Brian Richard Earl – Biography Brian Richard Earl is a composer, conductor and instrumentalist. After graduating from the Royal Northern College of Music, Manchester (GB) he joined the orchestra of the La Scala Opera House, and the La Scala Philarmonic Orchestra, in Milan, Italy, where he still plays tuba and contrabass trombone. During his years at La Scala he studied composition externally at the University of London, conducting at the Canford International School of Music (GB) under George Hurst and organ with Alessandro La Ciaccera, one Milan's Cathedral organists. To date he has a compositional catalogue of more than thirty-five works which have been played by many ensembles both in Europe and the USA. In particular, various brass artists, such as Daniele Morandini, formerly principal trombone of the Israel Philharmonic Orchestra, now at La Scala Opera House, Frank Lloyd, the well known horn soloist, Matteo Beschi, principal trumpet of Parma Opera House, Giuliano Rizzoto, first trombone of the Orchestra Verdi in Milan, and Alessandro Fossi, tuba soloist, have performed and recorded his solo works for their instruments. In 2004 the conductor James Gourlay, then of the R.N.C.M., Manchester, commissioned his first large-scale score, the Sinfonia Concertante. Other important works of his have been commissioned by the Canitere Internazionale d'Arte di Montipulciano (Siena, Italy), and the Orchestra di Fiati Sinfonici di Ancona (Italy). Of his large works for winds his Concerto Grosso has been performed by the USAF Band (Washington) in Tucson, Arizona, when the International ITEA Conference was held there and, after it’s first performance in Italy, his Sinfonietta was performed at Stanford University in California in 2012. Through its conductor, Giancarlo Acquilante, the Stanford University Wind Ensemble has commissioned another large work of his for the 2016 concert season. In the medium of the classical guitar he has written for the Aranjez Guitar Duo and for the soloists Ulrich Steier and Cinzia Milani. In July 2015 the young guitar soloist Michael Schmidel premiered his concerto for guitar and orchestra with the Het Sinfonieorkest under the direction of Michael Rhein at Rheine in Germany. For the lyric theatre he has composed a chamber opera, entitled Nosferatu, on a libretto by the Italian opera director Lorenza Cantini.
