After a long break from last spring until now Chinook's Edge
schools have finally been given the go ahead to start volleyball
practices within their respective schools. While game play be-
tween other schools is still not a go at this time we are excited to
get students back in the gym after school practicing volley-
ball. Currently the Royals volleyball practice schedule is:
-Gr. 10-12 Girls & Boys - Mondays & Wednesdays 3:30 - 5:30
pm
-Gr. 7-9 Girls & Boys - Tuesdays & Thursdays 3:30 - 5:00 pm
Also, we are looking for some parents who would be interested
in helping coach gr. 7-9 girls and gr. 7-9 boys, please contact Mr.
Terpstra if interested.

Here are some tips to
help your child get
ready for a great look-
ing school portrait:
Help your child
pick clothes and
colours that look
good on them.
Avoid slogans, log-
os, and big pat-
terns. Small jewel-
ry and accessories
are fine but noth-
ing too big or dis-
tracting. Some pos-
es may show pants
or skirts, so plan
the complete out-
fit.
Glasses are okay!
Lifetouch photogra-
phers know all the
tricks to reduce
glare.
Any hairstyle works
for Picture Day.
Schedule haircuts a
few weeks ahead of
time to allow hair to
grow back a little, or
you can go for a
fresh-cut look.
Keep kids relaxed
and ready to be
themselves.
Don’t worry about
“perfect”! That hair

Operation Christmas Child
Our focus this year is
prayer for Samaritan's
purse and for the lives that
will be changed through
the gift of a shoebox.
Please be praying for those
children and their families
who will be receiving a
shoebox.
Operation Christmas
Child is a hands-on pro-
ject that brings joy and
hope to children in des-
perate situations around
the world through gift-
filled shoeboxes packed by
Canadians. It is one way to
remind children suffering
as a result of war, poverty,
famine, disease, and disas-
ter that they are loved and
not forgotten.
A global pandemic will not
stop our school from col-
lecting shoe boxes for Sa-
maritan's Purse. The pro-
cess might look a bit different this year be-
cause of that.
Please take the month
of October to fill a
shoebox and bring it to
your homeroom be-
fore November 5.
Shoebox Chapel will
be October 22.

Superintendent’s Message

Happy to be learning in our safe and caring schools
A Message from the Superintendent Now more than ever, ensuring everyone in our school communities are surrounded by caring professionals within safe settings is paramount. Teaching and learning in the midst of a pandemic is a new experience, and our entire team has worked to ready ourselves for shifts in practice that may be required as we move forward. We are able to accomplish this because of our caring culture and our resilient students. We have heard that our students are happy to be back together and enthusiastic about their learning. We consider our Inclement Weather procedures to be another important example of our safe and caring focus, and we will soon be navigating the challenges that winter weather can throw at us. We want to remind parents and staff of these Inclement Weather procedures, and encourage you to refer back to the information in the months ahead as we continue to refine our approach to ensure upmost safety for everyone in our Chi-nook’s Edge school communities. As always, we are also pleased to provide this link to the latest Board eNews. Kurt Sacher Superintendent of Schools

Green days – the days when it is clearly safe for everyone to travel. All buses are running and all of our schools are open. Yellow days – the days when buses might not run in some or all areas of the Division, but schools remain open. Some conditions which may result in a Yellow Day include: temperatures that fall below -35 degrees ambient or - 40 degrees with windchill; reduced visibility, road or climatic conditions. On Yellow days, we anticipate that the major ity of staff members will be able to dr ive to their schools and that meaningful learning will take place. (i.e. There may be a small minority of staff who choose not to travel because they have deemed their unique route unsafe.) Note: if a bus is cancelled because of inclement weather in the morning, it is cancelled for the entire day and will not run in the afternoon either. Parents of bus students are asked to contact your school to confirm your child will be absent on Yellow Days. Some parents may choose to drive their child into the school when their school bus isn’t running, while some parents will choose to keep their child at home that day – schools cannot make assumptions when safety is at stake. Red days – the days when a given school, area or the entire Division may be closed. These are days when we are faced with extremely cold temperatures (ambient temperature for a significant part of the day is lower than - 40 degrees Celsius, or the temperature with wind chill is lower than -45 degrees Celsius), or a full-blown blizzard, or when we have a combination of heavy snow, high winds, and very low visibility. On Red days, to ensure the safety of our staff, parents, and licensed older students, we feel we need to close schools not only for students, but also for staff. This decision will be made in consultation with school administrators whenever possible. We believe this is the best way to ensure everyone’s safety. It is important to note that a Red day may exist for one school, for one area (i.e. all Sundre Schools), or for the entire Division. Staff will be expected to conduct their work from home as much as possible and, for emergency purposes only, we will be asking our schools to do what they can to have at least one staff member onsite on school closure days to ensure that no students are inadvertently dropped off at the front door of a school.
