Grammar revision : Colours, Where’s …… ? What’s …… ? Who is …… ? Material needed : Copy of Meg and Mog stories on audio-cassette and flashcards to illustrate the new vocabulary and various emotions. STEP ONE Read the story, pausing at the end of each page to illustrate with flashcards, or mime any new vocabulary. STEP TWO Distribute activity sheet N° 1 Ask the children to colour in the pictures on the Activity Sheet as they listen to the story and hear the vocabulary to be learned. Show the children the illustrations from the book while the cassette is playing to reinforce the vocabulary. (If the audio-cassette is unavailable, read the story out aloud while the children colour in the illustrations). STEP THREE The teacher should draw the children’s attention to page 1 where Owl says, ‘‘I’m hungry’’. Using the flashcards illustrating emotions, show the children the ‘‘I’m hungry’’ card and mime the appropriate action. Then, mime eating a biscuit and smile. Keep the card prominently displayed for the children to see. Next, turn to page 5/6. Using the card illustrating ‘‘I’m surprised’’, point to Meg and mime ‘’surprise’’. Repeat this for the emotions on the following pages : • Page 7/8 ‘‘I’m sad’’ • Page 11/12 ‘‘I’m shocked’’ • Page 15/16 ‘‘I’m happy’’ • Page 17/18 ‘‘I’m tired’’ • Page 21/22 ‘‘I’m curious’’ • Page 23/24 ‘‘I’m frightened’’ Encourage the children’s participation as much as possible. STEP FOUR Ask the question ‘‘Are you + emotion vocabulary ?’’ and let the children answer ‘‘Yes I am’’ or ‘‘No I’m not’’ + emotion vocabulary . Show the appropriate flashcards each time. If you wish, you can add more vocabulary such as thirsty / hot / cold etc. STEP FIVE Activity sheet n°2. Ask the children to choose the correct sentence to describe each cartoon and write it under the picture. STEP SIX (optional) If this lesson plan is used at Easter, at the end of the lesson say to the class ‘‘I’m hungry !’’ and sit and eat a small chocolate easter egg. Before too long you should have the children very happily telling you that they’re hungry too. Distribute chocolate eggs as necessary : a guaranteed way to ensure the structure is remembered ! ! ! STEP ONE
