The “MAHINDRA, B-275 DI MKM (Brand Name: Bhoomiputra)” tractor had
undergone “Initial Commercial Test” at this Institute vide test report No. T-727/1234/2010 was
released in July, 2010. Thereafter, the firm had made modification in the technical specification
of tractor and permanently incorporated and tested under supplementary test report No. T-
1241/1768/2019 released in May, 2019. Now the applicant has submitted an application vide
letter no. Nil, dated 25.01.2016 for batch testing of “MAHINDRA, B-275 DI MKM (Brand
Name: Bhoomiputra)” tractor.
All the necessary tests as per table-1 of clause 6.0. of IS: 5994 -1998 (Reaffirmed in
2009) was carried out and test report released under.

14.4 Salient Observations:
14.4.1 Laboratory test:

14.4.2 Drawbar Performance Test:
i) Maximum drawbar pull with and without ballast corresponding to 15 percent wheel slip, (kN) was recorded
as 21.89 & 13.63 kN respectively against the minimum requirement of
17.08 & 13.63 kN respectively, which meet the minimum requirement of IS: 12207-2009.
i) Maximum drawbar pull with and without ballast corresponding to 15 percent wheel slip, (kN) was recorded
as 18.49 & 14.75 kN respectively against the minimum requirement of
14.21 & 11.28 kN respectively, which meet the minimum requirement of IS: 12207-2014.
ii) During drawbar performance the tyre creeping over rim of LHS & RHS tyre was observed 70 & 60 mm respectively, which is on higher side.
ii) During drawbar performance test the tyre creeping over rim of LHS & RHS tyre were observed 25 & 20 mm respectively, which is on higher side.
14.4.3 Hydraulic Performance Test:
i) Maximum lifting capacity at hitch point and standard frame was recorded

15.3 Salient Observations:
15.3.1 Laboratory tests:
15.3.1.1 PTO Performance:
i) The maximum power was recorded as 24.2 & 23.9 kW in case of previous &
present sample respectively against the declaration of 24.3 kW, which meets the requirement of IS: 12207-2014 with regard to tolerance.
ii) The specific fuel consumption corresponding to maximum power in case of
previous and present sample was measured as 234 & 252 g/kWh respectively
against the declaration of 238 g/kWh, which does not meet the requirement of IS: 12207-2014 with regard to tolerance. This should be looked into for necessary corrective action.
iii) The maximum equivalent crankshaft torque in case of previous and present
sample was measured as 131.5 & 127.1 N-m respectively against the
declaration of 140.0 N-m, which does not meets requirement of IS: 12207-
2014 with regard to tolerance limit in case of present sample . This should be looked into for necessary corrective action.
iv) The backup torque was observed as 10.9 & 5.8 % in case of previous and present sample, which does not meet the requirement of IS: 12207-2014 with regard to tolerance. This should be looked into for necessary corrective action.
v) The drop in maximum PTO power was observed as 5.0 % between natural and high ambient condition, which is considered on higher side. This should be looked into for necessary corrective action.

15.3.1.2 Drawbar Performance:
During 10 hour drawbar test, the creeping of LHS & RHS rear tyre over the rims
was observed as 25 mm & 20 mm respectively, which was considered on higher side. This may be looked into for necessary corrective action.
15.3.1.2.1 The maximum drawbar pull under ballasted condition was observed as 21.89 &
18.49 kN in case of previous & present sample respectively which is less than 7.5 % when compared with the performance of it’s previous sample and not meeting the qualifying performance criteria for present sample as per Clause 7.6 of IS: 12207-2014.
15.3.1.3 Hydraulic performance:
The moment about rear axle at lower hitch and with standard frame was
calculated as 13.79 & 18.47 kN-m respectively, whereas, the moment about front
axle was calculated as 13.39 kN-m under unballasted condition. The moment about rear axle at standard frame is on higher side as compared to the moment about front axle under unballasted condition. It is, therefore, recommended that the lifting capacity of the hydraulic system may be reduced suitably or ballast recommendation may be reviewed to avoid the front lifting of the tractor.
15.3.1.3.1 i) Maximum lifting capacity throughout the range of lift at hitch point in case of
previous and present sample was recorded as 11.51 & 16.52 kN respectively which is more than 7.5 % when compared with the performance of it’s previous sample and not meeting the qualifying performance criteria for present sample as per Clause 7.6 of IS: 12207-2014. This should be looked into.
ii) Maximum lifting capacity throughout the range of lift at standard frame in
case of previous and present sample was recorded as 8.94 & 12.78 kN respectively which is more than 7.5 % when compared with the performance of it’s previous sample and not meeting the qualifying performance criteria for present sample as per Clause 7.6 of IS: 12207-2014. This should be looked into.
15.3.1.4 Air cleaner oil pull over test:
Maximum oil consumption during air cleaner oil pull over test was measured as
5.03 % against the maximum requirement of 0.25 % and hence does not meet the requirement of IS: 12207-2014. This should be looked into for necessary corrective action.
15.3.1.5 Mechanical Vibration:
The amplitude of mechanical vibration on various assemblies marked as (*) in Chapter-9 of this test report are on higher side especially at the steering, left foot rest and control wheel. This calls for dampening down of vibrations to improve the operational comfort and service life of components.
15.3.1.6 Three point linkage:
i) The lateral distance from lower hitch point to centre line of tractor does not meets the requirement of IS: 4468 (Part-1)-1997. This should be looked into for necessary corrective action.
ii) Some of the parameters conform to Cat. I and some of them conform to Cat. II. Keeping in view the spirit of standardization, necessary improvement may be incorporated.
15.3.1.7 Power take off Shaft:
The dimension “dϕ” of Power Take-Off Shaft does not meet the requirements of IS: 4931-1995. This should be looked into for necessary corrective action.

15.3.1.8 PTO Master shield:
PTO master shield has not provided on tractor as per the requirements of IS: 4931-1995. This should be looked into.
15.3.1.9 Operator’s work place:
Operator’s work place meets the requirements of IS: 12239 (part-I) 1996 (Reaffirmed in 2014), except the, width of step, working clearance around the draft control lever & mudguard and provision of spark arresting device in the exhaust system.
15.3.1.10 Location and operation of Controls:
Location and movement of various controls meets the requirement of IS: 8133-1983 (Re-affirmed in 2014), except the following:
i) Safety switch while starting the engine is not provided.
ii) Control for stop the engine is provided but it does not remain in the stop position without application of sustained manual effort.
iii) Differential lock is not provided.
15.3.2 Field performance test:
15.3.2.1 Haulage performance:
i) The distance traveled / liter of fuel consumption, (km/l) with two wheel and four wheel trailer was observed as 7.07 to 7.26 and 7.03 to 7.19 (km/l) against the declaration of 6 to 7 (km/l) for two wheel and four wheel trailer.
This does not meet the requirement of IS: 12207-2014 and therefore, should be looked into for necessary corrective action.
15.4 Maintenance / Service problems:
No noticeable maintenance or service problems, observed during the test.
15.5 Recommendation with regard to safety on tractor:
The following requirements, inter alia, may be considered for incorporation on the tractor as per relevant Indian Standards:
i) There should be provision for spark arresting device in exhaust system.
ii) The fuel shut-off knob should remain in stop position.
iii) The working clearance between the draft control lever and mudguard should be provided as per IS: 12239 (Part-2) – 1999.
iv) PTO shaft master shield should be provided to avoid the accident.
v) The lateral distance from lower hitch point to center line of tractor should be provided as per the requirement of relevant Indian Standard.
vi) Provision of differential lock in tractor.
vii) The drive wheels should be fully guarded.
