MOUNTING THE LENS

Mount the Lens.To mount the lens, grasp the lens f i rmly and al ignthe red dots on the lens f lange and the cameramount r ing. Turn the lens c lockwise unt i l i t locksin p lace. The lens re lease but ton wi l lspr ing up andvou wi l l hear a posi t ive "c l ick" when the lens hasbeen fu l ly engaged.CAUTION: Do not apply pressure to the lens re-l ease bu t t on du r i ng t he moun t i ng p rocedu re . Th i swi l l assure proper coupl ing between the lens andthe meter.

Detach the Lens.To de tach the lens , p ress down on the lens re leasebut ton and tu rn the lens counter -c lockwise . Graspthe lens f i rm lv and remove i t f rom the camerabody.

Advance the f i lm using the f i lm advance lever.Make sure that the f i lm perforat ions engagethe sprockets on both s ides.Close the camera back unt i l i t c l icks into p lace.Af ter c losing the cover, fo ld out the rewindcrank and turn i t s lowly in a c lockwise di rec-t ion unt i l a s l ight resistance is fe l t . This wi l lt a ke up any s l ack i n t he f i lm .

I Shutter Speed RingThe length of t ime that l ight is a l lowed to str ikethe f i lm is contro l led by the focal p lane shut ter .The shut ter consists of two opaque "curta ins"

which t ravel across the f i lm surface. The coordi-nated movement of these curta ins determine theexposure t ime for your p icture: 1000 indicates1 /1000 o f a second and 60 i nd i ca tes 1 /60 o f asecond . Preselecting the Shutter SPeedShould you wish to select a shut ter speed ( for ex-ample. to stop fast act ion, e l iminate camera shake,etc.) :i Turn the shut ter speed r ing unt i l the desiredspeed is opposi te the red index mark on the cam-era lens.2 Look through the v iewf inder and turn the aper-t u re r i ng un t i l t he need le l i nes up i n t he cen te r o fthe index. For f ine exposure adjustment you canuse any intermediate F stop posi t ion on the aper-t u re r i ng .CAUTION: I n case o f hand -he ld pho tog raphy w i t ha somm lens, a shut ter speed 1/60 sec. or laster isrecommended to e l iminate the possib i l i ty of cam-e r a s h a k e .

Proper camera handl ing is important in assur ingthe sharpest possible pictures.Holding the Camera HorizontallyKeep both elbows close to the body, to steady thecamera.Putting the camera into operationThe aperture r ing, focusing r ing and shut ter speedring are so arranged as to enable one-hand oDera-t ion r ight up to the moment the shut ter is re leased.Hold your breath at the moment of shut ter re lease.Transport the f i lm advance lever wi th your r ightthumb and depress the shut ter re lease but ton wi tha slow, steady squeeze using the cushion, not thet ip. of your index f inger.

Q Fold out the rewind crank and wind i t in thedirect ion of the arrow. When i t turns f ree, thef i lm has been completely rewound back into thecartr idge.(g) Open the camera back by pul l ing up on therewind crank and remove the f i lm cart r idge. Keepcamera and f i lm out of d i rect sunl ight .NOTE: The rewind re lease lever wi l l automat ical-ly return to the or ig inal posi t ion wi th movementof the f i lm advance lever, as when reloading wi thf i l m .

Should you wish to make more than one exposureon the same f rame:O Turn the rewind knob s lowly in the di rect ionof the arrow unt i l i t s tops to take of f any s lack inthe f i lm, then take the f i rs t exposure.

@ Turn the rewind re lease lever counter-c lock 'wise unt i l the red dot is opposi te the "R".

O gota both the rewind knob and rewind re leaselever f i rmly to prevent them from turning andtransport the f i lm advance lever. The shut ter wi l lthen be cocked for the next exposure, wi thoutthe f i im being advanced.@ Depress the shut ter re lease but ton.

@ After complet ing the mul t ip le exposure, coverthe lens wi th a lens cap, advance the f i lm and shoota blank f rame to avoid over lapping.You can make as many mul t ip le exposures as youl ike by repeat ing the above procedure.CAUTION: With each exposure on the same f rame( the exposu re coun te r adds one ) , t he l i ke l i hoodof s l ippage is increased. SETTING THE SELF.TIMER

The sel f - t imer provides a method of taking delay-ed act ion pictures al lowing you to get into yourown photographs. To set the sel f - t imer:Q Rotbte the sel f - t imer lever counter-c lockwiseun t i l i t s t ops (app rox ima te l y 180 " ) . Makesu re thef i lm has been advanced proper ly.

O Turn the star t lever c lockwise to the vert icalposi t ion to act ivate the sel f - t imer lever. The shut-ter wi l l then be re leased inapp rox ima te l y 12 seconds .You can adiust the delayt ime between 4 and 12 sec-onds by adjust ing the leveras shown above.

I Stopping the Sel f -TimerTo stop the sel f - t imer dur ing i ts operat ion, turnthe star t lever counter-c lockwise. FThe exposure can be compensated by adjustinsjthe F stop or shut ter speed. The exposure needleindicates over-exposure at the (+) s ide, or under-exposure at the (- l s ide.@ Backlighting and SidolightingTo compensate, move in towards the subject unt i lmost of the subject image appears in the view-f inder and take your meter reading. Af ter set t ingthe exposure, return to your or ig inal shoot ingposi t ion to take the picture. l f th is procedure can-not be fo l lowed, you can obtain approximatelythe same resul ts by s imply opening your lens oneful l F stop over the indicated meter reading.

@ Strong front lighting and deep shadowsTo compensate, use the same procedure as out-l ined for backl ight ing. You can also approximatethe proper exposure by hold ing your posi t ion andclosing the lens down one fu l l F stop f rom the in-dicated meter reading.

The OM System lenses are provided wi th an infra-red index mark engraved in red on the depth off ie ld scale to the r ight of the reference dot .When shoot ing wi th inf rared f i lm,focus normal lvon your subject wi thout the red f i l ter on and readthe subject d istance on the distance scale. Then.t u rn t he f ocus ing r i ng t o t he r i gh t un t i l t he d i s -tance reading is opposi te the infrared index mark.Shoot wi th the red f i l ter on. My camera is loaded with film but the rewindknob does not rotate when I transport thefilm advance lever. Why?The f i lm leader may not be inserted in thef i lm t ake -up spoo l and t he f i lm i s no tadvanc -ing proper ly.The film advance lever cannot be transport-ed. Why?

A: The shut ter may be cocked and ready to f i re.Try pressing the shut ter re lease but ton. l fth is is not the case, your f i lm may be fu l lyexposed. Check the exposure counter. l f voufeel tension on the f i lm advance lever, bONOT FORCE IT .

How can I remove dust from inside theviewfinder?After detaching the focusing screen, b lowaway any dust wi th an ai r b lower. (See page23.) Never wipe the surfaces of the screens,pr isms, or mirror wi th c loth or paper.Why can't I turn the ASA film speed dial?The f ilm speed dial release button must bepressed before the dial can be turned.
