* Product that has been evaluated with BASF’s Sustainable Solution Steering method and contributes substantially to sustainability in the value chain.** Experience of artificial weathering according to DIN 11341, DIN 11507, SAEJ 1960, ASTM G154-06 light stabilizer used with Tinuvin® 384-2 / Tinuvin® 292*** Fast cure modification

Joncryl® polyol grades are hydroxyfunctional acrylic co-polymers for solvent-based

coatings. They can be used as binders for crosslinking with poly isocyanates such

as Basonat® or in combination with other binder chemistries to im prove performance

at reduced VOC levels. Especially in combination with Basonol® HPE, outstanding

coatings performances in low VOC systems can be achieved.

For environmental and workers’ protection in 2K PU coatings, low to medium solid

solvent-borne systems can be substituted by high solids solvent-borne systems. Two

options to achieve high solid content are reducing the molecular weight of polyols

and reducing the glass transition temperature. To leverage the full potential of these

systems, a complementing solution is needed to address a possible drop of curing

speed and hampered hardness and resistance of the cured film. Using Basonol® HPE

as a co-binder improves curing speed and lacquer performances in systems based

on low molecular weight polyacrylates and polyisocyanates. The recommended ratio

solids on solids is 5–30% on total binder.

Basonat® HI 100 -

HDI isocyanurate

21.5–22.5 100 - 2,500–4,500

Isocyanurate trimers known for low initial color, high weather resistance, high crosslink density, and perfect for high-performance 2K PU coatings, e.g., for 2K PU automotive OEM and refinish

Basonat® HI 145 B - 9.7–10.1 44–46 n-Butylacetate -

Basonat® HI 172 S - 15.3–16.6 71–73 Solvesso®1 100 70–120

Basonat® HI 180 B/S - 16.9–18.3 79–81 n-Butylacetate / Solvesso®1 100 1:1 -

Basonat® HI 190 B/S - 19.3–20.3 89–91 n-Butylacetate / Solvesso®1 100 1:1 450–650

Basonat® HI 268 B/S - 14.5–15.5 67–69 n-Butylacetate / Solvesso®1 100 1:1 39–55

Basonat® HI 290 B - 19.3–20.3 89–91 n-Butylacetate 400–600

Crosslinkers for high solid coatings

Basonat® HI 2000 1 HDI isocyanurate 22.5–23.5 100 - 900–1,500Next-generation isocyanurate trimer with reduced viscosity for use in high solid coatings, without limitation in chemical reactivity and coatings performance; the right choice to increase the performance of high solid systems

Basonat® HA 1000 1

Low-viscous HDI allophanates

21.0–23.0 100 - 900–1,500

HDI allophanates for low VOC coatings; the increased allophanate content from HA 1000 to HA 3000 reduces hardener viscosity and leads to a significant drop in VOC; a balanced combination of Basonat® HA grades could lead to an intelligent hardener mixture to reduce VOC while retaining good coating properties

Basonat® HA 2000 1 18.5–21.5 100 - 500–900

Basonat® HA 3000 1 19.0–20.0 100 - 200–400

Crosslinkers for water-dilutable coatings

Basonat® HW 1000 1

Hydrophilic

16.5–17.5 100 - 2,000–6,000Standard hydrophilic polyisocyanate for the general use in water-based 2K PU coatings; good pot life / reactivity balance, low sensitivity to water in the cured coating, improves adhesion on difficult substrates due to flexibility

Basonat® HW 1180 PC 1 13.0–14.0 79–81 Propylene carbonate (Solvenon® PC) 450–850 Basonat® HW 1000 in an 80% solution of propylene carbonate for better incorporation in water-based 2K PU systems; performance is directly comparable to Basonat® HW 1000

Basonat® HW 2000 1 17.5–18.5 100 - 1,500–3,000Easier to incorporate version of Basonat® HW 1000; modern emulsification chemistry leads to faster hardener distribution in water-based coatings, providing better gloss levels and better mechanical properties; high chemical reactivity with low impact on pot life

Basonat® HW 2100** 1 16.9–17.9 100 - 2,000–3,600General-purpose hydrophilic polyisocyanate for use in water-based high performance 2K PU coatings with low VOC; balanced property profile regarding resistance, reactivity, and compatibility with primary and secondary dispersions

Basonat® HW 3180 B 1 11.5–12.5 79–81 n-Butylacetate 500–1,500A special polyisocyanate for fast-drying 2K PU water-based coatings; the touch to dry time in primary and secondary dispersions is significantly decreased compared to conventional hydrophilic polyisocyanates; in primary dispersion pot life is significantly longer without reduced chemical-resistance development

Basonat® HI 2000 1 HDI isocyanurate 22.5–23.5 100 - 900–1,500

For use in secondary dispersions, these low-viscous polyisocyanates are recommended for fast distribution in the coatings system while mixing; all our low-viscous polyisocyanate products are miscible in most available secondary dispersions, when combined with Basonat® HW types, faster incorporation, better appearance and improved mechanical properties can be achieved
