When you first enter the US you will have to go through US Immigration. You will be asked to show your Passport and DS-2019 Visa Papers. Make sure that you  have these ready. IMMIGRATION I-94 At the Immigration desk your I-94 electronic record will be created. The Immigration official will stamp your passport with the date of admission, class of admission (J-1) and the date that you arrived. You will be given a flyer with information on how to access your I-94 card information online (www.cbp.gov/I94). This information online will allow you to apply for your social security card or State driving license. Then head to the correct luggage carousel to collect your bags! If your suitcase does not arrive with you in New York you must make a report with the airline.  Please do not allow the airline to combine your report with anyone else in your group. You will need to write your Host Family's address on the report. LUGGAGE Once you have your luggage, please go to the Arrivals Hall. You will be met by one of our friendly APIA representatives holding a Blue 'Au Pair In America' sign. If they are not there when you arrive don't worry, go to Ground Transportation and wait until you see them. Please make sure that you do not go with anyone who does not have your name listed.
