President’s Letter Sincethisisthetimeofyearwhenwegivethanksforourblessings–IthoughtthatIwouldtakethetimetogivethanksforsomeoftheblessingsIhaveexperiencedduringmytenureasPresidentoftheassociation.
IamthankfulforacommittedandtalentedBoardofDirectors.LarryThompson,LillianTaylor-Blackmon,GenevieveSampson,MonteSelf,BobPhilo,andDarleneKellnertaketheirresponsibilitiesasBoardmembersseriously.Theyareconstantlylookingforwaysto improve our neighborhood and build our community. It is aprivilegeformetogettoworkwiththemeachmonth.IamthankfulforRobKoopandCMA.Theirdedicationtotheirclientsisapparentineverythingtheydo.Robcontinuallylooksoutforourcommunityandworksdiligentlytoensurethateverydetailistakencareof.Weareblessedtohavesuchaprofessionalmanagerworkingforus.I am thankful for the many residents who have helped out theassociationthisyear.WehavehadrecordnumbersofvolunteersdeliveringCommunityPicnicinvites,wantingtoserveonvariouscommittees,andemailingtoinfo@eldoradohomeowners.orgwithpositivesuggestionsforimprovements.ItisrefreshingtohavesomanypeoplewantingtohelpouttheBoardofDirectors.IamthankfulfortheBlockCaptainswhoeachyearhostNationalNightOutParties.Manyofthemstartplanningthenextyear’spartybeforethisonehasevenended.Theseindividualsputalotoftimeintoorganizingandplanningtheirblockparties.Ourneighborhoodisstrongerandsaferbecauseoftheirefforts.I am thankful for residents who share their passions with thecommunity.Whetheritpickinguptrasharoundthelake,writingacolumnforthenewsletter,orvolunteeringyourtalentstoDJapartyinthepark–youreffortsdonotgounnoticedorunappreciated.Finally,IamthankfulforthepeopleIpasseverydayonthestreetwhileIamwalkingmydogortakingmydaughtertoschool.Somanyofyouhavestoppedtotalkandsharedyourthoughtsaboutthecommunity.Thosewordsarealwaysencouragingtomebecausetheyletmeknowhowdeeplyyoucareaboutourneighborhood.Iamverythankfulfortheopportunitytoserveyouthroughthishomeowners’association.

Twinkle Twinkle Little Lights Eldorado is widely known for extensive, theme-based Holidaylights and decorations. People come from great distances eachyear todrive throughourstreetsandenjoy this tradition. This isanexcitinganduniqueaspectof thecultureandaurathatattractsfamiliestoEldorado.Severalfamilieshaverecentlymovedintoourneighborhoodandarenotfamiliarwiththistradition.Otherfamilieshavebeenparticipating,butarenotentirelyclearontheguidelineswehaveinplacetomaintainourthemeandstructure.AnoverviewwithguidelinesisprovidedbelowasinformationtoallEldoradoresidents;it obviously is not mandatory but definitely encouraged. It is a goal to putuplights/decorationspriortotheendofThanksgivingweekend.CommonareasandsubdivisionentrywayswillbedecoratedbytheAssociationon theweekendprior toThanksgiving. Lights aretobetakendownafterNewYearsDay.Inpastyears,homeownershaveusedthewhiteminiaturelights.Multi-colored,multi-sizedlights,icicles lights and flashing lights have been used as well, consider LED’s toconserverenergy.Eachstreethasa theme(summarizedbelow).Becreativewithyarddecorationsthatsupportyourtheme,Ifyouhaveanyquestionsaboutyourstreet theme,pleasecontactyourblockcaptain,[email protected],orthepropertymanager.

Withtheadditionofourbigbluebins,recyclinginEldoradohas never been easier. Many of us are finding our blue bins filled to capacity before our regular green bins by trash pick up day. We contacted IESI, McKinney’s waste service, to find outhowtomakethemostofourrecyclingeffortsandhere’swhatwelearned:
Any type of paper is accepted--even shredded, stapled,colored,junkmail,magazinesandphonebooksLeaf season’s coming…purchase and use brownbiodegradablebagsyearroundforallyardwaste(offeredatHomeDepot,TrueValue&Wal-mart)andsetthemnexttothetrashforcollectioneachweek.Takelidsoffallbottles.Thelidisrecyclableaswellasthebottle–butneitherwillberecycledifthelidisattachedtothebottle.Nopizzaboxes…toogreasy!NowaxypaperlikemilkcartonsNoStyrofoam-there’snotadealertoacceptitAndhearthis….NO plastic bags! You may see a recycling symbol, butplasticbagsareNOTrecyclableintheCityofMcKinney.Tothedetrimentofourplanet,over100BILLIONplasticbagsareconsumedeachyear in theU.S.ConsiderpurchasingREUSABLEcanvastotesforgroceriesandshopping.

Acommitteeofvolunteers(3–5)isestablishedtojudgethe yards within our community on the first Saturday of themonthfromApril–October(primegrowingseason).Soyouknow,ourcommunityconsistsof726homes.Yardsarejudgedonaestheticsofdesignandcoloraswellasappearance.Noconsiderationwasgiven in thepasttoplantmaterialordroughttoleranceofthelandscape.After last year’s major drought and significant watering restrictions–thiswouldprobablyneedtoberevisitedifwerevamptheprogram.Ourvolunteerswouldaward2winnerswhogetaYOMsign placed in their yard.The winners were selectedalonggeographiclineswithinourassociation(onefromeacharea).Winners also received a $25 gift certificate donated by a localnursery.

HASH BROWN or TATER TOT CASSEROLE1cuponion,diced1/4lb.(1stick)butter,thinlysliced1/8to1/4lb.(1stick)butter,(fortopping–melted)1 (8 oz.) container sour cream or plain yogurt (Low fat workswell)1(8oz.)pkg.sharpcheese(orcheddarorotheryellowcheeseaspreferred)1canCreamofChickensoup(youcansubstituteMushroomorCeleryifpreferredorforVegetarian)donotdilute1(2lb.)bagfrozenhashbrownortatertotpotatoes,thawed1/2 to 1 cup corn flakes
Stir togetherwellthedicedonion,sourcreamoryogurt,gratedcheese, thinlyslicedbutter,andCreamofChickensoup.Add thehashbrownsandmixwell. Spreadthismixtureevenlyinacasseroledish Ifmixtureseemstoothick,youcanaddasmallamountofmilk.Mix ¼ cup of melted butter with crushed corn flakes and sprinkle on top.Bakeat350°F1hour.Makes8to12servings.
