuin, a professor from the AIIAS, Philippines, after he concluded his series of
evangelistic meetings, with the theme, "The Desire of Ages," at the Megah Ria Company during the Christmas week.
All of these 23 people came from Masai and Kota Masai towns which are situated 15 miles apart in East Malaysia.
Since the coming of Pr Abel Bana and two student missionaries, Randy and Marvin, in Aug 2007, the work at Megah
Ria Company has grown by leaps and bounds. We thank God for the rich harvest of souls. Let us all pray that the
work will continue to progress under the leadership of Pr Abel Bana and the student missionaries.

Blessed are the pure in heart, for they will see God. Matthew 5:8, NIV. Vision 11
GARAGE SALE: Church members of Penang English Church had a garage sale on Dec 23, 2007, at the Church
premises. The sale was to raise medical fund for the needy. Coincidently, Pr Lawrence Randig’s elder son
needed the help. All the church members worked hard helping out and raised RM34,000.00 as at the end of Dec
2007. In conjunction of the fund-raising, Ms Anne Tan conducted a children drawing activity. Gifts were donated
by Ms Tan and her brother.
13TH SABBATH: The Children Class of Penang Chinese Church presented the 13th Sabbath programme on Dec 29.
The children sang songs and recited Bible memory verses.

VISITORS FROM HONG KONG SHARED BY MRS LEONG

AAll glories and honours be to our Father in heaven for
blessing us with 32 children! 8 children are regular
Sabbath School attendees, and 24 children are new
comers of whom 4 came from Ban Foo New Village.
The children enjoyed doing artwork very much that
almost every day, they would ask me the same
question, “Teacher Jenny, are we going to do any
artwork today? What type of artwork are we going
to do?” The artwork is to help the children to have a
better understanding and have a clearer picture on
the Bible Story they have just listened to. (We would
start with song service, followed by Bible story telling
then artwork).
It was indeed a great experience. “God could have
reached His objective in saving sinners without our
aid; but in order for us to develop a character like
Christ’s, we must share in His work. In order to enter
into His joy – the joy of seeing souls redeemed by His
sacrifice – we must participate in His labours for their
redemption.” The Desire of Ages, pg142.
“Time is wasting while we experiment with ‘easier
methods’ for spreading the gospel. God is using the
mass-communication media - television, radio, and
the printed pages. But to get a final commitment to
Christ, the personal contact by a human agent is
usually essential.” Witnessing for Christ, pg 37, Guide
For Witnessing Laymen, General Conference of
Seventh-day Adventists. Please see the 3 pictures on
the right of this page.
The children ‘showing off’ their artwork ‘The Creat ion and the Sabbath’ box. Each of the 5 days, the children were told different Bible stories, the titles are as follows: 1) Creation, 2) Moses Crossed the Red Sea, 3) The Birth of Jesus, 4) 2 Fishes and 5 Loaves, 5) The Crucifixion and The Return of Jesus Christ.

GET INVOLVED WITH GOD'S LOVE BY MS MARY LAURA BILLY OF PETALING JAYA ENGLISH CHURCH:
If you were to ask yourself these questions: 1) Do I
have duties or responsibilities in outreach? 2) Do I
have to be talented to touch people’s lives? 3)
Do I need to be rich to share God’s love with
other people. Well, please think about them
again.
We are considered
fortunate to be living in
Malaysia, a quite
peaceful country. We still
have the freedom to
come to worship God
without disturbances. As
we see the Church’s
plans and programmes, I
can say that there are a lot of opportunities to get
ourselves involved in outreach. For instance, we
have a programme under the Community Service
Department every week. All of us can join in and
experience the ‘JOY’ of visiting different special
homes. The pleasure of meeting different people
with different backgrounds is very fulfilling.
I think all of you should experience the ‘JOY’ I feel
each visitation. So, why wait? Get involved while
you can!
The harvest is truly plentiful, but the labourers are
few (Matt 9:37), be grace in doing good, for God
is graceful to you. Jesus said, He come not to be
served but to serve. Obviously He has shown us
an example to follow. As far as possible, we
would like to get every member involved in
Church projects that help spread the words of
God. Let us do it while time still permits us.
Definition of ‘JOY’: J- JESUS; O- OTHERS &; Y- YOU
May the good Lord bless and keep you!
VEGETARIAN CLASS SHARED BY MRS ROSE CHUNG OF
SKUDAI CHINESE CHURCH: On Nov 4, 2007, the Health
Department organized a vegetarian cooking class
for 60 people, 40 of them were new interests! The ‘chef’
was demonstrating how to fry tasty whole wheat bee
hoon (vermicelli) with very little oil. (Only 2 tablespoon
oil was used for one big wok!)

THANK GOD SHARED BY PR EDWIN JOSEPH: We thank
the Lord for blessing us through thick and thin in
2007. In conjunction with the Church’s thanksgiving
celebration, we also celebrated Mr Chandran’s
(center) birthday on Dec 29, 2007. We ended the
night with singspiration, testimonies and prayers.
KLEBANG CHURCH CAROL SINGING GROUP SHARED BY
PR DAVID KUMAR: They visited 57 families sharing the
good news on the birth of Jesus from Dec 19-20, 2007.
Led by Elder Katherason, the group visited areas
including Sungai Siput (U), Chemor, Ipoh town and
Bercham. They sang, read scriptures and prayed as
‘Santa Claus’ handover yummy candies and gifts to all
the families. As they entered the homes of non-
believers, they prayed that God would some how move
their hearts to accept Jesus. Praise God for this special
ministry.

WHOLE NIGHT PRAYER SHARED BY PR EDWIN JOSEPH: On
Feb 8, the Kulim Indian Church organized a whole night
prayer meeting as to commemorate this year
prayerfully. Although it was the holiday season, the
Church members chose to spend time in prayer for
each other, friends who are suffering, Church building
plans, welfare and needs. We are very thankful the
peaceful time spent together in prayer and meditation
upon God’s words. We also praise the Lord for the
teenagers who joined us. May God bless the soul who
waits upon Him.
TRI-CHURCHES OUTING SHARED BY PR EDWIN
JOSEPH: During Chinese New Year, the three
Penang Indian Churches gathered at Taman
Negara for a spiritual outing. The serene
surrounding reminded us, once again, about
God’s beautiful creation. It was a good break
from our hectic and busy schedules. We had
treasure hunt, debates, Bible quizzes and spiritual
talk. Thank God for giving all of us this opportunity
to worship together.
CHRISTMAS IN THE JOHORE BARU (JB) CHURCHES
SHARED BY PR SAMUEL MONEY: More than 150
people attended a Christmas Dinner hosted by
the JB English Church on Dec 25, 2007. By 7:45pm,
the Church was filled and more visitors and
friends were pouring in. For those who came later,
they had to stand outside the main hall and look
through the windows to get a glimpse of what was
going on inside. First, we watched a film called
‘THE HOLY NIGHT’ on the birth of Christ the Lord in
Bethleham. Following that was a sermonette and
at its close, everyone stood up to receive Jesus by
faith into their hearts through a prayer of reception
led by myself. Then there were two special
numbers from the Children Department of the JB
English Church. We then proceeded to the Youth
Centre which is a short distance from the Church
Hall for our special Christmas vegetarian dinner.
By 10:00pm, we went home on our separate ways
thinking of the night's joyous occasion.
CHURCH DIARY 2008: The Petaling
Jaya English Church would like to
thank all the Pastors and church
members of PEM for their support
towards this 1st-time effort. ALL
proceeds will be channeled to
church-based projects.
CHILDREN DEDICATION SERVICE SHARED BY MS
ANGELINE KHALIB: On Nov 24, 2007, two families
dedicated their precious baby boys to the Lord.
May the Lord guide Mr and Mrs Daniel Deena, and

TThe benefits of water healing or
“hydrotherapy” have been
recognized for thousands of
years. In Europe, where water
therapy is highly popular, there
are numerous of water spas and
health facilities for all types of
“water cures.”
Water healing is one of the
oldest, cheapest and safest
methods for treating many
common ailments. We know
from personal experience that
water is not only used for
cleansing but for making us feel
better. For example, when you
take a hot shower or plop into a
hot bath tub after a tiring day,
the feeling is oh-so-good as
water relieves fatigue and
prevents stiffness.
Ancient civilizations recognized
the healing power of natural hot
and cold springs. Back in the 4th
century BC, the Greek Physician
Hipocrates prescribed bathing
and drinking spring water for its
therapeutic effects. The Romans
built outstanding communal
baths because they believe in
the value of hot springs.
Drinking a minimum of 8 glasses
of water a day will prevent many
diseases such as kidney stones,
bladder stones, headache,
constipation, and all kinds of
infections. As individual ages,
the body’s thirst signal diminishes
and so thirst is not an indication
that you need water; rather the
color of your urine will tell you
whether you are drinking
enough. Drinking right after meal
will interfere with the food
digestion and will cause stomach
bloating and gas; it is
recommended to drink water in
between meals.

1. Full Bath
A warm bath is soothing to the
nerves and helpful for bladder
and urinary problems, mild colds
and low fever. The bath should
last for 20 minutes and water
should be shoulder-deep and
temperature between 90 - 95F.
2. The Footbath
For cold feet - a hot foot bath of
about 15 minutes is helpful. Using
a medium-size pail, pour in hot
water and submerge the
feet into it (make sure that
the person can stand the
heat). This is helpful for bladder,
kidney, throat, and ear
inflammation.
For tired feet - a cold foot bath
is recommended using tap water,
submerge the whole feet over a
period of 15 minutes.
Alternate hot and cold feet or
hands bath - Put feet or hands in
the hot water for one minute
then plunge into the cold for 2
minutes. Then back into the
hot and cold again until a total
of 10 minutes have been spent
doing this ending with a plunge
into the ice water. This stimulates
circulation and is good for
arthritic pains, insomnia,
headache and high blood
pressure.
Remember that the application
of heat is soothing,
easing muscle tension and
relieving pain. Heat also
improves circulation by causing
blood vessel to dilate. Cold can
either be stimulating or
soothing.

1199.. The Law of God: The great principles of God's law are embodied in the Ten Commandments
and exemplified in the life of Christ. They express God's love, will, and purposes concerning human conduct
and relationships and are binding upon all people in every age. These precepts are the basis of God's
covenant with His people and the standard in God's judgment. Through the agency of the Holy Spirit they
point out sin and awaken a sense of need for a Saviour. Salvation is all of grace and not of works, but its
fruitage is obedience to the Commandments. This obedience develops Christian character and results in a
sense of well-being. It is an evidence of our love for the Lord and our concern for our fellow men. The
obedience of faith demonstrates the power of Christ to transform lives, and therefore strengthens Christian
witness. (Ex. 20:1-17; Ps. 40:7, 8; Matt. 22:36-40; Deut. 28:1-14; Matt. 5:17-20; Heb. 8:8-10; John 15:7-10; Eph.
2:8-10; 1 John 5:3; Rom. 8:3, 4; Ps. 19:7-14.)
