L A T I N A M E R I C A N L O G . . . N R C L O G S . . . T h e c a u s e of the delay in del ivery of s o m e NRC Logs h a s definitely been de te rmined . P a r t of t h e l a s t big mail ing of the or iginal o r d e r s - sen t out a round S e p t e m b e i 10th - got separa ted f r o m the r e s t a n d did not c l e a r the Boston South P o s t a l q n n e x r ight away. We then got hi t with a m a j o r UPS s t r i k e and South posf i l promptly got total ly flooded under with h a t e r i a l usual ly handled by UPS ( the s t r i k e i s s t i l l going on). Some of the t rapped logs have been going out e r r a t i c a l l y and though the P. 0. a s s u r e s u s tha t they ' re catching up a t the Annex, we'll have to a s s u m e tha t s o m e of the m i s s i n g logs a r e n ' t going to s e e the l ight of day f o r some t i m e yet. . . I have sen t l e t t e r s t o a l l the m e m b e r s a f fec ted ; anyone wishing t o have u s send a n emergency r e p l a c e m e n t via F i r s t C l a s s m a i l , p lease do so p e r t h e ins t ruc t ions in t h e l e t t e r . P R I N T I N G . . . After two i s s u e s with m i s e r a b l e pr int ing, things a r e finally getting s t ra igh t - ened out. L a s t i s s u e w a s fine except f o r the cover and that ' l l be taken c a r e of soon when we get a m e t a l plate m a d e up for it . The breakup was the r e s u l t of a new platemaking p r o c e s s ; w h e r e a s the ITEK p la tes used f o r m e r l y did not " s e e 1 ' l ight b lue , the new 3M pla tes a r e essen t ia l ly panchromatic . Since our make-up shee t s have blue m a r g i n s , the p la tes w e r e intentionally underexposed t o p r e v e ~ i t the background f r o m showing. L a s t week we gave ins t ruc t ions t o expose until the copy w a s adequate even if the b o r d e r s showed - thus the l ines on s o m e pages. In a telephone conversat ion e a r l i e r th i s evening, Howard Fountain r e p o r t s tha t the final copy f o r the new Lat in Amer ican L o g should be completed i n a week o r so. T h e m a i n body of tabulated station information will be brought up to date a t the l a s t minute before printing in the Appendix to the Log; station information will run about 75 pages. In addition we will b e including about a dozen pages of spec ia l a r t i c l e s on DX'ing the La t in A m e r i c a n s tat ions, wr i t t en especial ly f o r the LA Log by t h e club's top L A exper t s .
