PROJECT BACKGROUND
• The CN Rail line was constructed totransport local produce and lumber tomarkets across Canada. High operatingcosts and low revenues saw the rail servicecease in June 2013.
• In 2015 the City of Kelowna, District of LakeCountry, Regional District of NorthOkanagan, and the Province of B.C.invested $22 million in the purchase of thediscontinued CN railway running fromColdstream to Kelowna.
• In early 2016 the Okanagan Indian Bandjoined the Inter-jurisdictional DevelopmentTeam.
• The local governments and the provincerecognized the joint value the route couldhave as a continuous multi-modaltransportation corridor connecting all thecommunities.
