This interest group is meant for everyone who is
interested in advancing and safeguarding human
health through policy, no matter from where any one
member is starting. Our approach aims to reach
throughout all levels of OHSU, from recruiting
interested students and organizing grassroots efforts
to introduce/advocate policy, to long-lasting
institutional implementation of an advocacy skills
curriculum.
In this group…
Start where you are. Share your strengths,
and acknowledge your deficits;
We advocate for any policy that is good for
human health;
We aim to better understand the political
landscape of Oregon;
We aim to develop our advocacy skills, both
individually and collectively;
We believe safeguarding human health is
intricately connected to many seemingly
disparate things (research, statistics,
business, human psychology), so we will also
look to difference disciplines to develop and
advocate for solid health policy;
We believe in working collectively with
existing student interest groups to advance

Students Against Gun Violence
As OHSU students we stand in solidarity with people and communities impacted by gun violence. As future health professionals, we have a duty to minimize vectors of human illness and injury - including gun violence - and to contextualize these forces within social, economic, and political frameworks. We recognize the ongoing work of activists on this issue and seek to elevate their voices through our advocacy. As twenty-first century health care workers we will address the disproportionate rates of gun violence against communities of color, women-identified people, members of the LGBTQ community, and those with mental illness. We will address state-sanctioned violence against communities of color and the
