Contemporary Art Comes to the Edge of Japan In Ishikawa Prefecture, at the tip of the Noto Peninsula, is the City of Suzu. For a long time this area has been the meeting point of land and sea. The splendid geography of mountains and ocean helped to foster a singularly unique culture, melded with the older Japanese lifestyle. These lifestyles and customs, “the Japan that has been forgotten” as some say, are alive and well in Suzu. The Oku-Noto Triennale will be held in autumn, the liveliest time in Suzu when Kiriko Festivals occur almost daily. The Triennale is a festival for the fringe of art to come echo with the perennial traditions of Japan. Artists from around the globe will come to reveal the resting potential of Suzu, in an attempt to foster a pioneering culture at the edge of Japan     A ‘YOBARE’ meal

About the Festival - - - - X The Oku-Noto Triennale 2017 consists of 39 artists and groups from 11 countries and regions around the globe, and is produced in part by Fram Kitagawa. Artists have come together, and taking into account the culture, history, and geography of Suzu, have strived to “make art that can only be done in Suzu.” We anticipate around 30,000 visitors will come to Suzu to patronize the festival within its term. With this opportunity, we’ve organized some special events to showcase the unique cultural aspects about the Suzu. ●The Taste of Suzu Festivals ※ With a reservation, visitors can enjoy the special “Yobare” festival banquet through this project at any of the 16 participating shops and inns. ●Special Art Tour bus with Local Guide “Suzu Bus” ●Rent-a-cycle ●Overnight Stay Plans (Festival Passport included)
