The User Awareness Programme on Access to E-Resources under the UGC INFONET
Digital Library Consortium was jointly organized by the INFLIBNET Centre,
Ahmedabad and Knowledge Resource Centre, GITAM University was held on
Saturday 8th December 2012 at GITAM University, Visakhapatnam.
The awareness programme started at 9:30 AM with registration of the 38
participants. The session started at 10:00 AM. The publishers attended for the
programme are IOP (Institute of Physics), RSC (Royal Society of Chemistry),
Cambridge University Press, Wiley India, Informatics, Taylor and Francis. The
sessions ended at 3:30 PM
The programme started at 3:30 PM with prayer followed by lighting of
lamp by Dr. Jagdish Arora, Director, INFLIBNET Centre, Ahmedabad;
Prof. G. Subrahmanyam, Vice-Chancellor of GITAM University; Prof.
D. Harinarayana, Pro Vice-Chancellor; Prof. M. Potha Raju, Registrar; Dr. G. Naga
Ratna Mani, University Librarian, organizing secretary for the programme
In the welcome address she briefly presented about INFLIBNET, UGC INFONET
resources and e-resources access through UGC Infonet by the GITAM University. She
stressed need to provide more e-resources to the GITAM University. She also
mentioned the purpose and objectives of the User awareness programme.
In his speech Prof. G. Subrahmanyam, Vice-Chancellor of GITAM University
appreciated the efforts of the INFLIBNET centre, Ahmedabad and importance of the
user awareness programme. He stressed need to provide access to Science Direct
for the GITAM University. The Vice-Chancellor, Pro Vice-Chancellor, Registrar and
University Librarian participated in the felicitation function of the Dr. Jagdish Arora.
In his presentation Dr. Jagdish Arora explained current status and new programmes
taken by the UGC INFONET for the universities. He voluntarily accepted to give
password to the user community for the Shibboleth programme and advised to sign
on MOU for the Shodhganga programme. The benefits are 1. Anti plagiarism
software 2. Electronic Thesis and Dissertation 3. Digitization of the old thesis. For
the access of Science Direct and more number of e-resources he assured to provide
from the next plan period.
Smt. P. Sita Devi, Asst. Librarian of Knowledge Resource Centre proposed vote of
thanks.
The feedback of the participants in the programme is very informative, useful and
suggested to organize more programmes in future.
