One-Day Meditation Retreat September 28, 2014 8:50 am to 5 pm What could be better than a day of nurturing in an oasis of calm? This retreat will be led by long-time Zen practitioner and psychotherapist Nikyu Robert Strickland, authorized as a Dharma Teacher by Zen Center Abbot Shinge Sherry Chayat Roshi. You are welcome to join in the Zen Center’s regular morning schedule of chanting, sitting, and walking meditation from 9 to 11:30 a.m. (if you are new, come at 8:30 for instruction, entering at the front of the main building, the Joshua Forman House). Wear loose, comfortable clothing without distracting colors or logos. There will be a break for lunch on your own; you may bring a vegetarian bag lunch and eat outdoors, or go to one of the area restaurants. There is an optional yoga class at 1 p.m. You may also choose to attend only the afternoon period, from 2 to 5 p.m., which will include meditation instruction, silent sitting and walking meditation, optional private meetings to discuss your meditation practice, and a Dharma talk. If you plan to attend only for the afternoon and you are new to the Zen Center, please arrive by 1:40, entering as above at the front of the Joshua Forman House to check in. Those who have practiced with us before may go directly to the Carriage House Zendo. The fee for the afternoon is $40; the morning is free.
