Ohio State Football Recruiting: Jerome Baker spurns Buckeyes for Florida - Scarlet and Game - An Ohio State Buckeyes Fan Site The Ohio State Buckeyes have been on a recruiting surge as of late, especially on the defensive side of the ball. They got two five-star commitments in one day last week in Jashon Cornell and Justin Hilliard, and Cleveland Benedictine linebacker Jerome Baker was supposed to be next. It was a lock that Baker was coming to Ohio State, right? Wrong! On Friday morning Baker announced his collegiate decision, and he will not be staying anywhere close to home in Ohio, rather he will be attending the University of Florida and playing in the SEC. At the start of the day on Friday, the 247 Sports crystal ball had Baker coming to Ohio State at 78%, while the Gators were only given a 22% chance. When talking about the commitment, the four-star Ohio native basically just said that Florida is the place that he sees himself at in the future. "It's where I could see myself playing for four years," Baker said of his decision. "It's where I felt most comfortable. Florida felt like home. I really connected with the players and I really love the whole coaching staff. I love coach (D.J.) Durkin. The (Florida) coaching staff did a phenomenal job." Well, that's the way the recruiting ball bounces sometimes. With that said, best of luck to Baker and his future in Gainesville.
