Jack Ferguson Award

The Jack Ferguson Award, also known as “The Fergie” is presented annually to thefirst player selected in the OHL Priority Selection. The award is named for thelong-time Director of OHL Central Scouting and a team scout with several OHLclubs during his long carrer.

In 2001, the Ontario Hockey Leagueconducted the annual Priority Selec-tion process by way of the Internet forthe first time in league history.

The new process allowed for eligibleplayers and their families, as well as fansacross the league to follow the processin real time online.

The 2008 OHL Priority Selection willonce again be conducted online onSaturday May 3, 2008 beginning at9:00 a.m. You can follow the entireprocess online at www.ontariohockeyleague.com.

Player EligibilityNorth American players born betweenJanuary 1, 1989 and December 31,1992 from protected OHL territories are eligible for selection inthe 15 rounds of the 2008 OHL Prior-ity Selection.

Selected Players in the OHLOHL Member Teams are permitted toregister a maximum of four 16 year oldplayers selected in the OHL PrioritySelection. Those 16 year old playersthat are allowed to be signed are thefirst two 16 year old players selectedand a maximum addition of two 16year old wild carded players in anyround of the OHL Priority Selection.

All other 16-year-old players selectedare eligible to be called up as an “affili-ated player” or “floating affiliate player”for a maximum of 10 games or for anyOHL regular season or playoff gameswhen such player’s team has been elim-inated from competition for that sea-son.

Order of SelectionThe order of selection is determined byinverse order of finish during the pastOHL regular season schedule of games

with non-playoff teams selecting aheadof playoff teams.

Teams are permitted to trade draftchoices, other than their first round se-lection, during the trading period fromMonday April 28 to Friday May 2,2008 at 3:00 p.m.

OHL Central ScoutingThe Central Scouting Bureau of theOntario Hockey League is an informa-tion service and support organizationdesigned to provide the MemberTeams with a reference in regards tothe players available for selection in theannual “Priority Selection Process.”

The primary objective of OHL CentralScouting is to identify, rate and rankplayers to be eligible for the Priority Se-lection, according to their OHL poten-tial. OHL Member Teams combineplayer data received from the Central

Scouting Bureau with evaluations fromtheir team scouting staffs to make theirplayer selections.

The OHL Central Scouting Bureauhas been evaluating players since the1975-76 season.

• Once a player graduates from the OHL, he will receive a minimum scholarship of tuition, textbooks and compulsory fees towards an undergraduate degree for each year played in the Ontario Hockey League.

• The OHL Scholarship can be applied to a program that is different than a traditional university or college four-year undergraduate

degree / diploma program such as a Technical or Trade School,Firefighting or EMS.

• The OHL Scholarship Program is administered throughthe league office.

Other scholarship criteria to note:

At the conclusion of a player’s junior eligibility theplayer has 18 months to access his scholarship

therefore allowing him to play minor pro-fessional hockey.

A player’s scholarship may be utilizedat any recognized university/collegein the world.
