1. AMAZING!W H AT Y O U N E E D : “Amazing Things Happen” Activity Page; “AMAZING!” images (Activity Pages) and a way to show them; prepared leaves (or provide “Leaf Template” Activity Pages and tape)

W H AT Y O U D O :• Tell kids that you’re going to FOCUS on one amazing animal God made:

the butterfly!• Set out the leaves (one for each kid), and guide kids to curl up on top

of them. ú If the leaves have not yet been taped together, show kids how to do that

and give them a couple minutes to put their leaves together. • Use the conversation on the “Amazing Things Happen” Activity Page

to lead kids to morph from eggs to caterpillars to chrysalises and finally to butterflies.

• As you narrate, be sure to share the images from “AMAZING!” as well.

W H AT Y O U S AY:“Isn’t God AMAZING? He made butterflies to lay eggs. Those eggs hatch into caterpillars. Those caterpillars eat and eat and eat and eat and eat until they form chrysalises. And chrysalises are the safe places where caterpillars can turn into butterflies! And did you know that monarch butterflies can travel more than 3,000 miles? Wow! God made butterflies, and He made EVERYTHING!

“We can’t see God, but EVERYTHING He made points to Him—from butterflies to sharks to trees to mountains to dogs to cats to horses to people and even to the sun, moon, and stars! So, when you wonder about who God is and what He’s like, FOCUS (make ‘binoculars’ with your hands and hold them to your eyes) on what you can see, because EVERYTHING God made points to the truth that He’s an amazing and powerful and kind and good and loving God! Say the Bottom Line and do the motion with me. FOCUS (binocular motion) on what you can see. Yes! Every time I say that, say it with me and make binoculars with your hands. So, remember: FOCUS (binocular motion) on what you can see, because when you FOCUS (binocular motion) on what you can see, you’ll see what God is like!”

2. CREATIONARYW H AT Y O U N E E D : “Thumbtionary Cards” (Activity Page), water-based inkpads, fine-tipped markers, paper, magnifying glasses, wet wipes, hard objects for kids to place their papers on (if needed)

W H AT Y O U D O :• Lead kids in a variation of Pictionary®.• Help kids get into groups of two or three.• Show kids how they can use their thumbprints or fingerprints—plus a

marker—to draw pictures. You might illustrate a flower, a snail, or a spider.• Give each group a set of “Thumbtionary Cards” (facedown), paper, an

inkpad, and markers.• NOTE: If kids don’t have a firm surface, hand out clipboards, small dry erase

boards, or hardback books. • Guide kids to take turns drawing a card from the “deck” (being sure their

partner can’t see) and using their thumb and/or fingertips and markers to create the item shown while their partner guesses.

• When each team finishes, invite them to use the magnifying glasses to examine and compare their fingerprints. You can even ask kids to describe their prints, such as: “One of mine kind of makes a U,” “One of mine is swirly,” or, “Mine curve round and round.”

• Emphasize that no two people have exactly the same fingerprints. Each person’s fingerprints are unique!

• Guide kids to wipe their fingers with the wet wipes.

W H AT Y O U S AY:“What were some of the things you drew? (a cat, a cloud, a sun, a tree, a dog, a fish, a bird, a flower, a caterpillar, an elephant) What do all those things have in common? (Pause.) Yes! They‘re all things made by God!

“The Bible tells us that EVERYTHING God made points to Him. So, when you FOCUS (binocular motion) on what you can see, you can see how amazing and wonderful God is!

“And you know what else? God called everything that He made good, but when He made His final creation—His masterpiece—He said it was VERY good. Do you know what God called very good? (Pause.) Yes! When God made people, He said His last creation was VERY GOOD.

3. KEEP LOOKINGW H AT Y O U N E E D : Bag of nature items, assortment of additional nature items, magnifying glasses, “Keep Looking” Activity Pages, prepared paint in spray bottles, prepared work area, wet wipes

W H AT Y O U D O :• Guide kids to gather around the prepared work area. • Invite kids to reach into the bag, feel an item, guess what it is (no peeking!),

pull it out, and pass it around (along with a magnifying glass) for the group to see.

• For each item, ask: ú How does it feel? (smooth, bumpy, fuzzy, rough) ú What do you see when you look at it with the magnifying glass? (little

lines going everywhere, lots of bumpy stuff, tiny holes, etc.)• Give each kid a “Keep Looking” Activity Page.• Set all the nature items and spray bottles where kids can reach them.• Invite kids to place several items on their papers and then spray over them

with the tinted water.• Guide kids to wipe their hands.• Give each kid a Bible. • Use the navigation tips below to help them “read” the verse.

Finding verses with kindergartners: Guide children to open the Bibles to the marked page. Point to the word Hebrews at the top of the page as you say “Hebrews” aloud. Then guide children to find the big number 12 on the page. Explain that this is the chapter number. Finally, guide them to look under the big 12 for the little 2; this is the verse number. Tell them to leave their finger on the verse as you read the verse aloud. Then lead everyone to say the verse together.

Finding verses with 1st graders: Guide them to open their Bibles to the front and find the table of contents. (Hold up a Bible opened to the table of contents to show the kids what the page looks like.) When the kids find the table of contents, lead them to find Hebrews in the list under “New Testament.” You can help by telling them that Hebrews starts with the letters H-E. When the kids find Hebrews, lead them to look at the page number beside the word. Explain that the number tells them on what page they can find Hebrews. Help the kids find the page. When they find Hebrews, explain that the big numbers on the page are the chapter numbers. Help them find chapter 12. Explain that the small numbers are verse numbers. Help them find verse 2 in chapter 12.

W H AT Y O U S AY:“Hebrews 12:2 says: Let us keep looking to Jesus (NIrV). If we can’t see Jesus, how can we keep looking to Him? (Some kids may be able to answer, ‘We can follow Him,’ ‘We can learn about him,’ or other ideas. Some kids, however, may struggle with the concept. That’s okay. Give them space to think about the question, and then continue.)

“When God tells us to ‘keep looking to Jesus,’ He means that He wants us to focus on learning from Jesus. We can learn from Jesus by taking a closer look at all of the amazing things He made. We can learn from Jesus by focusing on saying what Jesus would say and doing what Jesus would do.

(Tell kids how you like to learn what Jesus would say and do, whether by reading your Bible every day, memorizing Scripture, or hearing people talk about Him.) “What are some ways that you can learn what Jesus would say and do? (I can read my Bible, I can come to FOCUS, etc.) Great ideas! So, remember: ‘Keep looking to Jesus’!”

4. PRAYERW H AT Y O U N E E D : Focus Notebooks (with 3D glasses) OR index cards; markers

W H AT Y O U D O :• Give each child a Focus Notebook. Guide them to open it to page three.• Give each child a pair of 3D glasses, and “read” the page with them.• If you chose not to purchase the Focus Notebooks, hand out index cards. • Set out the markers, and invite kids to draw their favorite thing God made.• If time allows, invite kids to share their drawings.

W H AT Y O U S AY:“Today you learned that it’s important to FOCUS (binocular motion) on what you can see. So, what are some things God made that you can see? (flowers, trees, animals, people, the sun, stars, etc.) Yes! And you know what? The God who made the ENTIRE universe—the God who made (name things the kids named)—loves YOU! He loves [kid’s name] and [kid’s name] and (repeat with each child’s name). In fact, He loves you so much that you can’t even imagine how much He loves you! He loves you so much that He sent His Son, Jesus, just for you! Now THAT’s a lot of love!

“So, remember: FOCUS (binocular motion) on what you can see. Because when you FOCUS (binocular motion) on what you can see, you can see how amazing and wonderful and powerful and kind and good and loving God is! So, remember: FOCUS (binocular motion) on what you can see!”

(Pray, thanking God for His amazing creation and for His love. Be sure to mention each child by name.)

(Collect the Focus Notebooks before transitioning to the next track. Kids can keep index cards.)

Travel TimeAs you travel to the next track, use the following questions to keep the conversation going and to keep kids thinking about what they’re learning!• If you could have ANY animal for a pet, what would it be? Why?• If you could be an astronaut, where would you want to go? • Say: FOCUS (binocular motion) on what you can see!
