Summer Associates are fully integrated into Adams and Reese working along side attorneys writing briefs, attending closings, preparing for trials and attending strategy sessions. We regard a six-week program as an ideal time frame for us to assess your professional potential and for summer associates to make a well-informed career decision about us. We generally offer summer associate programs in all of our offices except the Nashville Music Row and Washington, DC offices. The program size varies from office to office and year to year based on anticipated hiring needs. We do not offer a 1L program nor do we consider first year law students for our Summer Associate Program. We view our Summer Associate Program as our primary source for recruiting our new associates. Additional Information (Provided by Employer) Hill Ward Henderson started with a vision of a unique law firm — one that would combine the expansive talent, resources, capabilities and technologies of a larger firm with the responsiveness and personal attention of a smaller firm, to deliver powerful, personal service to every client. This idea for an innovative, client-focused firm grew out of the longstanding relationships and collective experience of three of the area's leading attorneys, Benjamin H. Hill, III, David E. Ward, Jr., and Thomas N. Henderson, III. Acting on this vision, on May 1, 1986, these three and four others established Hill Ward Henderson. Since inception, Hill Ward Henderson has grown steadily based on our continued allegiance to this founding, client-centered philosophy. Today, with over 100 attorneys offering a wide range of premier commercial legal services in nine different practice areas, our firm's superior reputation for results-oriented service continues to fuel that growth. As we have grown, our priorities have remained the same. Hill Ward Henderson has as its cornerstone an obligation and a commitment to our valued clients to provide the highest degree of integrity, professionalism and competence to ensure the timely, efficient delivery of high quality legal services. The dividend to our firm has been the long-term relationships we have developed with our clients and with the Tampa community. Our summer associate program is the firm’s primary source for hiring new associates. We hire only those students who we believe will one

day be shareholders with the firm. This long‑term focus, coupled with the discerning nature of our recruiting process, enable Hill Ward

Henderson to extend job offers to the majority of our summer associates. We have been fortunate that nearly all of them accept these positions. In fact, approximately one-quarter of our attorneys were once summer associates with the firm. Such a hiring philosophy has brought together a group of attorneys committed to excellence, while promoting a sense of “family” within the firm.

The firm's traditional summer associate program is committed to providing law students a variety of experiences focused on strengthening skills essential to our legal practice. In several of our offices we host a traditional summer program which lasts six to seven weeks during the first-half of the summer. This program allows students to become involved in the day-to-day activities of a law firm practice, including research and writing, attending depositions, investigations, hearings, motions and trials, and corporate and commercial closings. Projects are assigned to summer associates to allow them the opportunity to work in multiple practice areas and groups within the firm. Throughout the program, partners and associates act as mentors to provide the summer clerks with informal evaluations and advice, as well as to help acclimate the student to the firm, practice area and office. Summer associates are provided opportunities to meet our clients and participate in training programs throughout the summer geared to help enhance their skills. Additionally, in an effort to become acquainted with our attorneys on a personal basis, the firm sponsors a number of social and professional functions that allow for interaction in non-work environments.

Additional Information (Provided by Employer) When Rumberger, Kirk & Caldwell first opened its doors in 1978, the three founding partners made a collective commitment: the day they no longer enjoyed getting up to come to work, they would stop. The three partners also encouraged a true team-oriented environment based on one fundamental principle: respect and support for each other’s accomplishments and abilities. Three decades later, RKC still remains a great place to work and practice law. Rumberger, Kirk & Caldwell has much to offer, whether you are a law student seeking a summer associate position or an experienced attorney looking for a dynamic work environment to grow your practice. Our lawyers and staff comprise a group of talented individuals who enjoy a culture of collegiality, diversity, and professionalism. While RKC is large enough to provide our people with state-of-the-art resources necessary to best serve our clients, our firm is not so large that professionals become "lost in the crowd." We believe that we offer a challenging and energetic atmosphere with continuous opportunity for growth, and we value each person’s contribution to the success of the firm. We would not be here without them. The Rumberger, Kirk & Caldwell Summer Associate Training Program is a comprehensive learning experience. It incorporates legal research, writing, educational seminars and workshops, attendance at hearings, depositions, and mediations, and a simulated trial. Supervising attorneys coordinate and evaluate work assignments, provide consultation, and ensure that the summer associate becomes involved integrally in handling cases. In addition to attending seminars and conducting legal research, RKC encourages each summer associate to attend hearings, depositions, and trials, particularly any proceeding for which he or she prepared research and drafted motions and legal briefs. Litigation practice workshops and a simulated trial expose the summer associate to a litigator's daily tasks. The workshops teach the "nuts and bolts" of trial practice, and assist the summer associate in preparing for the trial. Much of the firm participates as coaches, judges, witnesses, and jurors. Teams of summer associates conduct the trials in a spirit of friendly competition. Finally, social and recreational events, including lunches, dinners, bowling, sporting events and trivia contests complete the summer. These activities allow summer associates to know the firm's members on a more personal level in a relaxed and informal atmosphere, and provide an opportunity to simply have some fun. The firm's goal is to expose summer associates to virtually every aspect of a career as a Rumberger, Kirk & Caldwell trial attorney, in an interesting, challenging, and rewarding manner.

Shumaker, Loop & Kendrick, LLP

Employer Information Office(s) Recruiting: Tampa, FL; Sarasota, FL Session: Fall 2018 – Session A Date on Campus: August 13, 2018 Cover Letter Name: Wendy Zimmerman Cover Letter Address: Shumaker, Loop & Kendrick, LLP 1000 Jackson Street Toledo, OH 43604 Website: www.slk-law.com

Position Information Position Type: Summer Associate Who Can Apply: 2Ls Expected Start Date: May 2019 Pay Information: $1,971 per week

Hiring Criteria Class Rank: Preferred (Top 25%) Law Review / Journal: Preferred Moot Court Board: Preferred

Application Materials Resume: Required (One page maximum) Cover Letter: Required (Addressed to: Wendy Zimmerman) Transcript: Required

Additional Information (Provided by Employer) We look upon our summer associate program as the major source of our future associates and partners. Shumaker recruits summer associates after their first and second years in leading law schools nationwide, and we accept you for inclusion because we see you as a “Shumaker lawyer.” Your learning experience shows you exactly what to expect at Shumaker if you practice law with us, as you will have the opportunity to work on a wide variety of projects involving multiple practice areas. You’ll attend court appearances, discovery proceedings, client meetings and transaction closings. You’ll draft legal documents that are filed with the court system or delivered directly to clients. In other words, you’ll find out very quickly what it’s like to practice law! Each of our offices determines annually what its summer salaries will be and how many summer associates that office will need, bringing in the number of people based on the open positions we expect to have. That works to your advantage, because unlike other firms, we won’t hire six or eight people for our summer program knowing that we only have two spots to fill. We don’t want to pit summer associates against each other – we simply want you to learn what it will be like to work with us. You’ll also benefit from the different way we handle work assignments. We funnel work through summer program coordinators to make sure there is a balance and good variety of work. At all times the coordinator is in the know. We don’t have a rigid assignment rotation from group to group. Instead, you’ll work with several groups at one time, being treated as a full fledged lawyer and not a student. Oftentimes you’ll find that our lawyers will expand a project for you or assign additional projects because they trust your abilities and progress. Wherever possible you’ll have the opportunity to attend client meetings, closings, negotiations, depositions, trials and courtroom hearings. The lawyers you work with will also ask you to draft research memoranda, litigation pleadings, motions and briefs, and a variety of transactional documents. It’s a well-rounded approach that lets you demonstrate your analytical, advocacy and writing skills, and that is as close to a first-year associate’s experience as can be made. It’s a realistic approach that you don’t get at school – or at other firms, where summer associates are rotated through to multiple practice groups. Doing multiple projects for multiple people is not only more realistic, it gives you the opportunity to learn more about your own optimal skill set. That’s to your advantage, and ours.

Additional Information (Provided by Employer) Our practice is built on our belief in hard work, quality, loyalty and attention to detail. From Fortune 500 companies to local governments to sole proprietors, our clients count on us to provide them with clear answers, to help them make good decisions and to provide the strongest possible defense of their interests. Ideally, our firm prefers to establish a relationship with an employer prior to the time any union organizational drive or other labor or civil rights problem arises. In this setting, the firm can assist top management in arriving at practices that forestall expensive and time-consuming matters. We can negotiate releases with discharged employees with an eye toward avoiding future claims. However, we understand that many employers may not recognize the need for an ongoing relationship with employment counsel until that first claim, so we are ready to step in at a moment’s notice to deal with immediate issues on an emergency basis. Because our practice is limited to labor and employment law and related matters, we are trusted by many attorneys in other areas of the profession to represent their clients on an as-needed basis when those clients face problems requiring the expertise offered by our firm.
