Tech TipCummins introduces ISV5.0 diesel engineCummins Inc. recently announced the ISV5.0, a new 5-liter V8 diesel engine for motorhomes, school

buses, and light- and medium-duty trucks. “Cummins ISV5.0 creates new opportunities for OEM customers as a compact and lightweight engine that delivers best-in-class fuel efficiency and total cost of ownership,” said Dave Crompton, Cummins vice president and general manager - Engine Business. The ISV5.0 is designed to easily fit where a comparable V8 or V10 gasoline engine was previous-

ly installed. Multiple front-end accessory drive options handle the common automotive accessories required by a wide spectrum of applications, including the alternator, air compressor, A/C compres-sor and hydraulic pump. These available options, coupled with Cummins integration expertise, are intended to minimize OEM engineering time and vehicle retooling costs.According to a press release issued by Cummins, the ISV5.0 brings together a compacted graphite

iron cylinder block, forged steel crankshaft, high-strength aluminum alloy heads, and composite valve covers to offer maximum durability in a lightweight package. High injection pressures from the latest Bosch High Pressure Common Rail (HPCR) fuel system and

piezo fuel injectors provide precise fuel control for optimized in-cylinder combustion, leading to better fuel efficiency and reduced emissions, the press release states. With multiple injection events driven by integrated electronic controls, the HPCR fuel system, along

with Cummins VGT Variable Geometry Turbocharger, contributes to a peak torque of 560 pound-feet and a quick throttle response. Ratings from 200 to 275 horsepower are available. In cold weather, the advanced ceramic glow plug system significantly reduces start time and electrical

current draw, reducing vehicle charging system requirements. The ceramic glow plugs are designed to last the life of the engine, with no maintenance. A two-stage fuel filter system for the ISV5.0 features the latest NanoNet media from Cummins Filtration, to ensure that the HPCR fuel system is protected against fuel contamination. NanoNet’s unique construction provides lower fuel-flow restriction, and traps greater than 99 percent of all particles as small as 4 microns. The Cummins ISV5.0 also features a high-efficiency coalescing filter, designed to eliminate crankcase

hydrocarbon emissions and oil mist. “Cummins has integrated the latest technologies in the ISV5.0 to deliver performance, fuel efficiency and durability in a highly sociable package. Every day, drivers will appreciate the smooth, quiet operation of the ISV5.0,” said Jim Katzenmeyer, executive engineer - V8 Program. “In addition, the fuel savings offered by the ISV5.0 result in fewer greenhouse gas emissions - a great environmental benefit.”The Cummins ISV5.0 is available in the United States and Canada. According to Cummins, it will be

certified to the near-zero NOx and PM emissions levels required by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency. At launch, it will also meet greenhouse gas requirements through 2016, & 2015 Air Resources Board standards, including on-board diagnostics. The ISV5.0 will be manufactured at Cummins’ Columbus, IN., engine plant. Production of the ISV5.0

will start during the fourth quarter of 2014. “Our customers want the ISV5.0 engine to come with the world-class service network and customer support that Cummins already provides to them,” said Jeff Jones, Cummins vice president - North American Engine Business. “The support of this engine will easily be integrated into Cummins distributors and authorized dealer shops, and into customer operations with fleets that are running the broad range of dependable Cummins power.”

entertainment, a variety of waterfront dining options and a cozy inside shopping mall. There are nine restaurants at The Landing, all providing a great view of the gorgeous St. Johns River. The venue also has nightclubs that offer a variety of late-night entertainment. The Landing has been voted “Jackson-ville’s Most Beloved Landmark.”

Amelia Island, is one of the southernmost of the Sea Islands, a chain of barrier islands stretching along the east coast of the United States from South Carolina to Florida. Amelia Island is an easy 30-min-ute drive from Jacksonville. With thirteen miles of pristine white sand, come comb the beach for shark’s teeth and shell. Amelia is also one of the only places in the nation visitors can ride horseback on the beach.

The Jacksonville Riverwalks are located on the north and south banks of the St. Johns River in Downtown Jacksonville. The first section of the Riverwalk opened on the Downtown Southbank on November 8, 1985. On a sunny day, the view from the walk includes shimmering water, shiny build-ings, sailboats & speedboats. Today, the riverwalks are among the most popular and well-used attrac-tions in the downtown area.Fort Clinch is a part of the Florida State Park System, and one of the most well-preserved 19th

century forts in the country. Although no battles were fought here, it was garrisoned during both the Civil and Spanish-American wars. During the 1930s, the Civilian Conservation Corps began preserv-ing and rebuilding many of the structures of the abandoned fort. Daily tours with period reenactors depicting garrison life bring the fort to life for visitors.St. Augustine (Spanish: San Agustín) is the oldest continuously occupied European-established

settlement and port in the continental United States. St. Augustine’s rich heritage makes the city and its surroundings a unique getaway for visitors. Founded in September 1565 by Don Pedro Menendez de Aviles of Spain, St. Augustine is the longest continually inhabited European-founded city in the United States – more commonly called the “Nation’s Oldest City.” Visit St. Augustine and dive into more than four centuries of history that owes much to the Spanish and English, to Greeks and Na-tive Americans and African Americans. Stroll the narrow lanes, enter the many museums, visit land-marks such as Castillo de San Marcos, Ponce de Leon’s “Fountain of Youth,” and the Oldest Wooden Schoolhouse. FROM YOuR PReSIdenTby Bill Brock

Isn’t it unbelievable how quickly time goes by. When we were younger and in school studying for a test, it seemed like the day would never come. Now, there does not seem to be enough hours in a day to get finished with what was anticipated for the day. Perhaps it is that I am moving slower but don’t want to admit it.The Northeast colors have begun to change in New Jersey. Orange, red and yellow leaves are hanging on the trees just waiting to fall and bring on the first frost. It is simply amazing how nature works. Truly magnifi-cent! We begin to think about winter and our trek south to Florida.October 10, 2013, a special day at the Vander Plaat Funeral Home in Wyckoff, NJ. My son and I had the astute honor of directing the funeral for a recipient of the Congressional Medal of Honor. Prior to his death, Master Sergeant Nicholas Oresko was the oldest surviv-ing recipient of the medal, the nation’s highest award for valor. He was 96 years of age. It was in the final stages of the Battle of the Bulge when Sgt. Oresko and his platoon were ordered to take the hill outside the German town of Tettingen. Oresko’s platoon faltered, he was hit by German fire. Single handedly he moved forward to wipe out two machine-gun positions, killing 12 enemy soldiers. In October of 1945, Sgt. Nicholas Oresko was awarded the Congressional Medal of Honor by President Harry S. Truman. In his last years he faced the death of his wife and son. With no living relatives but a few close friends he lived his final years quietly. His homegoing service was attended by many dignitar-ies and servicemen who came to honor a war hero. It

was a heartwarming experience to watch the pomp and circumstance given to a humble man who fought for his country without question and did his best for his fellow-man not expecting anything in return. In November, CCI will host a rally in Branson, MO. While there we will celebrate Veterans Day, November 11. The city of Branson will honor all our veterans with shows, music and a parade that will depict the compe-tence, character and commitment due our veterans. I hope to see you all there.God Bless AmericaBill

Regional Clubs news from the CC nor’easter’sby Skip Saunders

From 10-17 September 2013, the Country Coach Nor’Easters conducted their Fall rally at the Narrows Too RV resort in Bar Harbor, ME.With 41 coaches, this rally was one of the largest held by the Nor’Easters. Our 10th year as a club celebration, extended stay opportunities, and the wonderful location proved to be a strong draw. The weather mostly cooperated so outdoor events were all successful. Early arrivers were rewarded with sunny clear days suitable for touring Acadia Park, and more than one group headed out for self-guided excursions. Our next morning began with a spectacular breakfast prepared by our informal “breakfast club chefs” lead by Bill Herring. Custom omlets, with bacon, fruit, pastry, coffee, juice, etc. really starts the day off with a bang.

The remainder of the day was touring on your own. Some folk visited Acadia National Park, others took drives around the island, climbed Cadillac Mountain, shopped in Bar Harbor, or visited other quaint villages and lighthouses around the island.Thursday began with a light breakfast. Following breakfast we had a business meeting and tech talk. In the late afternoon we had our “formal” Lobstah

Dinnah. Even though many had explored different lobster venues in previous evenings, there was an enthusiastic crowd at our Lobster Bake.

Following the bake we visited Improv Acadia for an evening show of ribald, and otherwise, comedy. Unfortunately the theater had limited seating. A first sign-up, first served list based on postmarks established the privileged attendees. The next day (Friday) was the one day where we had overcast weather. Things weren’t looking too good since that was the day scheduled for a boat outing around Frenchman’s Bay. Oddly enough, the foggy weather turned out to be

pretty spectacular. While our tour guide on the boat regaled us with stories of old Bar Harbor. We learned that there is a chemical within lobsters that affect the brain causing a loss of ability to pronounce the letter “r”…hence the local accent produces “We had lobsta, in Bah, Hahbah when we visited (continued on next page)

theyah.” Luckily, for us, he told us that the chemical wears off. As soon as we return to our homes and our normal diet, we will regain proper pronunciation. He had lots of other tidbits of information which entertained those interested in the wildlife, social history, and geology of the area. The camera buffs were rewarded with views of the boats, harbor, and wildlife each made even more interesting via the “atmospherics” (i.e. fog). All in all a great outing.Due to the weather, we postponed our planned mini-golf competition until the following day. Folk found their way to various restaurants around town for the evening meal. Saturday began with yet another spectacular breakfast (bacon, sausage, French toast, etc.). In the afternoon, we visited a fancy pirate-themed mini-golf course where several members achieved hole-in one shots.Country Coach Nor’Easter’s apparently have quite a few members with golfing skills. Although the “Fore-play” team probably had the cleverest name, they were not the champions. That honor went to the “McThursties” (McClellan and Thurston) team.Saturday night dinner was our now famous “cook your own steak/chicken.” A large supply of steaks and a few chicken breasts were handed out to members who proceeded to the grill area where multiple gas grlls provided the heat. Pam and Mike Sowers, who unfortunately were unable to attend the rally, sent their regards via an unexpected donation of desert sweets. Thank you Mike and Pam! Hopefully we will see you in Florida. Comradery continued late into the evening.Sunday morning arrived all too soon. Following a light BYOC (bring your own coffee) breakfast, engines were started, toads connected, and departures were underway. Yet another rally is now in the history books.

Regional Clubs news from the Southeast Country Coachersdid You Miss Another Great Rally??Our rally in Savannah was a great success. We had 44 attendees representing 20 coaches, one guest coach and President Roy Stiglich and Barb who stayed nearby. Many members arrived days ahead of schedule and we were able to fit in a special VIP tour of the Savannah Port Author-ity. VP Charles McGairty , who works in the industry, pulled some strings to allow for this great opportunity. The port is the 4th largest in the country, the largest on the East coast, and the 10th largest in the world. The logistics are unbelievable, with containers stacked 7 high in unending rows, railroad cars being unloaded and 8,000 trucks a day dropping off their loads. As usual with our rallies, there was plenty of time for members to explore on their own. The Red Gate RV Park worked very well for our rally. This family-owned park, situated on their old plantation, is fairly new and still small as they add sites every year. They are convenient to downtown and have good facilities for meetings. While most of us were in an open field, a few were parked under 250-year old oaks dripping with Spanish moss. Below is McCoin’s coach beneath the oaks.

The final evening we all dined at the Pirates House. The Pirates House incorporates the old-est house in Savannah, dating to pre-colonial times. It even has a tunnel for the pirates ( ?! ) to get to the river, now closed off from the river, but the stairs and brick cellar are still visible. A lovely young lady in pirate costume was po-sitioned at the top of the stairs to answer any questions. After dinner we enjoyed a Ghost Tour of the city in open air trolleys. The rally seemed to end way too soon, even though we came early!Look for information on our web site for our next rally in March, Jacksonville, FL.See you there.Janet Sanders, E-News EditorSoutheast Country Coachers205-914-6149

RVs Featured On JeopardyAs part of the RV centennial celebration, the

December 7 episode of Jeopardy! shined the spotlight on the history of RV travel and camping as host Alex Trebek quizzed contestants about the 100 years of RVing.

RV Shipments expected to be up 8.2 percent in 2011

“First to tank in a tough economy, and first to rebound,” say economists, but according to a CNBC report from the Annual Manufacturer’s Trade Show, RVs are coming on strong these days. “Our largest demographic is the Baby Boomer, age 50 and above, and so that demographic hasn’t stopped through the recession,” Richard Coons, president and CEO of the RVIA, told CNBC Tuesday, November 30. RV shipments for 2011 are expected to be up 8.2 percent from this year, and currently, about 8.3 million households now own an RV, according to the RVIA industry. Source: RVIA.org

Your Boardby Jane Jordan

Soon, CCI will begin to celebrate its 30th year as an FMCA International Chapter! CCI began with 28 coach families in November, 1984 and now has the honor of being the fourth largest FMCA Chapter in the country. We salute our loyal members!

CCI has assigned nearly 8,000 member numbers to owner families throughout the years. (During the years of production, own-ers of each new coach were assigned a CCI number). We currently have members in 52 states, Canada, Mexico, the Virgin Islands and even Germany! CCI has been headquartered in Junction City, Oregon for all these years and has been served by 16 member Presidents.

Through the years these magnificent coaches have been owned by people from all walks of life. From celebrities (Michelle Pfeiffer, Er-nest Borgnine, John Laroquette, to name a few), politicians (Sarah Palin), to sports teams (Andretti Racing), business owners, profes-sionals, industry leaders, inventors, chemists, educators and on and on. All have unique sto-ries that led them to choose the World’s Finest Motorcoaches – and they all have a common thread: the love of travel and the freedom to do so in private luxury. Besides yourself, do you know of other “famous folks” who have owned a Country Coach? Let us know, so we can honor them in future news.

BReAKInG neWS: CCI is evolving. As reported earlier, CCI is moving to an ALL VOLUNTEER staff. We need members’ help to secure the future of CCI. A transition from the current format to a FULLY VOLUNTEER STAFF with a semi-automated membership management program (Wild Apricot) is im-minent. This means volunteers must replace my paid position. (Wow! Did I just say that out loud and ask to be replaced? Yup ~ all for the

good of the club!) Please ask for a description of duties and how you can help. The time is NOW.

CCI members enjoy Benefits such as Discounts and Special Offers from Business Partners across the country. The club website at www.countrycoachclub.com; the Industry Links for service and parts centers listed by state; the popular e-newsletters: “On the Road Again” and the Yahoo forum all work together to provide important resources to better assist our fellow Coach Owners. To continue to offer these important benefits to members, these products need to be managed – by volunteers. We can and will do it!

Registration is now open for the “Blast from the Past” Rally, March 9-14, 2014 at Flamingo Lake RV Resort in Jacksonville, FL. This rally is co-hosted by the South East Country Coachers! Print and mail the registration form included in this newsletter. And save the dates for the “Northwest Adventure” Rally in Canyonville, Oregon, August 30-10, 2014.

We welcome CCI members who now own “another brand” of coach to remain members of CCI. All members now enjoy the low, reduced annual dues of only $50 and new members can join for only $75. ($25 covers the price of CCI logo name badges.)

Help celebrate CCI’s 30th anniversary in 2014 by inviting other CC owners to join the ORIGINAL Country Coach Owners Club for fantastic fun and fellowship. We want YOU...to have fun with CCI!
