Gather children for a Large Group time that includes interactive worship and the Bible story. Some kids (especially the younger ones) may wander. That’s OK. They’re still listening and learning!

WORSHIPA Worship Leader and live instruments are recommended to sing along with the music tracks. Encourage children to be active during worship by incorporating the appropriate hand motions.

W H AT Y O U N E E D : Paperclip “Memory Verse Card” in your Bible at Hebrews 12:2. You will need a CD player and worship songs “Jesus Loves Me Mix,” “I Spy,” and “Love God and Everybody Else,” which are included in your preschool files. Also included in your files are dance moves videos of these songs.

W O R S H I P L E A D E R : “Hello, friends! It’s so great to see you today. I am SO EXCITED about this week! We are going to FOCUS and keep looking to Jesus! All week long we’re going to be learning about our amazing friend, Jesus, who wants to be our friend forever. That’s right, [Bottom Line] Jesus wants to be my friend forever! When I ask you this very important question, ‘Who wants to be your friend forever?’ you say, [Bottom Line] ‘Jesus wants to be my friend forever.’ Let’s try it. Who wants to be your friend forever?”

W O R S H I P L E A D E R A N D C H I L D R E N : [Bottom Line] “Jesus wants to be my friend forever.”

W O R S H I P L E A D E R : “Way to go! Now I have a couple of songs to teach you. Here we go!

(Lead children in singing “Jesus Loves Me Mix” and “Eye Spy.”)

“You are such amazing singers! We are going to have an awesome time this week singing together. Tell me: Who wants to be your friend forever?”

W O R S H I P L E A D E R A N D C H I L D R E N : [Bottom Line] “Jesus wants to be my friend forever.”

W O R S H I P L E A D E R : “That’s right! [Bottom Line] Jesus wants to be my friend forever, and we can keep looking to Him. Our memory verse tells us just that. Right here in the Bible it says: Let us (thumbs to chest) keep looking (hands to eyes like binoculars and look around) to Jesus (both hands pointing up), Hebrews 12:2 (NIrV). (Open hands like a book.) Let’s try that together.”

W O R S H I P L E A D E R A N D C H I L D R E N : “Let us (thumbs to chest) keep looking (hands to eyes like binoculars and look around) to Jesus (both hands pointing up), Hebrews 12:2.” (Open hands like a book.) (Repeat several times.)

STORYChoose an adult or teenager who relates well to preschoolers to tell the Introductory Sketch. If possible, use the same person for an entire month, as the Host role stays the same each month.

Choose an engaging adult to tell the Bible story. This person should be able to command the attention of preschoolers and control the group through animated storytelling. These scripts are written to be “told” and not “read.” Advanced preparation is necessary.

Large Group videos are available for you to use instead of presenting the story live.

INTRODUCTORY SKETCHW H AT Y O U N E E D : Binoculars and a basket with the following items in it: plush chicken, owl, and duck

(Host enters carrying the binoculars and the basket with the three plush birds in it.)

H O S T: “Hi, friends! I’m [Host’s name], and I am so happy to see you today! I brought something cool I want to show you.

(Hold up binoculars.)

“Ta-da! These are my super seeing new binoculars. I got them so I can go bird watching. Bird watching is when you look and see how many different kinds of birds you can find. And these binoculars help me get a closer look at the birds.

“I went bird watching yesterday with my new binoculars and saw three different kinds of birds. I saw a . . . WAIT!

“Instead of me telling you what I saw, let’s play a game and you can guess what I saw!

“Okay, put your hands like this . . .

(Demonstrate making circles with your hands, holding them up to your eyes, and looking through them like binoculars.)

“. . . and pretend they are binoculars.

(Pause and look around at the children.)

“Fantastic! Now, when you see a bird through your pretend binoculars, yell out what kind of bird it is. Binoculars ready! And look!

(Slowly hold up a plush chicken and wait for the children to respond.)

“What’s that? You see a chicken? Yes, you do see a chicken! This bird is a chicken. What does a chicken say? (Pause.) Yes! Chickens say cluck-cluck.

“Okay, let’s look for another bird. Binoculars ready! And look!

(Slowly hold up an owl and wait for the children to respond.)

“What’s that? You see an owl? Well, look at that. You do see an owl! This bird is an owl. What does an owl say? (Pause.) You’re right! An owl says hoo-hoo. You are very good at this game.

“Let’s look for one more bird. Binoculars ready! And look!

(Slowly hold up a duck and wait for the children to respond.)

“You see a duck? Where’s a duck?”

(Look side to side and then finally see the duck.)

H O S T: “Oh! I see a duck, too! This bird is a duck. What does a duck say? (Pause.) Yes, ducks say quack-quack.

“Thanks for playing that game with me. Using binoculars to see all the things God made is super fun! I’m going to go look for more birds while you hear today’s Bible story. I’ll be back later. Bye!”

(Host exits with binoculars and the basket of plush birds while waving to the children.)

BIBLE STORYW H AT Y O U N E E D : “Pictures” Activity Pages, Bible, “Mystery Box” (see below), easel, and cardstock

We suggest making “Pictures” poster size, but you can make them whatever size best fits your environment. Put a world picture on the back of each of the elephant, flowers, baby, and Jesus pictures.

The Mystery Box will be used all week. It needs to be large enough for the story props to fit inside of it each day.

Suggestions for Mystery Box: a large cardboard box, a large gift box with a lid, or a large opaque storage tub. Choose what works best for you.

(Storyteller enters carrying a Bible and the Mystery Box. The pictures will be inside the Mystery Box. The easel should be waiting in the storytelling area.)

S T O R Y T E L L E R : “Hello, friends! Welcome to ‘Look and See,’ the place where we . . .

(Hold hand flat over eyes like you’re looking for something.)“. . . LOOK and SEE what’s in the Bible!

(Hold up the Bible.)

“Annnnd I have this special Mystery Box that has clues inside of it about what we can learn from the Bible. Do you want to look inside the box for clues about what we can learn from the Bible today? (Pause for response.)

“Great! On the count of three, yell, ‘TAKE A LOOK!’ Ready? One, two, THREE!”

C H I L D R E N A N D S T O R Y T E L L E R : “TAKE A LOOK!”

(Open the box and pull out the first three cards. Leave the Jesus card in the box.)

S T O R Y T E L L E R : “Ooo, I know what these are!

(Set up the picture cards on the easel with the world side of the cards facing the children.)

“It’s a game! I love games! What picture do you see on the back of these cards? (Pause.) Yes, it’s a picture of the world. The Bible teaches us that God made the whole world and everything in it. So this game is about things God made.

“Okay, this is how we play. There are pictures of things God made on the other side of each of these cards. I’ll give you clues about what each picture is, and you guess what God made. Are you ready? Here we go!

(Look at the elephant card, with the world picture facing the children.)

“It’s big and gray. And it stomps like this.

(Stomp your feet like an elephant.)

“And it has a loooooong nose that makes a sound like this!

(Make an elephant sound.)

“What do you think it is? (Pause.) Let’s look and see!

(Turn the card around so the children can see the elephant picture.)

“You’re right! It’s an elephant! God made elephants.

(Lay that card down and grab the flower card, with the world picture facing the children.)

“Ooooo, these are so pretty! You can see these growing outside. They come in LOTS and LOTS of colors! You can pick them . . .

(Pretend to pick flowers.)

“. . . and smell them . . .(Pretend to smell a bouquet of flowers.)

“. . . and give them to people to make them smile!

(Pretend to give a bouquet of flowers to someone.)

“Do you know what they are? (Pause.) Let’s look and see!

(Turn the card around so the children can see the flowers.)

“You’re right! It’s flowers! God made LOTS and LOTS of different flowers. Red roses and white lilies and yellow sunflowers and the list goes on and on and on!

“Okay, one more card.

(Lay that card down and grab the baby card, with the world picture facing the children.)

“Think of something cute and small and cuddly. It has 10 fingers . . .

(Wiggle your fingers.)

“. . . and 10 toes . . .

(Point to your toes.)

(Storyteller wiggles their fingers.)

“. . . and makes cute little sounds like goo-goo, ga-ga. Do you know what it is? (Pause.) Let’s look and see!

(Turn the card around so the children can see the baby.)

“It’s a baby! God made babies and grownups, too. God made everyone!

“All of these pictures are clues about our Bible story today. Let’s look in the Bible and see!

(Lay down the card and open the Bible.)

“We can’t see God, but we know God is real because we can see everything He made.

“We can’t see God, but we can learn about who God is when we take a closer look at everything He made.

“We know God is powerful because He made powerful things like elephants and oceans and waterfalls.

“We know God is super creative because He made creative things like flowers and sunsets and rainbows.

“We know God loves us because He made people in His image and we are the most special thing out of everything He made.

“In fact, God loves us so much that He made the whole world and everything in it for us to enjoy.

(Notice something inside the Mystery Box.)

“Wait a minute. I think there’s something else in the Mystery Box.

(Pull out the Jesus card, with the world picture facing the children.)

“There’s one more picture! And it’s the most special thing God gave us!

“Okay, this person is God’s Son. God loves us so, so, SO much, He gave this person to us to be our friend forever. He teaches us what is best, and He is always with us. Do you know who it is? (Pause.) Let’s look and see!

(Turn the card around so the children can see the Jesus picture.)

“Yes! It’s Jesus! God gave us Jesus to be our friend forever! Wow! So when I ask you, ‘Who wants to be your friend forever,’ I want you to say, [Bottom Line] ‘Jesus wants to be my friend forever.’ Got it? Who wants to be your friend forever?”

C H I L D R E N A N D S T O R Y T E L L E R : [Bottom Line] “Jesus wants to be my friend forever!”

S T O R Y T E L L E R : “Again! Who wants to be your friend forever?”

C H I L D R E N A N D S T O R Y T E L L E R : [Bottom Line] “Jesus wants to be my friend forever!”

S T O R Y T E L L E R : “You got it! Let’s pray.”

PRAYERS T O R Y T E L L E R : “Dear God, we know You are real because we can see all of the wonderful things You made. Everywhere we look we see things You made because You made the whole world and everything in it! We know You love us, too, because You gave us Jesus to be our friend forever. Help us look closely at all You made and remember who You are and how much You love us. In Jesus’ name, amen.”

(Storyteller exits with the Bible and Mystery Box as Host enters carrying the binoculars.)

OUTRO SKETCHW H AT Y O U N E E D : Binoculars from the Intro Sketch

H O S T: “WOW! We know God is real because we can LOOK and SEE all the things He made! And we know God loves us because He gave us Jesus to be our friend forever.

“I love that! I can’t wait to take another look in the Bible and see what we can find next!

(Look at the binoculars and then back at the children.)

“I’m going to use my binoculars to look at ALL of the amazing things God made.

(Exit while naming all the things God made.)

“I can look at trees and flowers and squirrels and pine cones and bugs and clouds . . .”
