INTRODUCTION

Dear reader,

We are proud to present to you the very first edition of the Offshore WIND International Business Guide. This reference guide is the first of what will be an annual publication.

Offshore WIND is already known for the quarterly magazine, the daily news site OffshoreWIND.biz, and the annual seminars. With the International Business Guide we now give companies the option to present their profile to the offshore wind industry worldwide, in a format more explicit than the standard advertising options. While all companies are represented in alphabetical order we have also included in the back of the guide an index by category.

You will also find market outlooks from several of the wind energy associations in countries where the offshore wind industry is either nascent or already established.

If you have missed this opportunity in print then check out the www.offshorewind.biz possibilities for your company profile on line!

You can now use the guide to see where the supply chain is, and where your industry is going. Send your feedback to us, or, even better, book the space for your company profile in the Offshore WIND International Business Guide 2013.

EWEAMeeting EWEA

The European Wind Energy Association (EWEA) is the largest and one of the most powerful wind energy networks in the world. It is the voice of the wind industry in Europe and is ideally situated in the heart of the EU quarter in Brussels in close proximity to European decision makers.

EWEA has over 700 members from almost 60 countries, including manufacturers with a leading share of the world wind power market, plus component suppliers, research institutes, national wind and renewables associations, developers, electricity providers, finance and insurance companies and consultants. This combined strength makes EWEA the world’s largest and most powerful wind energy network.

The association’s main activities centre on coordinating international policy and formulating policy positions for the wind industry on key issues, communications, research and analysis both independent and in cooperation with industry and research institutions, and providing support to members. EWEA also organises high profile industry events including the EWEA annual event, the bi-annual offshore conference and workshops in the EU and beyond.

EWEA’s communication activities include producing a large variety of information tools, managing high profile campaigns in support of wind energy, producing a bi-monthly magazine and a blog updated several times a week, and frequent press-related activities all aimed at raising awareness of the benefits of wind energy, dispelling the myths and providing easy access to comprehensive information. Our aim is to communicate that wind energy is a popular, mainstream power technology and a key solution to the emerging energy, climate and jobs crises.

Our overall mission is to ensure that wind energy will be the leading technology in transforming the global energy supply structure towards a truly sustainable energy future based on indigenous, non-polluting and competitive renewable technologies. To do this we use effective communication and engagement in the political decision-making processes to facilitate the national and international policies needed to strengthen

the development of European and global wind energy markets, infrastructure development and improvement of technology.

Wind energy has been growing very strongly in the last ten to fifteen years to the point where it is a mainstream power generating technology. By the end of 2010 there were 84GW of wind energy capacity installed in Europe, providing 5.3% of its electricity, avoiding CO2 equivalent to 35% of the EU’s Kyoto Protocol obligation and representing €12.7 billion of annual investments. While the initial pioneers of wind energy were Denmark, Spain and Germany, more recently a new wave of strong onshore wind energy markets has been emerging, including countries like Romania, Poland and Belgium.

The other major area of growth is of course offshore wind energy, with the most significant additions made last year in the UK – now the global offshore market leader – Denmark and Belgium. The enormous potential of the offshore wind energy is being celebrated, analysed and explored further at EWEA’s OFFSHORE 2011 conference and exhibition. It is the world’s largest offshore wind energy event and will take place from 29 November to 2 December in RAI, Amsterdam. For more information: www.ewea.org/offshore2011

Cumulatively, by the end of 2010 there were 45 wind farms in the waters of nine European countries, totalling 2,946MW. In just the first six months of 2011, four new offshore farms - 101 new turbines – came online, reaching a total of 1,247 turbines with a capacity of 3,294MW in 49 wind farms.

By 2025, EWEA expects offshore capacity to exceed the capacity of wind operating onshore at the end of 2010, and is expected to exceed onshore capacity altogether beyond 2030.

Page 11: Offshore WIND International Business Guide 2012

9

EWEA estimates that by 2020 there will 40GW of offshore wind energy capacity, providing 4% of Europe’s electricity, and that by 2030, there will 150GW offshore, providing 14% of EU electricity demand. Annual investments in offshore wind power are expected to increase from €2.8 billion in 2011 to €10.4 billion in 2020 and to €17.1 billion in 2030.

However, to enable industry to develop the market, governments and EU must ensure a progressive and stable policy framework including a binding 2030 renewable energy target, implementation of a single market in electricity, and actions to ensure the constructions of an offshore grid.

In addition, EWEA has long called for governments to facilitate R&D investment to enable the technology to follow the same cost reductions as onshore wind.

Industry, meanwhile, must work with the private sector to overcome supply chain bottlenecks and with the relevant institutions to deal with skills shortages while the financial sector needs to become more familiar with opportunities and challenges of offshore wind.

AWEAMeeting AWEA

The American Wind Energy Association (AWEA) is the national trade association representing a broad range of entities with a common interest in encouraging the deployment and expansion of wind energy resources in the United States. AWEA has over 2,500 members and advocates which include wind turbine manufacturers, component suppliers, project developers, project owners and operators, financiers, researchers, renewable energy supporters, utilities, marketers, customers, and their advocates.

AWEA is pleased to support the growing momentum within the U.S. offshore wind industry. Offshore wind’s significant job creation potential, proven environmental benefits and close proximity to demand have attracted developers to pursue projects along the East Coast, and in the Gulf of Mexico and the Great Lakes. Continued and expanding commitment from states, the federal government and environmental organizations bolsters the prospects for the offshore wind industry in America.

There were a number of significant offshore wind development milestones in the U.S. in 2011:

• Secretary of the Interior Ken Salazar andSecretary of Energy Steven Chu unveiled a coordinated strategic plan to pursue the deployment of 10 gigawatts (GW) of offshore wind capacity by 2020 and 54 GW by 2030.

• In order to expedite permitting, SecretarySalazar announced the creation of high priority mid-Atlantic Wind Energy Areas off the coasts of New Jersey, Delaware, Maryland and Virginia and issued an initial environment review for these areas.

• SecretarySalazarandBureauofOceanEnergyManagement, Regulation and Enforcement (BOEMRE) Director Michael Bromwich announced the initiation of the process to offer the first commercial offshore wind lease under the “Smart from the Start” Initiative off the coast of Delaware .

• Secretary Salazar announced that BOEMREapproved a Construction and Operations Plan (COP) for Cape Wind.

• Secretary Chu announced the Departmentof Energy’s commitment of $43 million over the next five years to help speed technical innovations, drive down costs, and shorten the timeline for deploying offshore wind energy in the U.S. 41 projects across 20 states were awarded funding.

The U.S. offshore and land-based wind power industries must have stable state and federal policies. The land-based segment of the U.S. wind industry has proven that stable policy can rapidly grow an industry – with domestic manufacturing capabilities increasing 12-fold since 2004.

With over 1,400 attendees and 100 exhibitors, AWEA’s 2011 Offshore WINDPOWER Conference & Exhibition is proof of the growing interest in the U.S. offshore sector. The 2012 Offshore WINDPOWER Conference and Exhibition, on October 9-11 in Virginia Beach, Virginia, is poised to build on the successes of this year’s event, just as companies expect to reach new benchmarks along the way to making the U.S. offshore wind industry a reality. For more information, please visit: www.offshorewindexpo.org

State and federal processes for developing offshore wind in the U.S. are well underway and AWEA is committed to continuing the collaboration among all stakeholders to ensure that the U.S. can realize the many benefits of offshore wind as soon as possible.

BWEOffshore wind is gaining momentum

The German Wind Energy Association (BWE) represents the interests of the German wind energy sector. Its members are turbine manufacturers, suppliers, planners, and service companies, but also a large number of private individuals. Through its broad-based membership the association actively engages in the fields of on - and offshore wind energy.

In Germany, offshore wind farming is still in the early stages of development. Long distances from the coast, deep waters and varying substrates ensure that much new experience is gained. Internationally too, this is entering unchartered waters, and the road ahead is not always free of risk. It is all the more important that Federal government has recently created a credit scheme worth €5 billion to help overcome financing difficulties.

What is the current status of offshore wind energy in Germany? According to the German Wind Energy Institute (DEWI), an installed capacity of about 200MW had been connected to the grid by mid-2011. This is down to three wind farms: the alpha ventus test field, parts of Bard 1 (both in the North Sea), and Baltic 1 in the Baltic Sea.

Even though no further offshore wind farms are likely to be connected this year, the BWE believes that offshore developments are now gaining momentum and more wind farms will follow suit in the years to come. 25 additional offshore wind farms have already secured planning permission in the German North and Baltic Sea, with an additional 60 currently in the approval process.

Despite this large number, due to the difficulties described and the slow start of offshore wind farming in Germany, we do not believe that the

government’s target of 10 gigawatts of installed power can be achieved. We consider a maximum of 7 gigawatts to be realistic by 2020.

A key factor is that onshore wind energy will continue to play a central role in Germany: We assume that a minimum of 45 gigawatts of installed onshore power will be available by 2020. And this makes good sense, since onshore wind energy is much cheaper for consumers and the experience already gained in this area is vital for the rapid phase-out of nuclear power.

Both the on- and offshore sector have enormous impact on Germany as an industrial location, not least as a job motor. About 100,000 people already work in this young sector. Recent studies have concluded that by 2020, up to 160,000 people will be employed in the onshore wind industry alone.

This is complemented by value added in the regions, benefiting in particular those regions that are structurally weak. The maritime sector also profits from the development of offshore wind: entirely new perspectives can open up for shipyards for example, many of which have recently experienced difficulties. Offshore wind development also benefits the German port infrastructure.

DWIAAnniversary:20 years offshore adventure

In 1991 the first offshore wind farm ever seen was established offthe coast of a small Danish island, Lolland. The farm was named Vindeby and became the first milestone in the story about a project that blossomed into a modern business adventure. What started as a philanthropic experiment have now become a global industry and an alternative to fossil fuels. 2011 marks 20 years in an ongoing story about passionate entrepreneurs, innovation and cooperation.

Several offshore wind farms have been established since, securing clean and reliable power to the Danish population. This year we celebrate the 20 years offshore adventure by marking another historic milestone in the story of the offshore industry: Denmark is the first country in the world to reach 25 percent wind in the power system. This wouldn’t have been possible without having some of the world’s largest offshore wind farms like Horns Rev II that alone covers the annual electricity consumption of 200,000 Danish households.

And more offshore wind farms will be established. The Danish government just recently released its targets on renewable energy and CO2 emissions. Wind power is targeted to deliver 50 percent of the total power consumption in Denmark in 2020. Offshore wind will play a major role in the government’s urge to reach that goal.

These targets contain great possibilities but we must also be aware of the challenges. Throughout the recent decades we’ve successfully lowered the cost of energy (CoE) onshore and thereby ensured a price competitive alternative to fossil fuels. But compared to onshore technology, offshore is still in its early stages.

CoE reductions will be the overall challenge for the offshore industry in the next decade, and to meet this challenge, innovative solutions must be developed. In Denmark, the Danish wind industry and the research community have addressed the

main RD&D challenges in an offshore strategy from a joint strategic partnership called ‘Megavind’.

With the offshore strategy, Megavind has a 50% CoE reduction target by 2020 and three main achievements must be realized by industry and research between now and 2020 to reach this target. Firstly, newly built offshore wind farms must be able to produce roughly 25% more electricity per installed MW. Secondly, the capital expenditure including costs per installed MW must be reduced by approximately 40%. And thirdly, the cost of operation and maintenance per installed MW must be reduced to about half. The strategy report describes 7 thematic priorities and lists specific RD&D priorities for each. These are selected by Megavind on the basis of their potential to contribute to the CoE reduction.

On 16-19th of April 2012 EWEA’s Annual Event will be held in Copenhagen. This event includes the industry’s brightest minds who will meet to exchange the latest knowledge on offshore technology in order to find more effective solutions. Furthermore EWEA 2012 is a great opportunity for future business relationships.

I personally encourage you all to participate. By doing that, I’m confident that we’ll set a new offshore milestone in the years to come.

FEE

Founded in 1996, the France Energie Eolienne (FEE) association is currently a group of almost 250 members participating in developing the wind power industry in France. Since 2005 FEE has also represented the wind power part of the Syndicat des Energies Renouvelables (SER).

FEE works for the controlled, balanced progress of wind power in France by intervening with all par-ticipants in the industry. Its mission is to defend the rights and interests of its members. To this end, FEE represents the members at authorities and regulating bodies at local, national, European and regional levels. France Energie Eolienne also pro-motes the benefits of wind energy to the public and the media.

France Energie Eolienne is split into commissions, sub-divided into specific working groups focus-ing on the following topics: Laws and Regulations, Connection, Technical Projects, Offshore, Eco-nomics, Communication, Industry, and Operation. It communicates any useful information to its members (e.g. draft regulation documents), takes part in preparing new laws, decrees and other texts, meets government members and their cabinets, members of parliament, civil servants and jour-nalists, and acts in favor of the development of the wind power industry in France. FEE also works to create and strengthen links between the various French and foreign partners in the wind power in-dustry.

OffshoreFrance is ranked 2nd in Europe regarding the off-shore wind potential, just behind the United King-dom. In 2009, the objective was enacted of 6GW of offshore wind power by 2020. There is so far no offshore wind farm operating in French waters. However, the French Government launched in July

2011 the first tender for a total capacity of 3GW, which is planned to be followed by a second 3GW tender early 2012. This first call concerns five zones facing the North Sea Coast and the Atlantic Coast.

This tender represents a huge opportunity for France. It also has one of the strongest industries considering its industrial know-how and historical experience especially in electrical, aerospace and automotive components, steel, maritime and oil & gas works, and shipyards located on the Atlantic coast, which are now positioned to manufacture steel foundations. France also has important as-sets regarding its port capacities and dimensions (Dunkerque, Cherbourg, Rouen/le Havre, Brest, Nantes Saint-Nazaire and Bordeaux), which are well adapted for the assembly and the storage of wind turbines and for further activities in opera-tion and maintenance. France, given its position can also be an important stakeholder for the equip-ment of offshore wind farms in the UK, which has announced high objectives. For instance Vestas chose the Dunkerque port for the assembly and storage of components of wind turbines for the Thanet offshore wind farm, located in the English waters and in operation since 2010.

The wind power development in Finland has been relatively slow and the installed capacity was still a modest 197 MW by the end of 2010. This modest amount of installed capacity is due to lack of an effective support system mechanism that has hindered the development until now, but the new feed-in-tariff system, implemented in March 2011, will boost the development in Finland. Already by May 2011 the pipeline had reached 6 300 MW.

Approximately half of the capacity under develop-ment today is onshore-projects, the other half off-shore projects. The current feed-in-tariff, 83,5 €/MWh, is not enough for offshore projects. The new government, elected in spring 2011, has started the work to design an investment subsidy for a large demonstration offshore project. This is very good news for the Finnish wind farm developers. With the demonstration project the overall supply chain necessary for a large offshore wind farm can be tested. The demonstration offshore wind farm can also be used to define the correct feed-in-tariff level for offshore projects in Finland.

The conditions where Finnish developers develop their wind farms differ from those of other countries. The Finnish waters are rather shallow, typically the wind farms in Finland are planned in areas where the water depth is between 5 and 20 meters. Also the distance between the shore and the wind farm location is relatively short: only between few hundred meters to 20 kilometres.

The main difference between the Finnish offshore projects and other European offshore projects is the weather condition. In Finland the sea can be frozen for several months a year. This sets high requirements for the foundation and the tower of a turbine. They should be able to resist the force of packed ice that the wind sometimes pushes to-wards the offshore constructions (e.g. lighthouses, beacons). The ice can also sometimes limit the access to the turbine and make the maintenance more difficult than for onshore turbines. All these issues can be managed with thorough planning of the project.

There are currently 11 semi-offshore wind turbines (on artificial islands), one offshore wind turbine and one offshore test foundation and a tower in Finland. The test foundation was installed in summer 2009 few hundred meters outside of Kemi and the offshore turbine in the summer of 2010, a few hundred meters offshore from Pori. The results from both of these sites have been promising: there has been no damage to the test foundation caused by ice during the last two winters. Also the offshore turbine did not suffer from any damage last winter. These results together with the demonstration subsidy for a larger offshore wind farm promised by the Finnish Government provide very encouraging news for the Finnish wind farm developers.

The writer, Anni Mikkonen, is the Managing director of the Finnish Wind Power Association. The Finnish Wind Power Association (FWPA) is a non-governmental organisation that promotes Wind Energy and increases the wind energy knowledge in Finland. FWPA is also active in the public and political discussion concerning the wind energy. The member companies of the as-sociation are from various fields of business. The membership list includes, for example, project de-velopers, turbine manufacturers, consultants and component or material producers. All of these companies share the same point of view concern-ing the wind power: it is a good and beneficial en-ergy production method that should be promoted in Finland. Currently FWPA has got about 200 pri-vate individuals and over 115 company members.

NWEADutch success in offshore wind

The Netherlands Wind Energy Association (NWEA) is the voice of the wind industry, actively promoting the utilisation of wind power in the Netherlands, on land and offshore. The main aim of the organisation is to lobby the national government on behalf of our members and the industry.

Among the members of NWEA are developers and owners of wind farms, manufacturers, construc-tors, research institutes, electricity providers, con-sultants and maintenance companies. NWEA is the initiator of Wind Force 11, the pro-ject that will be displayed at EWEA OFFSHORE 2011 to show that the Dutch offshore wind sector has a lot to offer.

Status and outlook for the NetherlandsThe Netherlands completed one of the first off-shore wind farms in the Dutch sector of the North Sea. Although we were making strong progress, our neighbours have caught up with us in the meantime. Currently there are two wind farms in operation off the Dutch East coast, Egmond aan Zee and Prinses Amaliawindpark, producing a total of 228MW. There are also three projects in various stages of planning in the North East of the Dutch sector, with a total capacity of 700MW. The project developers expect to build two of these pro-jects within two to three years. In 2020 we expect to have 5200MW off offshore wind according to our National Action Program. By the start of October 2011 the Dutch government and the Netherlands Wind Energy Association had jointly signed a Green Deal on offshore wind energy. For further development of wind energy in the North Sea a substantial reduction of the cost is required, reaching a 40% reduction by 2020. Innovation and policy adjustments form an essential part. The Green Deal incorporates

topics from pilot projects to testing new ideas. The Ministry of Economic Affairs, Agriculture & Innovation (EL&I) and the Ministry of Infrastructure & Environment (I&M)have established a round table council with the NWEA as the industry’s representative to make the Green Deal a reality.

The NWEA stresses that offshore wind energy offers great opportunities not only for the Dutch economy but it is also absolutely essential to meet the European renewable energy targets. Therefore the NWEA will form a business coalition of companies and organisations. This coalition will contribute to lower the costs of offshore wind energy by innovation. The current status of this coalition will be presented during the EWEA OFFSHORE 2011 conference in Amsterdam.

With this Green Deal, the government clearly indicates that offshore wind energy is an important of the sustainable policy and it recognises the importance of a strong domestic market to improve the export opportunities for Dutch industry. The current position of the offshore industry will be strengthened and expanded by this Green Deal and by the construction of Dutch offshore wind farms. Following the example of Britain and Germany, this will provide many green jobs in an industry that is typically Dutch by origin.

It is no coincidence that, to date, the Dutch offshore wind industry sector has played a part in every existing offshore wind farm project in Europe, and the NWEA is working to maintain this situation.

RenewableUK

With 487 turbines installed on 14 offshore wind farms, the United Kingdom is currently the world leader in offshore wind. According to the latest research by RenewableUK, published in October 2011 in the organisation’s annual State of the Industry report, the country is set to retain its leadership position, with a total of 8 gigawatts (GW) of capacity installed by 2016, and a further 10 GW by 2020. The industry is confident of achieving the Government’s scenario of 18 GW of offshore wind within the next ten years.

In fact, the country already gets close to 2% of its net electricity consumption from offshore wind, and this share is set to grow to between 17% and 20% in 10 years time. This is a colossal achievement, considering that the first experimental near shore installation in the UK was built in 2001.

Other statistics about the country’s offshore sector are equally impressive. In 2008 RenewableUK published its first headcount of number of employees in the offshore wind industry, which at the time stood at around 800. This year a similar study conducted by Cambridge Econometrics put the number of employees at around 3100.

The conclusion is that the sector not only managed to increase the amount of green electricity it supplied to the grid, but also to create much needed jobs and business benefits to the UK economy. The second part of the study quantifies the potential of the offshore sector to create 47,000 direct and indirect jobs by 2020.

Offshore wind in the UK is a thriving industry, led by dedicated individuals from across a number of traditional and emerging industrial sectors. For instance, to deliver a 180 megawatt (MW), 60 turbine wind farm, it takes around 170 vessels, 24,000 tonnes of steel, and years of planning and preparation.

Beyond the immediate pipeline of projects there are 45 GW of capacity currently at various stages of

development, ready to provide close to 140 TWh of electricity per year (out of a total consumption of 370 TWh). This illustrates the sense of opportunity in the UK’s offshore wind sector.

On 13-14 June next year the world’s offshore wind sector will converge in London for the Global Offshore 2012 conference and exhibition. Held at the EXCEL Arena in the heart of London’s Canary Wharf financial district, it will draw the major offshore players from around the world and offer national pavilions so that each wind energy association can present developments in its own offshore sector. There will be no better place to meet and discuss offshore - we hope to see you there.

An essential link in the offshore wind value chainBefore foundations, wind turbines and cables are in place, an offshore wind project demands the planning skills, process know-how and experience of qualified people who can guarantee the job gets done. Our project teams are adept at pulling together all the pieces of the installation puzzle to ensure that every project comes in safely, on time, and to budget – and we have a ten-year track record to prove it.

Planning down to the smallest detailBefore mobilising a single crew member, we prepare all the necessary approvals, plan the supply chain and carry out a seabed assessment to make

sure it’s stable enough to bear the weight of our jack-ups in action.

Once a project is underway, our jack-ups can provide full-board accommodation for all offshore personnel involved in the installation, making coordination between the various contractors easy.

Optimising our processes from project to projectWe examine and document each of our processes in detail, always looking for ways to make improvements. From project to project, these add up to gains in time and cost that we can pass on to our customers. Because we are so fa-miliar with the seabed conditions, wind turbine components and how long each

operation takes, our risk management is both detailed and reliable.

The A2SEA offshore wind package A2SEA has the experience, know-how and equipment to ensure our customers get an installation package tailored to the specific needs of their offshore wind projects. Working closely with our key customers, we develop solutions that meet the demands of the market and, ultimately, help bring down the cost of clean energy.

to installing the next generation of offshore foundations and turbines efficiently and safely.

Headquartered in Fredericia, Den-mark, A2SEA is never far from the action in northern Europe’s offshore wind industry. And, with additional offices in Germany and the UK, we are easy to contact – and always ready to listen to your business needs.

Hot off the pressA2SEA signs cooperation agreement with the Teekay Corporation to provide marine services for the construction of offshore wind farms.A2SEA signed an MOU Agreement with Teekay Corporation to design, deliver and operate a new generation of transportation and installation vessels. Able to work on more challenging offshore sites in deeper waters, the new vessels will handle the installation of new types of foundations, such as tripods and jackets that are likely to be commonplace in Offshore Wind construction. The vessels will be owned and operated by Teekay while A2SEA provides project management and operational expertise.

1 Baltic Diver Germany provides all services which are required in this growth sector. We have the necessary qualified personnel and equipment at our disposal and work in accordance with international standards. Our maxim - with highest demands to safety and quality: We make impossible possible!

Already well before renewable offshore energy was on everyone’s lips, Baltic Diver Germany belonged to the most distinguished and outstanding companies in its business.Do you remember the “Pallas”- catastrophe near Amrum or the sinking of “Jan Heweliusz” and “Estonia”? Awful moments in the

history of navigation. Performance test for our company. Here we had to prove that we know our craft and can master technologies – such as oil spill removal as well as ROV and diving service.

By now we can look back to projects in 23 countries around the world. Our teams worked from Korea to British Guiana. We installed the cooling wa-ter intake and outfall for an LNG Plant in Yemen- one of our biggest projects, which last over more than 3 years. These demanding projects mentioned here require extensive knowledge and dedication, which our employees have internalised. This all starts with quality and it implies that we only work with well-trained experts under and over

water. State of the art equipment, our own workshop and maintenance de-partment and our own fleet enables us to work independently and to be on call twenty-four-seven. We gained wide experiences in instal-lation and maintenance of offshore wind energy plants. This branch is an important area of operation which we supported with our knowhow from its beginnings. Baltic Diver Germany installed the first offshore research platforms and was engaged in the in-stallation of the first German OWF alpha ventus. We made significant contributions to its installation, have been involved in the necessary nacelle replacements and are now responsible for inspection and maintenance. We’ve

OWF Baltic 1

Page 37: Offshore WIND International Business Guide 2012

35

also been involved in the OWF Baltic 1 project. Our strength lies in UXO clearance. Within the scope of grid connections for offshore wind farms or for the Nord Stream Pipeline, our teams cleared thousands of unexploded ordnances – always without any accident. Anyway, safety plays the central role for us. We work in accordance with international safety standards and guidelines, e.g. IMCA, BSH (Federal Maritime and Hydrographic Agency) and Germanischer Lloyd. In order to pool our strengths and to use common experiences with regards to our ROV service, we established

a close cooperation with Bluestream Offshore (NL). To be prepared for the future we intend the purchase of two special vessels. For 2012 we are preparing the purchase of one 4-point mooring vessel for projects in the Baltic Sea and for 2014 we contemplate the purchase of one DP2 vessel for further North Sea projects.

The constant expansion of our technical base in accordance to international standards goes hand in hand with training and development of our personnel. Only the perfect interaction of team and equipment enables us to deliver top-quality work and to stay one of the strongest and reliable service providers in this business.

Barge MasterSafe motion compensated offshore lifting

The workability during offshore installation activities is strongly influenced by both weather and sea conditions. Mainly the so called “swell” (long waves) has a significant impact on the motions of supply or installation vessels and barge - crane combinations, leading to situations whereby onboard personnel and equipment are at risk. In such instances, work is interrupted leading to extra costs and tight time schedules. Learn how Barge Master can increase your workability and make offshore installation activities safer with a flexible and low cost solution.

TechnologyRoll, pitch and heave have a significant impact on the workability of supply vessels during offshore transport and installation activities. These move-ments often restrict the operational window of supply vessels, as the rela-tive movement between the vessel and a fixed object (jack up barge, platform) exceeds present limits. The implica-tions hereof for both project planning and costs are obvious. In a three dimensional world, six degrees of freedom (DoF) need to be compensated to keep the platform from moving. Three DoF’s are compensated by restraining two translations (Surge and Sway) and one rotation (Yaw) of the vessel or barge by using a dynamic

positioning or a traditional anchor system. The remaining three degrees of freedom, one translation (heave) and two rotations (roll and pitch), are compensated by the Barge Master, a platform driven by 3 hydraulic actuators. By measuring the heave, roll and pitch and controlling the actuators supporting the platform to produce the counteractive motion, the platform is kept in an earth fixed steady position.Scale model tests at the Dutch Maritime research center (MARIN) have shown compensation percentages upward of 95%.

ApplicationsBarge Master is a product with a broad range of applications. Essentially all

marine supply and lifting operations up to 1000 tonnes can be performed safer, quicker and under more adverse sea states when using a Barge Master.Barge Masters can be utilized as:• Motioncompensationplatform

forcargo during vessel to platform transfers

• Motioncompensationplatformsforstandard crawler cranes on flat top barges

Bonn & MeesFloating Sheerlegs

Bonn & Mees Drijvende Bokken BV is a dynamic privately owned company which will be celebrating their 125th anniversary in 2012. Since 1916, the organisation has focussed specially on activities working with floating sheerlegs. Bonn & Mees Drijvende Bokken BV currently owns three sheerlegs - two with 400 and one with 1800 tons lifting capacity, all with advanced technology on board - and two towing vessels.

The focus of the organisation is both inshore and offshore, but since the introduction in service of the 1800t sheerleg Matador 3 in 2002 , there has been much more work in offshore projects. Specifically in the offshore wind energy business.

The company has been involved in numerous projects such as the Q7 project off the coast of IJmuiden, Ithaca at Invergordon, Baltic 1 OWF at Rostock and on the Baltic Sea, the Belwind project off the coast of Zeebrugge, executing load-ins at Flushing for the Greater Gabbard OWF, and for the London Array OWF off Harwich, their sheerlegs loaded transition pieces in Antwerp, and then

crossed over to Harwich, to hoist and install both monopiles and transition pieces for two substations.

The service of Bonn & Mees Drijvende Bokken BV is an excellent and cost-efficient alternative for the larger installation vessels for Near Shore Projects, up to a certain weight.

For Bonn & Mees working with sheerlegs is their core business; their employees have vast experience at their disposal and they are both well trained and competent, on board and in project organisation. Because most of the crew have worked for the company for a long time, the knowledge stays within the organisation.

Bonn & Mees has a Certified Safety System. For now and in the future, Bonn & Mees wants to be, not only a supplier, but moreover a reliable partner with an extremely flexible approach and a great imagination with regard to their customers’ activities.

BOW TerminalBreakbulk and Offshore Wind terminal in VlissingenWithin the port of Vlissingen the new BOW Terminal has been operational since 2010. This terminal, covering an area of 20 Ha, and with a quay length of 340 metres (the BOW quay), is ideally located on the North Sea coast at the mouth of the Westerschelde, with direct access to open sea, without any locks or bridges. Additional to the mentioned BOW quay, an extra quay length of 1.400 metres is available, equiped with five mobile harbour cranes for regular cargo, blades and containers. The availability of permanent heavy lift capacity makes this terminal a perfect location for breakbulk and offshore (wind) projects.

Currently, BOW Terminal is being used during the construction of three major UK-based offshore wind farms.

One of these offshore wind projects is contracted by Statoil, operator for the development phase of Scira (Sheringham Shoal Offshore Windfarm). In relation to this project the MS Oleg Strashnov, owned by Seaway Heavylift, has made regular visits to the BOW terminal project quay.

For the Lincs offshore wind farm project, BOW terminal provided the handling and storage of 75 foundation piles. Unloading river barges and loading North Sea barges on weekly

basis including sea fastening and grout & waste logistics. During the summer of 2011 the BOW terminal has also been involved with the handling of transition pieces and monopiles for the London Array project, in close co-operation with the installation company and EPC contractor. During this project, jack up vessel MPI Adventure berthed at the BOW terminal three times to load more foundations. The BOW terminal has also been used for the loading of transition pieces on North Sea barges and for towing floating out to their destination for this same project.

Additional works on site during these major projects can also be offered inhouse, as well as Port Agency for

the vessel owners. secondary steel work, supplying of transport saddles for barges, vessels and other relevant (unforeseen) activities can be offered on site on 24/7 basis.

Since the start of September, the BOW terminal has been working in close cooperation with GAOH Energy with the handling & storage of equipment for a new planned offshore wind farm, the MORL Offshore Windfarm. Please visit our website to watch this complete unloading operation and storage facility.

CGBuilding renewable energy for Europe

In a recent major offshore engineering project, CG again confirmed its reputation as a leading innovative electrical engineering corporation. The challenge was to deliver a complete 1,100 ton high-voltage substation for the Belwind wind farm, 46 km from Zeebrugge in the North Sea. Belwind is the largest green energy project in Belgium with a total capacity of 330 MW. In spite of several unique challenges, CG with its consortium partners, Fabricom and Iemants, completed the project in one year.

CG was responsible for the engineering and delivery of the high voltage installation, including the transformers and the connection to the ELIA network. The construction of the station was completed inland in Fabricom’s module yard from where it was rolled out and hoisted by crane onto a special vessel to be transported to its destination. The provision of an ‘onshore’ transformer to an offshore wind power facility was a major achievement made possible by CG’s booster technology.

The station has been installed on a monopile in the seabed from where offshore electricity is fed to the Belgian HV grid via an onshore

booster transformer. This procedure significantly lowers the risk of failure while optimising maintenance and providing maximum plant availability.

Recently the focus shifted to the German North Sea where the same consortium was awarded the design, delivery and installation of the high voltage substation platform for the 288 MW Butendiek offshore wind farm. Here the WPD group, a worldwide developer and operator of wind farms, will install 80 turbines of the 3.6 MW class.

CG will design, engineer and supply the high voltage substation, complete with power transformers, high and

medium voltage switchgear and the auxiliary reactors and transformers. The substation will connect the 33 kV wind turbines to the 155 kV national grid. Innovative AC/AC connecting technology, will also be applied here to ensure lower costs at high efficiency levels. Its relatively low weight and minimal maintenance requirements make it the ideal solution for the harsh offshore conditions. Design and manufacturing will take place during 2012, while the installation is planned for 2013. According to Laurent Demortier, CEO & Managing Director of CG, offshore wind energy is expected to grow globally from 1.5 GW in 2010 to 25 GW by 2015. Europe is likely to contribute most of this. Innovative wind turbines, grid connections and foundations will make this sector more competitive to deliver a vast portion of renewable energy for 2020 and beyond.

CG offers its customers end-to-end solutions in the effective use of electrical power, assisting them to break new boundaries in the provision of renewable energy. It focuses mainly on transmission, distribution, smart grid solutions and renewable energy integration, to an international custo-mer base that includes large power utilities and industrial customers across Europe and the Middle East. CG has earned itself a reputation of excellence, employing advanced technology and the highest production standards.

Damen Offshore WindThe best tools at sea

The global offshore wind industry has set a number of ambitious targets. In order to help realize those targets, Damen has developed a number of innovative and cost-reducing solutions. Damen Offshore Wind Vessels aim to support both energy companies and offshore contractors at every stage of an offshore wind farm’s lifecycle: development, installation, operations and maintenance. With the trend for wind farms to be positioned further offshore, Damen has developed vessels that can safely and efficiently transfer crews in significant wave heights of up to 2.5 m.

‘There is no single way to build and operate an offshore wind farm’The Damen Shipyards Group is look-ing closely to all aspects of the offshore processes of a wind farm, from devel-opment and installation to operation and the kind of solutions the company could bring to the market. We have al-ready learned that there is no single way to build and operate an offshore wind farm. Indeed the challenges of scale, water depth and distance from shore are such that the optimal solutions are still being developed.

Vessel typesOur first steps into the offshore wind market are marked by the FCS 2610. But clearly this is not the only vessel type

you would see in the various phases of offshore wind farm development. Typical other vessels are: survey vessels, foundation installation vessels, cable laying vessels, diving support vessels, turbine installation vessels, anchor handlers, workboats, accommodation barges, etc. Remarkably, quite a few of these types have already been built by Damen Shipyards or are presently under construction.

Market trendsWe recognize several interesting mar-ket developments and trends. Utility companies are starting to become ship owners and sometimes operators as well. This is mainly driven by the desire to prevent any logistics bottlenecks by

being able to use their own installation vessels.

There is also a tendency of using a free floating vessel (DP2) for foundation installation instead of a jack-up vessel. Jumbo Offshore has been the pioneer in doing so with its Damen-built DP2 Heavy Lift Vessels. Especially the last trend is focussed on driving down cost and improving efficiency. Various governments have put targets to the industry of reducing cost by 40% before the end of this decade. Those challenges are even more difficult when combined with the tendency that wind farms are being planned and built further and further offshore. This will certainly not drive down the cost.

45

Despite all this, the offshore wind market will be booming. In Europe before the end of 2020 there will be 40GW operational. We still have 36GW of that total amount to go. The USA is planning to realize 54GW by 2030, China is planning for 30GW in 2020 and Korea 23GW by 2030. All in all, there are many opportunities and Damen, already present with a number of proven vessels designs, is evolving towards a complete Damen Offshore Wind product range.

Damen Technical Cooperation (DTC)Our purpose is to contribute to the success of our customers through

requests, competitive pricing and high resale value, short delivery times (we can deliver from stock), vessels, interchangeability of vessels, spares and equipment, reliable performance (due to years of improving on standardized designs and our modular construction approach) and low maintenance costs.

Research Institutes All Damen vessels benefit from thorough R&D. We work alongside world-renowned research institutes, such as Delft University of Technology, Maritime Research Institute Netherlands (MARIN) and the Netherlands Organisation of

the effective use and reliability of our workboats and vessels. The DTC concept enables you to build your Damen Offshore Wind Vessel locally, anywhere in the world. We provide you with all, prefabricated ship components and can, on request, combine this with expert assistance, training and backup, generating a vast transfer of shipbuilding technology.

This is made even easier because of Damen’s focus on standardization, one of our fundamental corporate values. We build a wide variety of standard vessels on our own account and keep them in stock. All designs are worked out to the smallest detail. This results in fast response to customer

Applied Scientific Research (TNO). Our product- and R&D-teams are continuously making our ships faster, quieter and more cost efficient. Years of research have also led to some truly pioneering designs such as the Enlarged Ship Concept, the Sea Axe and recently the Damen E3 concept, which focuses on environmentally friendly vessels.

Damen Shipyards Group

Damen has built over 5,000 vessels worldwide, from central Africa to the smallest island in the Pacific. Up to 150 vessels are delivered annually at one of our 35 owned shipyards or at numerous partner yards. All our yards have Dutch management to uphold the same strict quality norms. In addition, building near the delivery destination leads to significant cost savings and a rapid customer response time.

Even though we are a major international group, we are still a family-owned company with a deep respect for our maritime heritage. We always take a long-term view. We continue to build up our knowledge base to ensure a steady pace of useful technological developments.

Continuity in the relationship with both our customers and our suppliers is of basic importance to us. That´s why a Damen representative is never far away. Our sales managers travel all year round between their clients and Damen’s headquarters in the Netherlands. This facilitates optimum contact between customers, sales and product specialists. Throughout the Damen workforce, you´ll find the dedication to build vessels for and to be of service to our clients to the best of our ability.

During a severe gale in Septem-ber 2011 the ‘MarineCo Shamal’, a Damen FCS 2610 (High Speed Support Vessel), left a UK port for a maintenance job at an off-shore wind farm while other support vessels had to stay in. This was the proof of the pud-ding for this Damen Twin Axe catamaran design, incidentally saving a lot of money.

Deep BV

Since their establishment in 1999 Deep has carved out quite a niche in the offshore wind energy sector. Based in Amsterdam, Deep Hydrography & Geophysics is involved in the entire surveying process from pre-installation through to maintenance services. The company maps everything on, around and under the sea bed three-dimensionally by means of their advanced technology, both offshore on board their dedicated survey vessels, and on shore at their base where the information is processed.

From mapping a complete wind farm site survey to individual installations, from inter array cable route surveys to export cable with land fall surveys, Deep BV have made their mark in this technological fast moving industry. Providing vital strategic information to installation companies and cable layers alike.

Deep BV can provide specialist surveys for object detection. This is rapidly becoming an important sector for offshore wind farm planning. Submerged obstacles can cause tens of thousands of Euro’s damage to trenching equipment and ploughs. Even more important, for the safety of the operators of subsea operations, is

the detection of ammunitions, bombs and mines from two world wars, which are still lying, uncharted, in the North Sea, for example.

For many years North Sea fishermen have trawled up flint spear heads and other items dating from the time when the North Sea was dry land. Deep BV, by using their sensitive equipment for scanning for archaeology from pre-history times, can locate and map these sites to avoid loosing forever this insight into how our ancestors lived.

Deep BV have worked on projects on all sides of the North Sea and in the Baltic Sea, including the Prinses Amaliawindpark and Egmond aan Zee

where they are currently carrying out O&M hydrographic and geophysical surveys. They have also been working at various stages on the following wind farm projects

• GunfleetSands• AlphaVentus• ThorntonBank• Belwind• LondonArray

If it lies under or on the sea bed, in shallow coastal waters or deep sea, Deep BV can locate it, map it, and guide you around it, saving you both time and money in your sub sea operations.

Most hovercraft are used in-shore due to limited efficiency in higher sea states, but larger craft such as the Griffon AP-188 and BHT range are capable of operating effectively in sea state 3 or 4.

With speeds up to 45 knots, accom-modation for 12 or more engineers in transit, a well deck and crane for stores and even a vehicle if necessary, the ad-vantages of the larger craft are clear to see.Bow thrusters and a stable platform ca-pable of some “dampening of the wave effect” through hover height when docking, all add to the effectiveness of this type of operation in turn-around time and greater accessibility.

Hovercrafts are able to transit water, sand, ice mud and other obstacles to conventional ships or work-boats and the infrastructure required is minimal with no requirement for jetty or harbour.

In extreme cold weather, the hovercraft is often the only method of accessing the operation across solid or broken ice, making them invaluable for routine engineering or crew rotation, stores or spares supply, and of course search & rescue.

Similarly, hovercraft support allows wind farm operation in the “transition zone” of inshore tidal areas because mud and sand banks are accessible 24/7

and hover barges are also now used in construction. The Swedish Coast Guard has recently taken delivery of another hovercraft and the Canadian Coastguard has re-cently ordered another addition to its fleet.

Note: A Griffon AP-188 similar to the large crafter shown above is available for lease or sale post full refit from April 2012. www.griffonhoverwork.com

GustoMSC B.V.Playing a key part in offshore wind

Numerous offshore wind farms are scheduled for development in coming years. To date the installation rate in the North Sea is running at a level of about 1 GW per year. The scenarios publicized by the various countries around the North Sea show significant sized offshore wind farms, with a total budgeted capacity of over 40 GW by the year 2020. To achieve this goal, the industry will have to install offshore wind turbines at a faster rate than hitherto. Contractors are taking the first steps towards this goal by ordering new wind turbine installation vessels.

GustoMSC is mainly involved in the supply of proprietary designs and associated equipment such as jacking systems and cranes. Our SEA series are non-propelled jack-up barges and our NG series are self-propelled units with full DP capacity, with a speed of about 10 knots.

With the introduction of the NG-9000C, several step changes have been incorporated into the design. These include the continuous hydraulic jacking systems and the crane-round-the-leg.

Leading offshore wind turbine installation companies like MPI, A2SEA, GeoSea, Fred. Olsen Wind-

carrier, Seajacks and Jack Up Barge BV have chosen our designs based on GustoMSC’s wide experience in this field.

To date over 15 units have been built or are under construction based on the GustoMSC designs and/or equipment. Examples are Neptune, Goliath, JB-114, JB-115, JB-117, Seafox 7, Sea Worker, Seajacks Kraken & Leviathan, Wind Lift I, MPI Adventure & Discovery, Brave Tern & Bold Tern, Seajacks Zaratan and Sea Installer.

In March 2010, a License Agreement was signed with Lamprell Energy Ltd for the first two GustoMSC NG-9000C Wind Turbine Installation vessels to

be built for Fred. Olsen Windcarrier and for the NG-5500C to be built for Seajacks. In August 2010, the second License Agreement for an NG-9000C was signed with COSCO for A2SEA.

The vessels are equipped with the fast continuous hydraulic jacking system. During jacking operations, three jacks are engaged while one jack is in recycle mode. The jacking system achieves a lift speed of 24 m/hr at maximum elevated weight, and the leg handling speed is up to 40 m/hr.

GustoMSC crane-around-the-legThe crane is positioned on top of one of the jackhouses and the leg passes through the crane (hence: crane-around-the-leg). In this manner the 800 ton crane has one obstacle less and useful deck space is freed. Additionally, the crane has been equipped with a long boom achieving a hoisting height of over 100 m above the deck.

In 2012 the units will make their appearance in the North Sea, taking wind turbine installation to the next level.

Today, Holmatro products are all about the principle that only controlled pow-er can be used in an effective way. The company has expressed this vision in the slogan ‘Mastering Power’ and this applies to both business units that to-gether form the Holmatro Group. In-dustrial Equipment is about applying and mastering high pressure power in heavy industrial and marine applica-tions. The main segments are cylinders, pumps and systems for generating and controlling precision power in a broad range of industrial applications, cutters for recycling and demolition works, foundry wedges for the metal industry and also on-board hydraulics meeting the needs of modern and classic yacht sailors. In addition to standard equip-

ment, the industrial branch of Holma-tro has a proven track record with spe-cial projects and service. With Rescue Equipment it is a mat-ter of life and death for fire brigades and rescue organisations to work in a controlled, precise and well-thought-out way with the proper equipment. Holmatro rescue tools are recognised worldwide for their high quality and performance.

Holmatro’s experience and technical knowledge enables it to provide cus-tomers with expert advice with respect to products and their applications. All Holmatro tools are developed, manu-factured and maintained in conformity with the highest quality and reliability

standards. As they must be resistant to the most extreme conditions, Holmatro products are thoroughly tested before they can be used in practice. They must comply with the strictest quality stand-ards of durability, side load, mechanical distortion and overpressure.

Offshore applicationsLast year, Holmatro hydraulic cylinders were used for the installation of the Walney offshore wind farm off the west coast of the United Kingdom. Each phase of the two phase project (2010 and 2011) consists of 51 turbines with a total capacity of 367MW. The project makes a considerable contribution to the domestic UK target of reducing CO2 emissions and it is one of the big-gest offshore wind farms in the world. For meticulously levelling the founda-tions and transition pieces (TP’s) of the turbines, the leading partner in the construction and operational phases of the project opted for Holmatro’s aluminium hydraulic cylinders, pumps and FlowPanel™. They are lightweight, easy to handle and corrosion resistant, which makes them especially suitable for offshore use.

Heavy Lift Cranes Building on the successful operation of the existing Huisman heavy lift equip-ment for the installation of wind tur-bines, Huisman introduced a custom-ized range of wind turbine installation cranes. These customized cranes are a result of many years of design and operational experience and based on the company’s drive to design and de-liver new solutions that add value to the market’s existing technologies. The customized crane range includes ped-estal and ringer cranes for mainly jack-up vessels.

In addition to the low construction weight, small footprint and minor tail swing of the existing Huisman cranes, additional value-adding features are the fully electric variable frequency drive system, the extensive lifting height, the small operational minimum radius and the possibility to install the crane around the leg of the jack-up.

Operational Huisman cranes cur-rently used for wind turbine instal-lation include the A-frames onboard Multipurpose Heavy Lift Vessel Ram-biz, 2,200mt sheerleg Taklift 4, 230mt cranes onboard Seajacks’ Kraken and Leviathan and 900mt cranes onboard Jumbo Offshore’s Javelin. Early 2011, Huisman delivered a 600mt Pedestal Crane for Wind Turbine Installation onboard the MPI Resolution and a 230mt Crane onboard the GMS En-deavour. A 600mt Pedestal Crane for Wind Turbine Installation purposes is currently under construction.

Wind Turbine ShuttleThe Wind Turbine Shuttle, a dynami-cally positioned, fast sailing (14 knots) SWATH-type installation vessel which can carry and install two wind turbines in one piece, is another example of a dedicated offshore wind turbine instal-lation product design. By combining low vessel motions, compensating sys-tems and a mooring system, the wind turbine is kept virtually stationary in relation to the fixed foundation.

The SWATH-type floating vessel pro-vides excellent vessel motions and therefore a large workability. The ves-sel is able to install wind turbines with a maximum significant wave height of 3.5m. This gives the unit a workability

of approximately 80% of the year, in North Sea conditions.

Huisman Service OrganizationA dedicated worldwide operating service team of skilled professionals is on stand-by to provide advise, training and service support before, during and after installation and delivery. Our service network is managed from Huisman in The Netherlands but our local service offices in Houston (USA) Rio de Janeiro (Brazil) and Singapore are on stand-by to provide all service support on location as well as by remote access.

IHC Hydrohammer®

The technology innovator

IHC Hydrohammer® designs, builds and supplies hydraulic piling hammers, for on- and offshore use and is known throughout the world for its innovative approach. This innovative approach is not simply confined to the hammers, but also extends to entirely new piling techniques, foundation equipment and hammer accessories, with a view to making pile driving more efficient, more controllable, less noisy and more widely usable. IHC Hydrohammer® is part of the IHC Merwede Group of companies.

The IHC Hydrohammer® There are no compromises in the design of the hydraulic Hydrohammer® where reliability, efficiency, possibilities and safety are the focus. A design forged from billions of hammer strikes, both onshore and offshore.

The Hydrohammer® combines a solid one-piece ram with a fully enclosed hammer housing. The result is an elegant yet robust and reliable hammer. IHC Hydrohammer®’s unique design makes it suitable for all types of piling and foundation work, ranging from piling impact sensitive concrete piles, to piling large and long offshore caisson piles. The hammer can even be used to break rock (also under water).

More reliability Solid piece Ram The ram weight, ram pin and piston rod are forged in one piece, which means there is no risk of the parts separating. Materials The forged alloy steel guar-antee durability. This also allows un-limited piling on steel using full power. Shock absorber The robust and tested construction and the materials used sustainably resist the reaction forces from the pile.

Bearings The ram is guided above and below by lubricated bearings. This re-duces ram wear to a minimum. Limited parts The use of a limited number of parts leads to lower risk of failures and fewer spare parts.

More possibilities Enclosed hammer housing The energy supplied by the Hydrohammer® is the same both above and below water.Tools The hammers can be equipped with rock chisels, noise bellows and sheet piling and pile guides in all sizes.Sleeve design Due to smart anvil de-sign, the sleeves can be adjusted to suit any pile diameter. Free hanging The Hydrohammer® can operate leader guided and free hanging (fitted with a pile sleeve). Acceleration energy In addition to pil-ing vertically, the Hydrohammer® can also operate at full power horizontally and at any other inclination. Thanks to the acceleration energy, it has a relative-ly low weight and a high peak force to

Page 63: Offshore WIND International Business Guide 2012

61

overcome soil resistance. Forged pieces Due to the high-quality forged and alloyed parts, the Hydro-hammer® is suitable for driving steel on steel.

More efficiency Hammer control All hydraulic functions of the Hydrohammer® are electronically controlled and monitored. This contributes to allowing the optimal blow energy to be set. Modular structure All parts that could possibly need attention between major services are easily accessible from the outside.

Oil flow Due to the accelerated ram weight, it is possible to realise a high blow count at a relatively low oil flow. Real time monitoring The piling data are directly printed on site or stored in a data logger. This allows a detailed analysis of the driving operation to be conducted.

Increased safety Safety provisions Signals from the hammer sensors are centrally processed in the control box. If the length of the ram stroke is too long or too short, the hammer is stopped. If the hammer/pile positioning is incorrect, the hammer cannot be started. Environmentally friendly The Hydrohammer® can use bio-

degradable oil. Noise reduction is optimised by fitting the Hydrohammer® with the available noise reduction packages.

Expertise and skill are central to IHC Hydrohammer® For decades now, we have been successfully developing the own production of our piling hammers. If necessary, we utilise the additional knowhow of other IHC Merwede units. Our own production ensures an ample rental fleet which makes the desired hammers rapidly available. We also have sufficient parts in stock.

Service is our second nature IHC Hydrohammer® does not limit itself to supplying technological prod-ucts. Our long experience at very dif-ferent locations and under many differ-ent conditions means we can provide or support project and logistics man-agement with high-quality service.

This is implemented globally by various, Regional IHC Merwede Organisations (RIOs) that provide high-quality service and complete support for complicated projects both onshore and offshore. We provide comprehensive pile driving technology. If so desired, this starts with geotechnological advice. Furthermore, we have a global network

of IHC Hydrohammer®-trained service engineers and a wide range of common spare parts. If operational support is desired for a project we can provide it or mediate. IHC Hydrohammer® provides training for the operation, maintenance, malfunction

Thinking possibilitiesIHC Hydrohammer® is the global standard in the field of pile driving hammers. Why? Because we think in solutions. After all, in practice, every problem on the market demands its own, innovative solution. It is in our nature to think in opportunities. Our years of experience, our empirical ap-proach and – in particular – our inten-sive cooperation with many onshore and offshore clients means we always see room for improvement. For exam-ple, in recent decades we have broad-ened our horizons. On the one hand, by not compromising and only being satisfied with the best. On the other, by entering into joint ventures and part-nerships with users. Elevating each other, creating opportunities and subsequently capitalising on them.

Success starts with the right attitude. It makes you think in solutions.

Synergy / IHC Merwede GroupThe IHC Merwede Group consists of the clusters Dredging & Mining, Technology & Services and Offshore & Marine; each of which operates both individually and in a complementary fashion. For example, alongside product-specific expertise, there is also a high level of synergy between related IHC Merwede units. This distinguishes IHC Hydrohammer® from the competition.

If necessary or so desired, we can offer more than just a technological product. We are perfectly equipped to provide the (im)material preconditions for the entire pile driving process on the basis of a single professional vision. This is expressed in operational activities, but also in research and development, service and training. The IHC Hydrohammer® is attuned for use in combination with equipment supplied by other IHC Merwede units (including IHC Sea Steel, IHC Fundex Equipment, IHC Handling Systems, IHC Offshore Systems).

LD TravOceanSubmarine Cable Trenching

LD TravOcean was incorporated in Marseilles in 1977 to meet the local and international demand for marine engineering works. In 1978, the French National power utility EDF contracted LD TravOcean for the installation of 2 pairs of subsea power cables, each 45 km long, between France and England («IFA 2000» link). This project was for LD TravOcean the first of a long series within the power cable industry.

In parallel, for the last 30 years, its position was progressively diversified in the offshore oil and gas industry and in the sector of submarine telecommunication cable. In late 1998, LD TravOcean became a 100% subsidiary of Louis Dreyfus Armateurs group, a large Company specialized in logistics and dry bulk transportation, offshore services (such as ocean towage, heavy lift transport and salvage) as well as in freight and passengers lines. Today, LD TravOcean pools the know-how and expertise of 45 full-time employees. Main offices are located in Marseilles, France. Other facilities are the European operational base in Dunkirk (2,500 m² covered space in the harbour zone, with direct access to

the sea), the Middle East base in Abu Dhabi and offices in Kazakhstan.

Over the years, LD TravOcean accrued considerable know-how in the laying and protection of submarine cables, with acknowledged expertise both in the design of burial systems (trenchers, ROVs, jetting vehicles, fixed and vibrating ploughshares) and in their worldwide operation out at sea. Diversification into wind farm cables has therefore been a logical next step.

LD TravOcean had its first experience of burying inter-turbine cables last year with the 51 cables of the Walney 1 Project in the Irish sea. This experience has since then been renewed and

comforted with the completion of the neighbouring Ormonde project (32 infield cables) and the ongoing burial works on the Walney 2 project (51 infield cables). All in all, more than 80km of cables were successfully buried at 2 meters below seabed.

LD TravOcean will reiterate this performance next year with 140km of trenching works and the burial of 111 infield cables on the Anholt project in Denmark.

MARINMaritime Research Institute Netherlands

For almost 80 years, MARIN has been contributing to the development of safe and economic ships and offshore structures as independent advisor in hydrodynamic and nautical research. This is done through model tests, simulations, desk studies, full-scale measurements, safety studies and training. We have seven facilities and several bridge simulators available to solve specific design and research issues. We accumulate know-how, expertise and experience to provide innovative tools and solutions for the maritime, offshore and nautical industry. At the same time MARIN sees it as its responsibility to contribute to the development of renewable energy offshore from waves, tides and wind.

With the growth in renewable energy, there is an increasing focus on offshore wind. MARIN too, is actively partici-pating in the development of the off-shore wind energy sector. It launched RENT (Renewable Energy Team), a MARIN-wide team of specialists cov-ering all the aspects needed to make offshore renewable energy a success.

The RENT team is involved in the hy-drodynamic design of fixed and float-ing offshore wind turbines for which the challenges are very similar to those of the offshore industry: safe and eco-nomic design, production, transporta-tion, installation, maintenance, repair and removal. To improve its services for the design and development of

these offshore wind turbines, MARIN developed the following new ‘tools’:• High-quality wind setup for model

tests with  floating wind turbines in the Offshore basin, as the genera-tion  of a high quality wind field is of great importance   for the correct coupling between the aerodynamic and hydrodynamic behaviour of floating wind turbines.

• Timedomainnumerical calculationmodel. MARIN and the Dutch Re-search Centre on Energy (ECN) have coupled aNySIM with an aerody-namic tool of ECN called PHATAS. This new time domain numerical calculation model integrates all loads acting on the entire wind turbine, in-cluding rotor loads.

At the end of 2010 MARIN performed a series of pilot model tests, with a spe-cial model of an offshore wind turbine with realistic flexibility tested in ex-treme seas. The tests confirmed that breaking waves can induce significant oscillations and accelerations in the turbine, resulting in extreme fatigue loads on the foundation, tower, turbine blades, shaft, gearbox and generator.

To further study this subject MARIN, together with ECN and other part-ners, will start up a Joint Industry Pro-ject ‘Wave impacts on Fixed Turbines’ (WiFi) to optimize the development of offshore wind turbines.

MOTS 500 compensates ship movements in all directions. The aerial lift cage is kept steady in front of the boat landing in the case of vertical ship movements of up to 3.2 metres at the place of installation of the MOTS, enabling safe transfer from the ship to stationary offshore structures.

On account of its low weight the MOTS 500 can be used even on the bow/stern of small ships. The compact design of the MOTS 500 makes simple, space-saving installation and retrofitting possible, giving rise to interesting possibilities for use on larger vehicles too.In the optional “follow mode” the MOTS 500 is capable of performing

ship to ship transfers which, in the con-struction and servicing of wind farms, considerably increases safety during disembarkation, for instance from ho-tel ships, and reduces weather-related delays.

MPI OffshorePowering the Future

MPI Offshore is a world leader in offshore wind turbine installation. Over the past seven years the organisation has been involved in numerous wind farm construction projects, including those on Thanet, Barrow, Robin Rigg and now The London Array project. The company operates the world’s largest and most powerful fleet of Wind Turbine Installation Vessels. With more than 200 wind turbines already installed, MPI Offshore can transport and install wind turbines to exacting standards of safety, quality and precision.

This commitment allowed the company to break industry records in 2010. On 24 June, more than a month ahead of schedule, MPI Resolution completed the installation of 100 turbines in 100

days at the Thanet Offshore Wind Farm.

Delivered in 2003, the MPI Resolution is the world’s first purpose built vessel for installing offshore wind turbines, foundations and transition pieces. The vessel is a unique combination of tested technologies applied in innovative ways to provide a single vessel transport and installation solution for the offshore wind sector.

MPI Resolution, currently in action on the Lincs project, has been specifically designed to overcome the challenges presented by the offshore environment including limited operational weather windows and dependance on high numbers of infield logistical support vessels. Capable of operating in water depths ranging from six metres to more than thirty five metres, conversion of the MPI Resolution from a vessel to a stable working platform is achieved quickly and efficiently by the applica-tion of two class leading technologies. It is manoeuvred into position by its Kongsberg Simrad SDP-11 dynamic positioning system, then 48 large sized hydraulic cylinders allow the 130-me-tre vessel to be jacked clear of the water at a rate of 0.5 metre per minute.

Both the 600 tonne main crane and the 50 tonne auxiliary crane have been selected because of their ability to operate in wind speeds up to 20 metres per second, well above the design parameters laid out in offshore turbine erection procedures.

The main crane also provides the capacity (reach and radius) that is necessary to place a complete wind turbine generator to a hub height over 100 metres above sea level. With a large cargo capacity capable of carrying multiple WTG components and high performance main and ancillary cranes providing the lifting capacity, the MPI Resolution outperforms any other vessel currently installing offshore wind turbine components.

Launched in 2010 and now operational on The London Array project, the MPI Adventure is the ‘next generation’ of wind turbine transport and installation vessel. In terms of jacking speed, deck space, lifting capacity and positioning capabilities, the MPI Adventure is the world’s most advanced and most efficient Wind Turbine Installation Vessel (WTIV). The vessel’s enhanced characteristics have been achieved without losing the original concept of a unique combination of tested tech-nologies, pioneered by MPI on its first WTIV, the MPI Resolution.

The experience gained from operating MPI Resolution in the offshore wind turbine installation market since 2003 has proved vital in implementing these enhancements. Key features on the MPI Adventure include a 1,000-tonne-capacity main crane, a 50- tonne-capacity auxiliary crane, accommodation capacity for 112 persons, a maximum operating depth of 40 metres (at 5.0m leg penetration and 7.8m air gap) and an ability to jack with 6,000 tonnes of cargo onboard.

South Boats is recognised as a pioneer in designing and manufacturing wind farm service vessels. The shipyard has built vessels in five classes, representing a 50% market share in European wind farms that are serviced by 14 operators, including Turbine Transfers Ltd. (Holyhead Towing Company), Iceni Marine Services Ltd., Northern Offshore Services AB, MPI Workboats, Ltd. (Vroon Group BV), Maritime Craft Services and MTS Group. South Boat designs are continually evolving to meet the growing expectations of the industry for higher levels of safety, reduced noise levels and enhanced crew comfort. The South Boats hull design for their GRP and aluminium catamaran work

boats has been developed specifically to handle the most difficult conditions, ensuring exceptional stability whatever the sea state. This unique design has removed the tendency of catamaran work boats to broach in following sea conditions – enabling their work boats to cut through waves, maximizing comfort for both passengers and crew. Water jet propulsion systems (IPS and CPP systems by request) give their work boats exceptional maneuverability when accessing wind turbines – providing additional safety during crew transfer. Crew comfort is ensured by individual suspension seats, plentiful lockers, immersion suit hanging areas, kit bag racks, TV/DVD systems, WIFI and air conditioning.

South Boats offers a complete package to suit specific projects, including bespoke design, vessel construction, sea trials, crew and wind turbine access training. As pioneers of building aluminium catamaran work boats for this industry to class, South Boats continue to work with the classification societies to develop more appropriate rules for all work boats.

By combining modern building practices with highly skilled trades, they produce work boats of the highest quality - and plan to fulfil future demand through strategic partnerships with firms around the world.

The SIWT concept has been developed with the support of Carbon Trust as part their Offshore Wind Accelerator program, which is subsidized by the UK government and several major renewable companies with licenses for the UK 3rd round of offshore wind farms. The SIWT concept is innovative, as it would be the industry first. On the other hand the concept is based on a combination of well-proven and successfully applied techniques as used in the oil/gas industry. Demonstration of the SIWT concept is being planned for the near future.

Next to the SIWT SPT Offshore has developed several Self Installing Platform (SIP) concepts, which can also be used for the large offshore transformer AC and AC/DC substations.

The Self Installing Platform (SIP) concept is well suited for the larger platforms up to 15,000 ton in weight and up to 40m water depth. In September 2010, SPT successfully installed the SIP gas platform for Centrica in the centre of the North Sea in 40m water depth. The SIP platform measured a weight of some 10,000 ton and was the world’s first platform installed in record time of 2 days and 4 hours.

SCHEUERLE, NICOLAS and KAMAG have met the particular transportation challenges of offshore wind power plants and have developed a plethora of specialised transportation solutions.

Each component of a wind power plant requires tailor-made transport solutions. No matter whether it is extremely long rotor blades, huge jackets and tripods, nacelles or oversize tower segments. Whether inside the company or on public roads, SCHEUERLE, NICOLAS and KAMAG have numerous vehicle technologies for every transportation task. Renowned WTG producers use transport vehicles from SCHEUERLE, NICOLAS and KAMAG in their daily

business. Furthermore, scores of new offshore wind parks all over the world rely on proven TII Group equipment.

To carry the massive wind power plants to their place of destination, the high-est amount of precision work is re-quired. SCHEUERLE, NICOLAS and KAMAG offer the optimal solution with the proven self-propelled modular transporter technology. Be it the SPMT and InterCombi SP and SPE from SCHEUERLE, the MDHM SPE from NICOLAS or the K24 and K25 from KAMAG, the extremely robust and heavy-duty structure makes moving of heaviest loads of 16,000 tons and more possible. The control technology makes accurate positioning also in loose cou-pling mode. The self-developed elec-tronic multi-mode steering and the steering angle of +130°/-100° make the module transporters extremely flexible and maneuverable.

The NICOLAS reel carrier is developed to transport big offshore cable reels up to 500 tons. The special design allows to pick-up the load through specific reel lifting devices. At the same time, the electronically regulated all-wheel steering system supports precise manoeuvring operations. The hydraulic suspension ensures an equal load spreading on all axles. A new developed smaller cable reel carrier from NICOLAS with 50 ton payload has been brought to the market now. In comparison to transportation of cable reels with forklifts, the new NICOLAS reel carrier avoids high ground pressure.

TII GroupSCHEUERLE, NICOLAS and KAMAG

SCHEUERLE, NICOLAS and KAMAG are subsidiaries of the German TII Group (Transporter Industry International). The TII Group is a global leader in developing and manufacturing top class heavy duty transporters and is part of the group of companies belonging to the Rettenmaiers, an entrepreneurial family based in Heilbronn. The multi-business entrepreneur Senator E. h. Otto Rettenmaier expressed his fascination with technology when he purchased SCHEUERLE Fahrzeugfabrik in 1987. Shortly afterwards the acquisition of NICOLAS Industrie followed in 1994, as did Ulm KAMAG Transporttechnik ten years later.

Temporary Works DesignYour partner in offshore design and engineering

Temporary Works Design (TWD) is an engineering firm specialized in design of temporary structures for the offshore construction industry. TWD has its main office in Schiedam, the Netherlands, where we work with approximately 35 experienced mechanical engineers and draftsmen. Together with our partners we realize projects of various sizes, from a complete stinger design for a pipe lay vessel to a single seafastening for a monopile.

When you have a great idea, you want a reliable partner to work it out for you. GeoSea chose TWD as its partner to engineer innovative “piling frames” for various offshore wind projects. The frames are placed below the jack-up barge, rather than on the side of it, resulting in an optimised working radius for the onboard cranes.

The first frame was successfully used in the Ormonde offshore wind farm project. Subsequently Temporary Works Design worked on GeoSea’s piling frames for Thornton Bank and Borkum-West.

Temporary Works is the term which is often used for structures that facilitate

the construction of Permanent Works. For example piling frames required to drive foundation piles for an offshore wind farm, or seafastening for a monopile.

Although these structures are of a temporary nature they all have to be safe, practical and economical. Therefore it is well worth it to pay enough attention to the design of these temporary works.

We at TWD well understand the requirements of temporary works and their design. Over the past years we have designed many temporary structures. Stingers, sea fastenings, piling frames, temporary jetties or

up-ending frames: our engineers will design a safe, practical and economical solution for you.Our main market is the offshore construction industry. Apart from that we work on many other maritime and civil projects. Whatever temporary works you need, TWD will design it for you.

TWD covers the full range of design and engineering services, including:

• Basis of Design• Basic Design• Detailed Design• Drawings and Calculations• Method Statements• Cost Estimates

Winergy AGA pioneer in the offshore wind business

Winergy, one of the pioneers in the offshore business, introduced its first industrialized gearbox for wind turbines in 1981. Ten years later, in 1991, the first offshore wind park in Vindeby, Denmark, was equipped with eleven 450 kW Winergy gearboxes - an important step for the wind industry and the crucial move for Winergy to build up experience in the offshore business. Focussing on offshore applications since then, Winergy introduced a gearbox especially for offshore applications in 2003, which had more than a 10-times higher power rating: The first 5 MW gearbox prototype - a milestone for gearbox technology.

Today 80 percent of all installed 5 MW offshore wind turbines are running with Winergy gearboxes and couplings.

Highest reliability through worldclass production and testing processesReliability and availability are the most important factors for offshore wind turbines. Therefore Winergy products are subjects of advanced quality measures. Sophisticated testing facilities including a climate chamber and the world’s largest gearbox test bench (14 MW) combined with a zero defect culture during the procurement and assembly process ensure highest quality products.

Multi Duored – New drive train concepts for the offshore industryNext to the highly reliable and well proven gearbox design with two plan-etary stages and one helical stage, Winergy also developed new offshore drive train concepts like the Multi Duored gearbox. This 6.5 MW gearbox is especially designed for offshore applications and has an 8-fold power split, which is realized through helical gears. Another specialty of this product are the two generator output shafts. The utilization of two generators allows a very compact design for the complete drive train, which reduces the overall length by up to 35%. The reduction of size results in a lower overall nacelle weight.

Especially for offshore application every kilogram saved in the tower and the nacelle has an effect on the overall installation costs.

Likewise important for offshore wind turbines is a mature service concept. The Multi Duored can be rotated by 360 degrees in the nacelle. Most bearings and gears are identical and designed in a way, that the size and weight does not exceed internal service crane capacities. The rotation and the small parts make the gearbox easy to maintain on the nacelle, since every part is accessible without external equipment. This results in a significant reduction of life-cycle costs.

The long term experience in the offshore business and the understanding of the customers’ needs for a successful offshore performance, make Winergy the right partner for today’s and tomorrow’s offshore projects.

About WinergyWinergy offers the complete mechanical part for wind turbine drive trains including the gearbox and the coupling. Sophisticated service offerings are available for both products. The gearbox product spectrum ranges from 600 kW to 6.5 MW gearboxes, including planetary staged gearboxes and Multi Duored gearboxes. Furthermore a HybridDrive is offered, a combination of a two-stage gearbox and a generator in one compact product. Winergy’s maintenance and wear-free couplings are the perfect supplement for the gearboxes.
